"Joey!"
The bearded man stared blankly at the now-closed Gate of Expulsion, his spirits plummeting to rock bottom.
He shouted Joey's name at the top of his lungs, but only an empty sky answered him.
All the orcs of Ashfury City have disappeared, sucked into the Expulsion Gate summoned by Catherine. It is unknown whether they were returned to their original world or taken to some other place.
"We've won!"
"Long live the League!"
"Long live the City Lord! Long live Lady Catherine!"
"..."
The people inside and outside the city, along with the warriors of the Alliance, were already celebrating the victory. They cheered loudly, but most of them did not know that Lady Catherine, whom they spoke of, had also disappeared from this world along with the orcs.
"Meld, what's wrong with you, you old bastard?"
Karp angrily shouted at Meld, who was still hovering in the air, his tone suggesting he was blaming him for Catherine's misfortune.
"Karp, he did his best!"
Maragon walked slowly to Garp's side, his steps appearing unusually heavy.
He patted Garp on the shoulder, looking very downcast.
"How am I supposed to explain this to the king?"
Karp was still angry and couldn't accept the current outcome.
"I'll go back to Baron with you then, and I'll explain to the king face to face!"
Meld had descended from the sky and looked guilty as he faced Garp and Malagon. It seemed he took the blame for Catherine being captured by the Lord of the Abyss right under his nose.
"This isn't your fault, you've already done your best!"
Although Maragon had lost his "daughter," he could only suppress his grief and comfort Meld, not wanting his old friend to bear this burden at this time.
"Never mind, let's talk about this later. So where did Catherine go?"
"Isn't the Gate of Expulsion only meant to expel people from another world?"
Karp calmed himself down and asked Meld seriously.
"The Soul Stone has already been given to Joey. He rushed towards Catherine at that time. If Catherine was really banished from this world, she's probably with Joey!"
Meld said this, but judging from his expression, he didn't seem very confident about the outcome. After all, this matter was beyond his comprehension, and he, a great magician, had no way of knowing these things.
"Did you go to Joey's world?"
"Then we can only hope that Joey can take good care of Catherine!"
Garp looked at the spot in the sky where the Gate of Expulsion had disappeared, and murmured to himself with hope.
...
"Ring ring..."
A series of urgent ringing sounds rang out.
"Um……"
A man was muttering to himself, seemingly still asleep.
He stretched a hand out from under the covers and groped around the pillow for the source of the ringing, trying to stop the disturbing sound.
After some groping, he realized that his outstretched hand wasn't touching an alarm clock, but a square object.
"cell phone?"
The man suddenly woke up, and the lingering sleepiness immediately ripped from his body.
He sat up in bed, clutching his phone, his face filled with disbelief.
"bite!"
"bite!"
"bite!"
"..."
Dozens of messages also began to bombard the system after the ringtone sounded.
The man swiped his phone with his thumb in confusion, and the phone unlocked instantly.
Northern Guangdong Working Group:
Mr. Zhang: @Everyone, please fill out this week's daily report and weekly report on time according to last night's meeting content. Failure to fill them out on time will be treated as absenteeism!
Li He: Received!
Zhang Shan: Received!
Cheng Mingguo: Received!
...
"Is this a dream?"
The man patted his head, still somewhat confused.
Ding-dong!
Another message.
Mr. Zhang: Wang Rui, are you still asleep?
It turned out that the man hadn't replied to the message in time, and the company manager was calling him out.
Wang Rui: Received!
The man immediately typed a reply to the message.
Ding-dong!
Zhang Shan: Rui, what's going on? You're replying to messages a little slowly today. What were you doing last night?
Wang Rui: I went to bed a little late!
Zhang Shan: Where have you been? You didn't invite me to play games with your friends?
Wang Rui: Hehe, okay, okay, I'll definitely invite you next time!
After casually brushing off Zhang Shan's few words, the morning finally became truly quiet.
However, the man, now calm, was still preoccupied with last night's dream. He didn't know whether he should be called Wang Rui or Joey Brown now, simply because the dream was so vivid that he couldn't let it go immediately.
After staring at his phone for a long time, and confirming that he was indeed in a rented room in the 21st century, Wang Rui gradually felt relieved.
He stretched lazily, got out of bed, put on the white shirt he had washed countless times, slipped on his suit trousers, fastened a faux crocodile belt he had bought online, and slowly walked into the bathroom.
He was about to brush his teeth when he suddenly noticed a very familiar ring on the finger holding the toothpaste in the mirror.
"The ring Vivian gave me?"
Wang Rui threw down the toothpaste tube and raised his hand, which was adorned with a ring, to examine it closely.
It was indeed the ring Vivian had given him in his dream, which shocked Wang Rui greatly. He was clearly in the 21st century, so how could something from his dream last night actually appear on his finger?
Could it be... could it be... that last night wasn't a dream?
