Chapter 57 Pre-war Preparations

Chang Renfei had just experienced a major ups and downs in his life. Just as humans blush when angry, his race's emotions were reflected in their skin color. His body, originally a dark red, now deepened even further into brown.

Just 30 seconds ago, he was still preaching to his apprentice, and 30 seconds later, he was slapped in the face by the latest observation data.

"Old Chang, I'm not dreaming, am I?" A controller stared intently at the data scrolling on the screen. "That kid was actually right."

Chang Renfei did not answer his question, but frowned, thought for a few seconds, and then asked.

"Can you determine the properties of the source of gravity?"

"Um... I'm afraid it's a bit difficult." The operator fiddled with the control panel in front of him.

"There's been some unexplained interference since a while ago, and the readings haven't been able to stabilize..."

Before the operator could finish his words, his attention was drawn to a string of numbers that suddenly turned red.

"Doppler effect detected, target approaching rapidly!"

"time!"

"Cross the Stargate junction in five minutes."

After receiving the reply, Chang Renfei ran towards Nolan.

"Nolan! Nolan!"

"Five minutes." He held up five fingers. "Sheng Li is right. In another five minutes the stuff inside will come out."

"Is the information reliable?"

"Ninety-nine percent."

Nolan frowned as he looked at the large screen in the control room. A huge progress bar occupied a prominent position in the center of the screen. The red progress bar increased from left to right at a visible speed, and the numbers on the right jumped up one by one, like a death warrant.

"Pull one level."

Without any further hesitation, Nolan immediately sounded the first level alarm.

"Pull up one level!"

The operator repeated the commander's order, and a rapid alarm sounded immediately, and ominous red light kept sweeping across everyone's faces.

Outside the star gate.

The shuttle controlled by Bai Yi was circling the star gate boredly, while he was thinking about how he could get back the most construction pieces.

However, the sudden level one alarm interrupted his thoughts.

A supermassive entity of unknown nature will pass through the stargate in five minutes.

"What's going on?"

Bai Yi quickly exchanged information with several other border guards, but then he found that everyone's information was the same, and almost everyone received the news without any preparation.

He then inquired through the command network, but the only response he received was to prepare for battle. As for the rest of the information, especially the identity and purpose of the visitor, they were completely clueless.

It was the first time he had encountered such a situation, preparing for battle without knowing the number and type of the enemy, and not even knowing whether they were enemies.

But he still followed the standard combat procedure, pulling away from the shuttle that served as the carrier of his consciousness, and then activating the upgraded acceleration track located in the C11 galaxy at the Pass.

Under his command, the spacecraft in the new Mars low-Earth orbit hangar were unlocked one by one, and they lined up to enter the starting end of the acceleration orbit.

Once prepared, the acceleration track was immediately activated. Powerful electrical currents burst from the track, forming a massive thunderstorm. The ship advanced amidst these storms. At the end of the acceleration track, the existing barriers of this universe began to weaken, and dots of purple-red mist squeezed in and out from the narrow cracks in space.

The ship activated its jump engines and, aided by the acceleration track, plunged headfirst into the fog. The lightning raging on the acceleration track gradually subsided. The shattered and twisted space began to heal itself. The area where the two worlds had been forcibly drawn together, now freed from the pull of the acceleration track, began to separate spontaneously. The barrier of reality, weakened by mutual cancellation and annihilation, once again thickened.

Then came the second batch of spaceships. These spaceships waited at the starting point for a relatively short time. Once the acceleration track was fully charged and the violent thunder once again streaked across the starry sky, they once again disappeared from this universe.

Such scenes kept repeating themselves in the D7162 star field belonging to the Lion Head constellation. The border defenders in the star field sent their fleet towards the star gate as soon as they received the first-level alarm.

They didn't know what they were facing, but out of loyalty to the alliance and a sense of responsibility, these border guards sent out their standing fleet without reservation.

But distant water cannot quench immediate thirst.

The moment when the gravity source passes through the star gate is getting closer and closer.

As the captain of the 12th Squadron of the Second Fleet and the commander-in-chief of this operation, Nolan is now extremely anxious.

The current manpower was severely insufficient. The largest combat vessel of the 12th Squadron was a few cruisers. Among the combat forces present, besides himself, there was only a security force composed of local police and some armed drones brought by the explanation.

The police force's configuration is not even as good as the 12th Squadron, because their main targets are some vagrant pirates and criminals, so they are equipped with a large number of assault frigates and destroyers. Although they are numerous, they lack heavy firepower.

As for the armed drones brought by the border guards, there is no need to mention them. Although some of these suicide drones can also cause good damage to medium-sized targets, their number is limited after all.

Moreover, in the face of absolute tonnage suppression, any tricks are meaningless.

Nolan forced himself to remain calm. He couldn't pass on this anxiety to the people below him. Although the Second Fleet was not a frontline unit and Nolan had never commanded any large-scale battles, he still had some basic qualities.

After quickly confirming the deployment of all the troops at his disposal, Nolan ordered them to disperse and form a loose encirclement around the star gate.

The majority of Squadron 12's combat craft were positioned perpendicular to the perimeter of the encirclement and the stargate exit. Compared to the police force, Squadron 12 possessed a significant advantage in both equipment and experience in military operations. From this position, they would be directly confronting their target.

The police force is divided into several teams based on their respective functions, a practice they've developed through their long battles against criminals. These teams can collaborate and work together to contain targets, while the loose formation also allows them to utilize the high-speed capabilities of their vessels.

As for the armed drones brought by the border defenders, they filled the gaps between the different teams. Because different types of drones were specialized for different targets, they served as the fire brigade on the battlefield.

In the event of a fight, these drones will autonomously attack based on the size and danger level of the target. They are also responsible for protecting the flanks of the police and Squadron 12.
