Chapter 116 Lin's Mother's Indifference

Lin's father rushed to Lin Qinghuan's side, looking at her who was completely soaked, and felt a mix of emotions.

Lin Qinghuan ignored her father and went to the back of the house. She saw that the water had spread to the base of the wall, and then looked up at the sky. The sky seemed to have been torn open with huge cracks, and the rain seemed to be pouring down from the sky. Worry appeared on her face.

If the rain continues, there may be flash floods. If the wind gets stronger, the villagers will be in even more dire straits, as most of their houses are thatched huts.

If only we lived in the 21st century, where almost every household would be a single-story house, and we wouldn't have to worry about even the biggest storms as long as there were no flash floods.

Suppressing her unease, Lin Qinghuan anxiously picked up a hoe and began draining the water.

Seeing Lin Qinghuan taking the lead in the work, Lin's father quickly looked at Lin Qing and the others, "What are you standing there for? Get to work!"

The three Lin brothers listened to their father's words and quickly picked up hoes to clear the sand and soil from the drainage ditch and dig it deeper.

Lin's mother came to Lin Piaoxue's room and woke her up.

Lin Piaoxue reluctantly opened her eyes, looking at her mother with displeasure, "Mom, why did you wake me up?"

Lin's mother said anxiously, "Piaoxue, get up quickly and help me cover the grain in the house with an oilcloth."

“My brother and the others are all men; they should be the ones doing these chores,” Lin Piaoxue said.

Lin's mother said worriedly, "Your brother and the others are all busy right now. They're worried that the water will overflow and seep into the base of the wall, causing the earthen wall to collapse, so they've all gone to the back of the house to drain the water."

Upon hearing this, Lin Piaoxue reluctantly got up to help with the chores.

Lin Qinghuan and her father braved the wind and rain to clean the drainage ditch behind the house. Watching the rainwater flow smoothly out of the ditch, their worries eased a little.

When Lin Qinghuan and the others returned to the house, they saw Lin's mother sitting in the main room with a worried expression. The lamplight shone on her, making her look exceptionally lonely and desolate.

Seeing that Lin Qing and the others were soaked to the bone, covered in mud, with mud splattered on their faces and heads, Lin's mother said with concern, "Hurry up and change your wet clothes and dry your hair, so you don't catch a cold, that would be troublesome."

Looking at the still-pouring rain, Lin Qinghuan said to her father, "Dad, you should go and inform the village chief so that everyone in the village can be careful, especially since there's a hillside behind the house."

Upon hearing Lin Qinghuan ask Lin's father to go out, Lin's mother, worried that he might have an accident on the way, immediately stopped him, saying, "You're not allowed to go. Just mind your own business."

Lin's father also looked at Lin Qinghuan with a troubled expression. It was raining heavily and dark, and he didn't want to go out.

Lin Qinghuan frowned. Although she didn't like the people in the village, they weren't particularly evil, and she didn't want to see anything happen to them.

Lin Qinghuan picked up the flashlight on the table. "I'll go tell them." Whether the villagers listened or not was their business, not her concern.

The Lin family looked at Lin Qinghuan as she went out in the pouring rain, wondering if she wasn't afraid of dying.

Moreover, the villagers have always been very unfriendly to Lin Qinghuan. Doesn't Lin Qinghuan feel resentful?

If it were them, they wouldn't care about anything, and if something happened, they might even feel secretly pleased.

Mr. Lin was worried about Lin Qinghuan and wanted to accompany her to find the village chief. However, Mr. Lin had only taken one step out of the main room when his hand was grabbed by his wife.

Mr. Lin tugged at her hand, but found that Mrs. Lin's grip was too tight and he couldn't break free. He turned to look at Mrs. Lin and said, "Why are you pulling me? I need to go with Qinghuan to the village chief's house to report the current situation."

Displeasure appeared on Lin's mother's face. She held Lin's father's hand tightly and objected, "You're not allowed to go. Lin Qinghuan is asking for death. She deserves to die."

Upon hearing Lin's mother's words, Lin's father looked at her with disbelief. "Qinghuan is your biological daughter. No matter how much you dislike her, you shouldn't say such hurtful things under these circumstances."

He knew that Lin's mother had a prejudice against Lin Qinghuan, but he didn't expect that Lin's mother's feelings for Lin Qinghuan had reached the point of disgust.

Lin's mother looked at Lin's father with a frank expression and said bluntly, "I have five children. One more or one less makes no difference. Besides, she doesn't like me. Why should I care about someone who doesn't like me?"

Lin Qinghuan looked at her with indifference, as if she were looking at an unimportant person. Why should she risk her husband of more than 20 years for a daughter who was indifferent to her?

Call her cold-blooded or heartless, she doesn't care. She and Lin Qinghuan are destined to never be mother and daughter in this lifetime.

Lin's father was provoked by Lin's mother's cold and ruthless attitude. "Qinghuan is your own daughter. If you can treat her like this, will you treat me and the eldest son the same way in the future?"

"Your cold-bloodedness terrifies me; you're practically an animal."

Lin's mother looked at Lin's father in shock, and let go of him. She had done that entirely for Lin's father's safety. How could Lin's father say that to her?

Thinking of this, Lin's mother was filled with anger and sadness. Her eyes were bloodshot as she roared, "It's pitch black outside, with thunder and lightning, and a torrential downpour. What if you fall and get hurt if you go out now? What if you get struck by lightning? What if the wind breaks a tree and hits you? Why did I do that? It was for your own good! How can you say that to me? How can you misunderstand me?"

Looking at Lin's mother's indignant expression, Lin's father hesitated, then finally let out a sigh.
