Chapter 61 [VIP]

Chapter 61 [VIP]

"And what are you?"

Chu Ling's words were too outrageous, and Pei Xingzhi unconsciously raised his voice. Only after he said it did he realize that his reaction was too strong. He quickly opened the door and looked outside. After making sure that no one else had been attracted, he closed the stairwell door and pulled Chu Ling up the stairs a few more steps.

"What did you just say? You're a Beta? Are you crazy?" Pei Xingzhi swore that this sentence shocked him more than anything he had ever heard in his life, even more than the moment he learned that he was a Beta.

He was somewhat prepared for that incident, but Chu Ling's words came as a complete surprise.

He grabbed Chu Ling's arm, his lips parted slightly as if he wanted to say something, but he couldn't get the words out after making two or three "a" sounds.

“I really am a Beta.” Chu Ling saw his disbelief and confusion, and gave him a few minutes of free time to process it. When Pei Xingzhi looked up at him again, Chu Ling spoke again, saying each word clearly: “Although I know it’s hard for you to understand, I am indeed a Beta.”

Pei Xingzhi calmed down for a few minutes and managed to regain his voice, but he still found it hard to believe Chu Ling's words. He made Chu Ling turn around and gave him a very intrusive look at the back of his neck, where the protruding part was clearly a gland that only Omegas have.

"You're a Beta? If you're a Beta, then what am I? Am I an Omega?" Pei Xingzhi held his head in his hands, brushed his bangs back, and looked at the glands on the back of Chu Ling's neck, asking him speechlessly, "If you're a Beta, where did your glands come from? How could a Beta have glands?"

Faced with Pei Xingzhi's somewhat out-of-control behavior, Chu Ling simply pressed down Pei Xingzhi's restless hands, pushed up his glasses, and answered him with utmost calmness: "Just as you can use drugs to forcibly suppress the evolution of the mark, I can also use drugs to forcibly catalyze the production of glands. However, my glands are just for show and cannot function as a normal Omega. So from a physiological point of view, I am still a Beta."

Upon hearing Chu Ling mention that he had forcibly suppressed the evolution of his imprint using medication, Pei Xingzhi's expression instantly shifted from speechless to shocked. He looked at Chu Ling in confusion, muttering, "How did you know..."

He hadn't told anyone about this, except for his brother and the doctor. No one else knew he had almost undergone differential differentiation. How did Chu Ling know this? And how did she know he had used medication...?

"you……"

"That's right, we are the same doctor."

Pei Xingzhi was a little unsure how to describe his feelings at that moment.

The doctor has no medical ethics, Chu Ling is a riddle teller, his brother is unreliable, and Xie Nanyi doesn't want to let him go.

This was the first time he had ever felt this helpless feeling of wanting to curse but not knowing who to curse.

"So why are you telling me all this?"

What's the point of knowing he was a Beta who almost differentiated and telling him that you are a Beta? He's just an ordinary college student, not some Super Saiyan. Why does he keep bothering me with so many questions every day?

"I want to cooperate with you. I know you want to break free from the marriage arrangement with the Xie family, and I can help you leave here. In return, I need you to use your connections with the Xie family to help me get into the military." Chu Ling spoke succinctly, saying things that Pei Xingzhi never expected in his life.

"What did you say?" Pei Xingzhi took a few steps back and braced himself against the stair railing to keep himself standing. He had received too much information today, and his brain was no longer functioning properly.

"Where do you want me to take you? The military? Chu Ling, I take back what I just said about you being crazy. You're the one who's truly crazy now. I think you don't need to go to the military; you need to go to the hospital." Pei Xingzhi took a few minutes to fully process Chu Ling's words before speaking incredulously. Do all these top students have some kind of mental illness? The things they say are getting stranger and stranger. He needs to request the school to screen them for genetic issues that might be a problem with these geniuses.

“Pei Xingzhi, I’m not joking with you, I’m serious.” Chu Ling probably understood that his words wouldn’t be easily accepted. He patiently listened to Pei Xingzhi finish speaking, then stepped forward and blocked his way, continuing, “I know you need time to accept this, and I can give you that time. But you heard the conversation between those two Alphas just now, right? They have videos that could threaten you. Of course, you can also choose to let the Xie family help you solve this; their solution will definitely be more perfect than mine.”

"Why do you want to cooperate with me?" Pei Xingzhi didn't answer with a yes or no, but instead asked after glancing at him, "Is that why you approached me?"

"No." Chu Ling answered quickly, stepping back to make way for Pei Xingzhi and answering the question under Pei Xingzhi's expectant gaze.

"I initially approached you because I made a deal with Xie Nanyi. Well... I probably did something harmless for him."

“Since you and Xie Nanyi have known each other for a long time, why not just have him help you get into the military instead of going through me? And your roommate, he can help you too, right?” Hearing Xie Nanyi’s name from Chu Ling, Pei Xingzhi had a feeling of “I knew it”.

Come to think of it, everything around him was arranged so cleverly, how stupid must he have been to not have doubted these coincidences?

"Because our cooperation failed, I didn't meet his requirements, so naturally he wouldn't help me. But his permission isn't important, what I need is the program you have."

"A program?" If he wasn't mistaken, the only program he had shown Chu Ling recently was one that enhanced defense capabilities, but it was still in the testing phase. He didn't have access to the lab, so he had to ask Chu Ling to test it for him. It seemed that the experiment was going very well.

“There’s no way to open a back door without a reasonable reason. Although I entered the Alliance University as a special admissions student, unfortunately, I’m not exactly a genius. So if I want to use external public opinion to force the government to approve my application, I have to make a real contribution. That’s why I need you to put my name on the program you develop.”

After Chu Ling finished speaking these blunt words in a calm tone, Pei Xingzhi tightened his grip on the railing. He lowered his head and remained silent for a long time, swallowing back all the words he wanted to say.

“You have a week to think it over. But considering our past relationship, even if you don’t agree, I’ll still help you deal with those two Alphas.” Chu Ling added, seeing that his attitude had softened slightly. He turned to leave, but glanced back at Pei Xingzhi as he reached for the stairwell doorknob.

"Pei Xingzhi, don't treat me as a friend. I'm not suitable to be your friend."

“You’re not in the right state to go to class right now. I’ve found a substitute for you. You can stay here and calm down for a while.”

Chu Ling pushed open the door and left. Pei Xingzhi's body slowly slid down the handrail and finally sat down on the stairs.

He wasn't considering Chu Ling's suggestion. His mind was in complete chaos, like an overloaded machine. A screw in his brain had started to loosen, just waiting for the right moment to cause the machine to disintegrate.

My head hurts so much.

A wave of dizziness and a dense, stinging sensation washed over him, and he pounded his head, trying to clear his head a little.

Chu Ling approached him because of Xie Nanyi's request.

From the moment he was born until now, he has always tried his best to please everyone and do his best to complete every task assigned to him. He has never been cold to anyone, and even when he was being bullied by the Alphas, he still thought that if he paid a little more attention, the Alphas would stop bullying him.

But it's no use.

People won't treat him well just because he's easy to get along with; they'll only retaliate against him with even more problems.

My head hurts so much.

I can't breathe.

Pei Xingzhi didn't remember how he got back to his dormitory. By the time he came to his senses, he was already outside the dormitory door.

He mechanically opened the door, and Wuyun had already run over when it heard the sound at the door. It was carrying Pei Xingzhi's slippers in its mouth, circling around Pei Xingzhi's legs, its fluffy little tail rubbing against him.

He changed into slippers, bent down, picked up Wuyun, and gave her a good rub, which lessened his frustration considerably.

"You're back." Xie Nanyi followed him to the door, took the bag from Pei Xingzhi's hand and hung it on the rack by the door, then leaned down and nuzzled against his neck in a coquettish manner.

"Chu Ling said he would be away for a few days, so he sent Wuyun back."

"Mm." Pei Xingzhi nodded, pushed Xie Nanyi aside, and walked past him into his room with Wuyun in his arms. His feelings were written all over his face; anyone could tell what he was thinking at a glance. So he didn't want Xie Nanyi to see his unhappiness.

He returned to his room, closed the door, and collapsed onto the bed, not wanting to move at all.

Xie Nanyi was turned away by him and could only stand at the door and complain to him for a few minutes. Seeing that Pei Xingzhi really didn't want to talk to her, she could only resign herself to her fate and leave.

Wuyun jumped onto the bed and rubbed against his hand, whimpering and begging him to take her for a walk.

"How about we skip it today? I don't really feel like moving around today," Pei Xingzhi said listlessly, rubbing Wuyun's head.

Wuyun sensed his emotions, barked once, turned around, jumped off the bed, and opened Pei Xingzhi's dormitory door with her years of experience in breaking and entering.

Pei Xingzhi had no interest in what Wu Yun was going to do; he was too tired and just wanted to sleep for a while.

Just as he was about to drift off to sleep, the howl of the dark cloud came again, followed by Xie Nanyi's voice.

"Dark Cloud, don't bite my trouser leg."

Wu Yun led Xie Nanyi into Pei Xingzhi's dormitory. Although the door was open, Xie Nanyi pretended to knock on the door before coming in.

"Xiao Zhi, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Xie Nanyi and Wu Yun huddled together next to Pei Xingzhi, their two fluffy heads rubbing against Pei Xingzhi's face from left to right.

Pei Xingzhi wanted to pretend to be asleep, but the two furry heads rubbed against his skin and made him itchy, so he couldn't help but push them away and sit up.

"What are you doing?" Pei Xingzhi glared at Xie Nanyi, then picked up Wuyun and shoved her into his arms. "Can't you see I want to sleep?! Get out of here!"

The man and the dog exchanged a glance under Pei Xingzhi's angry glare, and simultaneously gave him a fawning smile.

"Smiling and joking won't work, get out of here!"

The man and his dog were turned away again. Xie Nanyi stroked Wuyun's fur and said awkwardly, "Your mother doesn't want us anymore."

A note from the author:

I've been having a really bad headache lately, but I'll try my best to keep things updated.
