"I've said everything that should be said, and I haven't said anything that shouldn't have been said!"
Carter looked at Duro with a smile.
But what he said was as good as nothing. What should be said, and what shouldn't be said? What did Camito actually say?
"You know how Lord Saril is, so don't try to beat around the bush with me!"
Duro was uneasy about Cartel suddenly calling him out, feeling that things weren't so simple. However, seeing that Cartel didn't seem to be trying to escape, he felt much more at ease.
"Come inside and talk, this isn't the place to talk!"
Passersby on the street couldn't help but glance at Duro a few more times when they saw him in the workshop.
Duro noticed this as well, but instead of replying, he followed Carter into the inner room.
Camillo was still lying on the table, snoring loudly. The disc on the table vibrated rhythmically with his snoring, as if it were providing accompaniment to his snores.
"Look, there's nothing in my workshop that I can hide from the city lord. If you had said you wanted to come in and take a look earlier, there wouldn't have been so many misunderstandings!"
After hearing Carter's words, Duro glanced at the ore on the ground, his face gradually darkening.
"Duro, we're old friends, although we didn't get along well under the city lord, but I don't want you to misunderstand me!"
"My smelting furnace did run for a few days. A few travelers brought some ore from outside, and I earned a little money for my work. I dare not disobey the city lord's orders!"
Although Duro didn't quite believe Cartel's words, the sight before him left him speechless; there were only a small number of copper mines here.
He has been guarding the door these past few days, so Cartel couldn't have really moved that much ore away.
Could it all be a misunderstanding? Duro began to doubt his own judgment.
"Cartel, I'll be watching you. You'd better not have done anything to disobey the city lord!"
Duro stepped forward, picked up a piece of copper ore from the ground, and put it in his pocket.
"I accept your supervision!"
Carter spread his hands, looking extremely cooperative.
"Once your old friend wakes up, have him come find me. I still need to see the city lord!"
Duro had no other choice but to leave.
"Okay, I'll pass on your message!"
Although Duro was unwilling, he had no choice but to leave at this point.
He strode toward the city lord's mansion, thinking that since he was going to get scolded anyway, he might as well do it today.
At least, tomorrow will be another relaxing and enjoyable day.
