Chapter 316 Sister

It was late autumn evening, and the sky had already darkened.

Yan Wuxie returned to his residence with his bag on his back. His residence was near a stream on the outskirts of the capital. There were no neighbors around, only a lonely courtyard house sitting there.

He prefers peace and quiet and doesn't want anyone to disturb him; this was a request that Yan Wuxie made to his superiors.

He walked into the courtyard and found that the house was not lit. He pushed open the door and entered. The living room was empty. He threw his bag on the wooden chair and went into the room. Nangong was fast asleep on her bed. He walked to the bedside, gently turned the girl over and covered her with a quilt.

After leaving the room, Yan Wuxie noticed some leftover food from lunch on the table. He picked up a clean pair of chopsticks, took a piece of meat, and put it in his mouth to chew.

It was a bit salty, but not so salty that it was hard to swallow.

Yan Wuxie found it amusing; it turned out that his behavior last night was just a show of bravado.

It's okay to eat later. Yan Wuxie washed the rice, cooked the meal, and prepared meat and vegetables. He quickly made a dinner that was enough for the two of them.

Yan Wuxie took off his apron and went into his room. He stood by the bed and looked at Nangong Tianjing's pajamas. Unconsciously, Yan Wuxie, who rarely had contact with women, blushed a little.

The boy shook his head vigorously and gently nudged Nangong. Nangong slowly woke up and found Yan Wuxie's face as red as a monkey's bottom, and immediately burst out laughing.

Yan Wuxie suddenly threw off the blanket, looking somewhat agitated. He lifted Nangong up and carried her to the dining table to sit down.

"Have a meal."

Nangong was shocked by Yan Wuxie's power and weakly uttered an "oh". She picked up her chopsticks, looked at the delicious food on the table and swallowed her saliva. However, today she did not wolf down her food like last night. Instead, she ate slowly and gracefully.

Of course, this was all seen through Nangong's own lens; what Yan Wuxie saw was that she was so focused on picking up chopsticks that her image was blurred.

Eat slowly.

Realizing her lapse in decorum, Nangong immediately withdrew her chopsticks and smiled apologetically at Yan Wuxie. Noticing that Yan Wuxie had been eating the dishes she had cooked for lunch, Nangong asked with sparkling eyes, "How was it? Was my cooking delicious?"

Yan Wuxie showed no mercy, saying, "It doesn't taste good."

"But it's barely edible."

Nangong, however, proudly patted his rather well-off chest.

"This is my first time cooking, sister. It's good enough that it's edible. Not everyone gets to eat this, so you should be grateful!"

Yan Wuxie quickly ate a few mouthfuls of rice.

"Didn't you say last night that you could do it?"

Having been exposed, Nangong quickly changed the subject, laughing and saying, "These green beans are a bit old."

Yan Wuxie chuckled softly. So all girls are this cute?

Seeing that Yan Wuxie was still eating, Nangong quickly stopped him, saying, "If you don't like it, don't eat it. This was just made tonight."

Yan Wuxie shook his head.

"We can't waste it."

The boy and girl were like stubborn mules, one wanting to eat and the other not letting them, which eventually escalated into them fighting over the lunch.

Nangong, slumped in a wooden chair, patted his bulging belly.

"Your belly is so big, it's all your fault!"

Nangong's sudden reprimand startled Yan Wuxie, who was clearing the table, but the boy didn't think much of it, since Yan Wuxie didn't know much about these things.

The bowls and chopsticks were placed in an iron basin, and Yan Wuxie planned to rest for a while before washing them.

On the wooden bench, Yan Wuxie sat on the left and Nangong sat on the right, with a large space between them.

"Would you like some tea? It can help with digestion," Yan Wuxie said, already holding a can of tea in his hand.

Nangong nodded, and Yan Wuxie took the kettle to the kitchen to boil water. When the hot tea was delivered to Nangong, Nangong smiled and thanked Yan Wuxie. This bright smile made Yan Wuxie momentarily stunned.

Noticing that Yan Wuxie was not moving, Nangong waved his hand in front of the boy, which brought Yan Wuxie back to his senses, and he sat down awkwardly to the side.

As if sensing something, Nangong took a sip of hot tea, placed the teacup on the table, and then moved closer to Yan Wuxie.

"Little brother Wuxie, you wouldn't happen to have fallen for your older sister, would you?"

Yan Wuxie instantly bristled, his words becoming somewhat stammering.

"How...how is this possible?! We've only known each other for a short time!"

Nangong was still close to Yan Wuxie, and her beautiful, clear eyes were so captivating in the young man's eyes.

"Am I not pretty enough, sister?"

Yan Wuxie swallowed hard, a gesture that caught Nangong's eye and made her laugh inwardly.

That's just how charming I am!

Nangong reached out and brushed Yan Wuxie's short hair back, gently pressing her thin lips to Yan Wuxie's forehead. At this moment, she truly regarded Yan Wuxie as her younger brother.

"Thank you for taking me in, thank you for cooking for me, thank you for doing my laundry, thank you for giving me your bed."

A series of thank yous and the warm touch on his forehead made Yan Wuxie's brain shut down. A wisp of smoke visibly rose from the boy's head, and his face was redder than ever before.

Nangong laughed heartily and poked Yan Wuxie's burning cheek with her slender fingers.

"Wu Xie is so cute."

Yan Wuxie turned his head away from Nangong, which made Nangong even more playful.

"Oh, is Wu Xie blushing?"

"No." Yan Wuxie responded very quickly, but he didn't dare to look Nangong in the eye.

Nangong stopped teasing Yan Wuxie, got up, rolled up his sleeves, and headed to the kitchen.

"Go take a shower first, I'll go wash the dishes."

Yan Wuxie watched Nangong's retreating figure without saying anything, patted his face, walked out of the house, and went to the yard to bring in the dried clothes.

But looking at Nangong's personal clothing, Yan Wuxie's pent-up desire returned.

He took a deep breath, wrapped his undergarments inside his coat, put them away, went back into the house and placed them on the bench, then picked up his own clothes and walked into the bathroom with a flushed face.

After washing the dishes, Nangong walked into the living room and saw his clothes. He glanced at the bathroom and suddenly felt a burning sensation in his body.

After the two of them finished showering, the two ends of the wooden bench were occupied by the two people on the left and right.

Yan Wuxie was looking at today's newspaper, while Nangong took a book from his room and was reading it with great interest.

The boy and girl acted like an old married couple, each doing their own thing, not at all like people who had just met a couple of days ago.

Every now and then, Nangong would steal a glance at Yan Wuxie, and Yan Wuxie's earnest expression gradually imprinted itself on her heart.

Yan Wuxie noticed Nangong's gaze, but pretended not to notice; his heart was far from calm.

"Nan, Nangong?"

Nangong stared at the book, but the words on it seemed like ants, making them impossible for her to see.

"Call me 'sister'."

Yan Wuxie's eyes twitched, and he put down the newspaper and picked up the tea that had long since gone cold.

Did you tidy up the house today?

Nangong was still reading her book when she calmly said, "Call me 'sister' and I'll talk to you."

Yan Wuxie took a sip of cold tea to calm himself down.

"elder sister."

The boy will eventually be hung up and turned into a pouty-mouthed boy.
