Nangong, who was taken home, was very curious about Yan Wuxie, who had just come of age but was living alone in such a big house.
Sitting on the wooden chair, Nangong looked around. Yan Wuxie walked up to her with a set of clothes in his hand.
"The hot water is ready. Go take a shower. I only have my clothes at home, so you can make do with them."
Nangong took the clothes and nodded.
"Thanks, but don't you dare peek at me while I'm showering, or I'll gouge your eyes out!"
Seeing Nangong's forced smile, Yan Wuxie quickly nodded, which satisfied Nangong as he went to the bathroom.
After taking a relaxing shower, Nangong came out of the bathroom but didn't see Yan Wuxie in the living room. She heard noises coming from the kitchen, dried her hair, and went over to find Yan Wuxie chopping vegetables.
"Go sit down, I'll call you when I'm done cooking," Yan Wuxie said to Nangong without looking up.
Nangong raised an eyebrow and looked at Yan Wuxie.
"I didn't expect my little brother Wuxie could cook."
Yan Wuxie retorted, "Cooking isn't something you can do just by having hands. You don't actually know how, do you?"
"Who, who can't cook? I'll definitely cook better than you. I'll cook for you tomorrow." Nangong quickly retorted, like a kitten whose tail had been stepped on.
She moved a wooden chair and sat at the kitchen doorway, watching Yan Wuxie busy inside.
"Little brother Wuxie, this house is so big, do you live alone?"
Where are your family members?
Yan Wuxie saw the water in the pot boil and threw the noodles in, while also pouring cooking oil into the pot next to it.
"I live here all by myself; I have no family."
The boy's calm words stunned the girl.
The two fell silent, with only the sound of Yan Wuxie stirring the food in the pan.
Soon, two large bowls of steaming hot noodles were served on the table.
Seeing Nangong eating with great relish, Yan Wuxie was somewhat speechless. How long had he been starving?
Nangong gave Yan Wuxie a thumbs-up with one hand, and with the other hand, she frantically devoured the noodles in her bowl with chopsticks, all the while praising Yan Wuxie as she ate.
"It's delicious, Wuxie's cooking is really delicious."
After finishing a bowl of noodle soup, Nangong still looked like he hadn't had enough. Yan Wuxie pushed his half-eaten bowl in front of Nangong.
"Is it still edible? I'll cook it again."
Nangong smiled sheepishly.
"I can have another bowl." At the same time, she finished the half bowl that Yan Wuxie had pushed to her.
A week had passed since she escaped her family, and Nangong had long since run out of money. She had been hungry for two days, so it was no wonder that she lacked the demeanor and poise expected of a daughter of a prominent family.
Fortunately, the soup base from before hadn't been thrown away, and not long after, Yan Wuxie brought out two more bowls of noodle soup.
Nangong scratched his head and said apologetically, "Thank you for your help."
"It's okay, it's nice to have someone to have dinner with."
Yan Wuxie picked up her chopsticks again and placed the boiled egg from her bowl into Nangong's bowl.
"Eat more, there's more if you're still hungry."
After dinner, Nangong felt really bad, so he took the initiative to wash the dishes. Yan Wuxie didn't stop him, but went to take a shower instead.
After he finished showering, he went to the living room, where Nangong was already asleep on a wooden chair.
Yan Wuxie threw the clothes into the wooden basin, walked over to Nangong, gently picked her up, placed the girl on his bed, covered her with a blanket, and then left the room without any hesitation.
A problem puzzled him: what to do with Nangong's clothes? Looking at the red bodice and white underpants in the wooden basin, Yan Wuxie, who was getting so close to a girl for the first time, blushed and didn't know what to do.
Wait a minute, the undergarment and underpants are here, doesn't that mean Yan Wuxie is about to burst into flames?
In the end, Yan Wuxie couldn't get over her mental block and only washed Nangong's outer clothes, leaving his underwear in the wooden basin.
The next day, the sun shone brightly.
Nangong woke up groggily. The comfortable and warm bed made her feel a little dazed for a moment. Just as she was about to close her eyes and sleep a little longer, she suddenly sat up. She touched her clothes and breathed a sigh of relief when she found that they were intact.
She quietly left the room and went to the living room, where she found Yan Wuxie fast asleep on a wooden chair. Nangong crouched down and poked Yan Wuxie's face with her finger.
"So boys' faces are soft and chubby too," Nangong murmured.
Unexpectedly, this murmur woke Yan Wuxie up. He opened his eyes and saw Nangong, whose hair was a little messy and who was charming and beautiful.
Nangong was startled and withdrew his hand, awkwardly greeting, "Good morning, Wuxie brother."
Yan Wuxie nodded and said good morning, then sat up and twisted his neck and waist with a pained expression.
Nangong noticed all these details.
Breakfast consisted of fried eggs and white porridge made by Yan Wuxie. Despite the simplicity, Nangong ate the meal with great relish.
Yan Wuxie looked at Nangong somewhat embarrassed and said, "Um, last night I only washed your outer clothes, I didn't wash the rest."
Realizing what had happened instantly, Nangong blushed, lowered her head, and whispered a thank you.
After finishing breakfast, Yan Wuxie changed his clothes in his room, slung his bag over his shoulder, and was about to leave when Nangong, who was washing clothes in the bathroom, noticed the commotion and quickly peeked out to look at Yan Wuxie.
After realizing that she wasn't alone at home, Yan Wuxie said to Nangong, "I'm going out to work. There are vegetables in the kitchen. If you're hungry, cook something for yourself. I won't be back until evening."
Nangong nodded blankly, watching Yan Wuxie leave.
The washed clothes were hung on the clothesline outside. Nangong looked at the fairly clean house and rolled up his sleeves.
Yan Wuxie lived in a large bungalow. Clothes were usually hung out to dry in the yard. Nangong carefully cleaned the house. By the time she finished, it was already noon. Her stomach started rumbling, so she touched her stomach and went into the kitchen.
Raw meat and vegetables were placed on the stove. Nangong stood still, even though she didn't know how to cook.
Previously, there was always a chef at home to cook, so it was already quite good that Nangong, who never lifted a finger to do housework, could do chores.
However, Nangong still tried to start a fire and cook for herself, because it was different from being at home, and she had to learn to survive on her own.
Looking at the barely passable food laid out in front of her, Nangong nodded in satisfaction. She laughed proudly and said, "This young lady is quite talented!"
After finishing a not-too-bad lunch, Nangong felt a bit bored. She went to Yan Wuxie's room, sat down at Yan Wuxie's desk, and listlessly picked up a book to read.
"I am bored--"
After reading for a while, Nangong lay on the table howling. She looked up and found an inconspicuous notebook at the very bottom of a pile of books.
She pulled it out and saw that it was Yan Wuxie's diary. Nangong smiled and put the notebook back. This was Yan Wuxie's privacy, and Nangong would not do such a rude thing.
Since they had kindly taken her in, Nangong couldn't do anything disrespectful to Yan Wuxie, so she picked up her book again and started reading.
