Chapter 318 Youthful Inexperience

Yan Wuxie spat out the mouthwash, drew a basin of clean water from the well, soaked the dry, stiff towel in it, wrung it out, and carefully wiped his face.

"Wipe it off for my sister too."

Upon hearing this, Yan Wuxie staggered, glared at Nangong, and then soaked the towel in the wooden basin before wringing it out.

"It's a bit chilly," Yan Wuxie reminded Nangong.

Nangong brushed her loose hair back, and Yan Wuxie gently wiped her face.

Nodding in satisfaction, Nangong patted Yan Wuxie on the shoulder again.

"Great job, Wuxie, you're a very good boy. So, I've decided to make you a delicious breakfast as a reward!"

Yan Wuxie's eyes betrayed seven parts disbelief and three parts disgust. Nangong reached out and touched Yan Wuxie's nose.

"What do you mean? What do you mean? How dare you look at me like that!"

Yan Wuxie quickly avoided eye contact and chuckled, saying, "No, no, it's my honor to eat breakfast made by my sister."

Nangong then withdrew his hand, smiled, and turned to run into the house.

"Just wait, I'll definitely convince you!"

Yan Wuxie watched the girl's pretty back and couldn't help but smile. After washing the towel and putting the toothbrush and cup into the washbasin, Yan Wuxie picked up the basin and slowly walked back into the house.

Just as I placed the washbasin in the bathroom, Nangong's shout came from the kitchen.

"Little brother Wuxie, come here quickly!"

Thinking something had happened, Yan Wuxie appeared at the kitchen doorway, only to see Nangong looking troubled. She was wearing an apron, holding a spatula in one hand and covering her hair with the other to prevent her long hair from falling and obstructing her vision.

"I have a hair tie in my left pocket, please tie my hair up for me."

Yan Wuxie nodded, reached out and took out a red hair tie. He was a little hesitant because he had no experience, but he was good at doing things since he was a child and quickly helped Nangong tie her hair.

Nangong gave Yan Wuxie a handsome smile. "Alright, go outside and wait for your food. I'll be ready in no time."

Yan Wuxie agreed and sat down in the living room. Looking at the empty house, he felt the warmth of home for the first time, and an indescribable sense of happiness welled up in his heart.

"Perhaps this isn't so bad," he murmured, his eyes unconsciously drifting towards the busy figures in the kitchen.

Fate is truly wondrous. Despite having known each other for only a short time, the young man felt as if he had lived with the girl in the kitchen for many years.

Yan Wuxie's empty heart was somewhat filled.

Nangong divided the cooked noodles into two large bowls, and then put the pre-fried eggs on top. This was much better than yesterday's lunch, and Nangong was extremely proud of it.

"Dinner's ready!"

Yan Wuxie, who was lost in thought, was called back. He got up and walked to the dining table, and found that today's breakfast looked unusually edible, and Nangong had a look on his face that begged for praise.

"Go wash your hands before you eat." Nangong took off her apron, and Yan Wuxie obediently went into the kitchen, scooped up a ladle of water with a water ladle and washed her hands. Nangong also came over, and Yan Wuxie thoughtfully poured water into her hands so that the girl could wash her hands carefully.

The two sat down. Yan Wuxie looked at the steaming noodles and the golden fried egg in the bowl and couldn't believe that Nangong had made them. The dishes at noon yesterday were barely edible, so he was certain that the noodles were only edible in appearance.

But he was proven wrong as soon as he took a bite. It was just a very ordinary but delicious bowl of noodles. Yan Wuxie looked at Nangong in disbelief, which made Nangong raise his head even higher, like a noble white swan.

"How is it? Is it delicious?" Nangong looked at Yan Wuxie with anticipation in his eyes.

Yan Wuxie nodded blankly and slowly uttered two words.

"tasty."

Nangong laughed heartily, "That's right, don't you know who I am? A little noodle soup is nothing to me."

Yan Wuxie was still very surprised. The last person who was so talented in cooking was his sworn brother, Chu Ying. He never expected to see such talent in the poor girl he had taken in.

While eating, Nangong laughed and said, "I am very talented in many areas, so don't underestimate me."

Yan Wuxie nodded seriously. Although the noodles were ordinary, he tasted a long-lost warmth in them.

This strange emotion left Yan Wuxie somewhat at a loss.

After breakfast, Nangong went into Yan Wuxie's room to change her clothes, took off her hair tie, and tidied her hair.

"Let's go." Nangong said to Yan Wuxie, who was sitting in the living room waiting for her, after changing her clothes.

It was quite a long walk from outside the city to inside. Nangong walked side by side with Yan Wuxie, always wearing a bright smile on her face. Yan Wuxie couldn't understand why she looked so happy.

"Are you happy?"

Nangong subconsciously replied, "Because I'm with you, I'm very happy."

These words made the young boy and girl blush, and they remained silent all the way into the city.

After buying some necessities at the store, Nangong took Yan Wuxie to the tailor shop. She hadn't brought any clothes with her when she escaped, only the outfit she was wearing.

Nangong felt quite embarrassed that he had spent all of Yan Wuxie's money. Looking at the several bags in Yan Wuxie's arms, Nangong said gratefully, "Thank you, Brother Wuxie. I will find a job to earn money to pay you back."

Yan Wuxie shook his head, "It's alright, I have money, I don't need this little bit."

Nangong paused, taken aback.

“But you’re a year younger than me, where are you going to get so much money? Even if you have a job, you have to save it up. You’ll have to get married in the future, right? You need to save up for your wife.”

Yan Wuxie was clearly surprised by Nangong's words and didn't know how to respond for a moment.

Nangong saw a vendor selling candied hawthorns on the street. She glanced at Yan Wuxie, but their eyes met.

Yan Wuxie immediately understood and walked up to the vendor selling candied hawthorns.

"Hello, I'd like two."

But Nangong stopped her as soon as she finished speaking, and she quickly said, "Just one, one is enough."

Yan Wuxie couldn't refuse her, so he finally let the shopkeeper give him one.

Nangong was overjoyed, holding the bright red candied hawthorn in her hand. She waved it in front of Yan Wuxie like a treasure.

"Candied hawthorn berries!"

"Is it strange?" Yan Wuxie wondered why such a small candied hawthorn could make the girl so happy.

Nangong took a small bite and explained, "My family is very strict. I ate this once when I was a child, under my mother's guidance. This is the second time."

The girl handed the candied hawthorn to Yan Wuxie.

"You bought it, so you eat it too."

Eating from the same root made Yan Wuxie a little shy, but the girl's serious expression and expectant eyes made Yan Wuxie take the root and bite into it.

"Is it tasty?"

"tasty."

The two wandered around the city until noon, when Yan Wuxie took Nangong to a mutton restaurant.

"Winter is coming, let's eat some mutton."

Nangong smiled and nodded, "You're the head of the household, I'll listen to you."
