Nangong closed the book with satisfaction, snatched the teacup from Yan Wuxie's hand, and took a sip himself.
"I've finished mine, you wouldn't be so stingy, would you?"
Yan Wuxie nodded helplessly.
Following the spot where Yan Wuxie had just drunk, Nangong Qiao took a sip, her face slightly flushed, and then proudly said, "How was it? Was it cleaned up properly?"
"It's very clean, thank you for cleaning the house."
Nangong put down his teacup and smiled at Yan Wuxie.
"I should be thanking you for taking me in; it's nothing."
After taking a bath, Nangong was still wearing Yan Wuxie's clothes. His own clothes were dry, but they were for going out.
Yan Wuxie glanced at Nangong.
"Judging from your clothes, your family is quite well-off. Why did you choose to run away from home?"
Nangong was somewhat stunned. After asking the question, Yan Wuxie kept looking at Nangong, as if he needed an answer.
"I don't have many years left to live."
Nangong chose to reveal everything about herself. She was very grateful to Yan Wuxie for taking her in, and she didn't want to hide anything from her benefactor.
The two fell into a long silence, which Yan Wuxie broke first.
"Hey, sister, why don't you stay here with me? I have money and can guarantee the quality of life for both of us."
Nangong moved closer to Yan Wuxie and rested his head on the boy's broad shoulder.
"Thank you, Wuxie brother."
Because of Nangong's reliance, Yan Wuxie transformed into a steam engine again, his whole body burning up horribly.
Nangong's face was also very red.
"I have nothing to repay you with, so how about I repay you with my body? Anyway, I'm going to die in a few years."
These words plunged the two into silence once more. Yan Wuxie stared intently at her with sharp eyes, making Nangong feel uneasy.
Nangong quickly waved his hand and laughed awkwardly, "Just kidding, just kidding."
But as soon as she finished speaking, Yan Wuxie grabbed her hand. Yan Wuxie looked at her intently, and Nangong wanted to look away.
“Look at me.”
Yan Wuxie's domineering nature left Nangong only able to look at him with longing.
The boy said in a deep voice, "Don't say things like that again. I consider you a friend, and I respect you very much."
Yan Wuxie wanted to say something more, but Nangong's outstretched jade finger silenced his mouth. Nangong looked at Yan Wuxie tenderly.
"I know I was wrong. I didn't realize you valued me so much."
Feeling the sweet warmth of the girl leaning against him, Yan Wuxie's initial anger vanished completely, leaving him only as a relentless steam engine that kept running.
Seeing that it was getting late, Yan Wuxie suggested that they get ready for bed, but Nangong grabbed his hand and pulled him to the room.
The two stood in the dark room, and Yan Wuxie was somewhat bewildered by the current situation.
Nangong pounced onto the bed with a loud thud, threw off the covers and lay down on one side, patting the soft mattress.
"Come here, let's sleep together."
Knowing that Yan Wuxie might misunderstand, Nangong added, "There's only one bed in the house, and I'd feel bad if I kept sleeping on it, so let's sleep together."
The room was dark, so the blushing faces of the boy and girl couldn't be seen. They were both shy, but each one was bolder than the other. Knowing that he couldn't refuse, Yan Wuxie stiffly lay down next to Nangong.
Nangong's heart pounded with anxiety, and so did Yan Wuxie's.
After struggling with his thoughts for a while, Yan Wuxie finally got up to leave the room, but Nangong grabbed his hand.
"The exchange between men and women..."
Before Yan Wuxie could finish speaking, he felt Nangong's hand trembling as he gripped it, and Nangong's voice also trembled slightly.
"Don't go."
Yan Wuxie sighed softly and lay back down in bed, turning his back to Nangong.
Sharing the same bed, Yan Wuxie could feel Nangong trembling and hear him desperately trying to suppress his sobs.
The girl hugged the boy from behind, resting her head on Yan Wuxie's back. Yan Wuxie was at a loss, not knowing what to do.
Having no experience with men or women, Yan Wuxie had no idea how to deal with the situation, but he was still soft-hearted and slowly turned around, embracing the crying Nangong in his arms.
"I...I won't leave, please don't cry."
Nangong burst into tears and huddled into Yan Wuxie's arms.
"I don't want to die. There are so many places I haven't been to, so many delicious foods I haven't tried. I don't want to die..."
But the girl's voice gradually weakened, and soon even breathing resumed. Yan Wuxie instinctively patted Nangong's head. The girl in his arms, like a homeless kitten that had found a warm home, snuggled closer to Yan Wuxie's warm embrace.
After realizing that Nangong was completely asleep, Yan Wuxie still chose to leave the room. He quietly got out of bed, then quietly left the room and closed the door behind him. He lay down on the cold, hard wooden bench, and moonlight shone through the window. The boy pursed his lips, closed his eyes, and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, it was a cloudy day.
Yan Wuxie felt warm, but a little cramped. He slowly opened his eyes and found Nangong lying next to him, nestled in his arms.
The young man sighed inwardly, gently got up, picked her up, put her on the bed and covered her with a blanket. Unexpectedly, Nangong woke up and looked at Yan Wuxie with pitiful eyes.
"Little brother Wuxie, are you really that unwilling to sleep with me?"
Yan Wuxie quickly shook his head and explained, "Men and women shouldn't touch each other. If word gets out, it might affect your reputation."
Nangong propped herself up and reached out to take Yan Wuxie's hand, but the boy dodged her. This subconscious action caused the girl's tears to fall uncontrollably.
Do you think I would care about those things?
Yan Wuxie couldn't bear to see Nangong cry. He panicked and tried to wipe away Nangong's tears, but Nangong suddenly leaned in and pushed him down beneath her.
“I don’t care about those things at all, I don’t care at all.”
Yan Wuxie's eyes widened as the girl's warm tears fell onto his face. He tenderly reached out to wipe away Nangong's tears.
"I understand, don't cry, don't cry."
The two nestled together, and Nangong regained her composure. She leaned against Yan Wuxie's chest, and Yan Wuxie embraced her somewhat shyly, seemingly pleased with Nangong's reaction.
After composing themselves, the two left the room. Yan Wuxie took out a new toothbrush cup and a new washcloth from his backpack and stuffed them into Nangong's hands.
"Let's go shopping together today. You probably still need a lot of things."
Nangong's eyes were still a little red. She nodded gently, leaned closer to Yan Wuxie, and tiptoed to place a light kiss on the boy's still somewhat immature profile.
This action left Yan Wuxie stunned. Although Nangong was shy, he still laughed out loud at Yan Wuxie's embarrassment.
The two squatted by the well in the courtyard to wash up. The morning air was fresh, which put Nangong in a good mood.
