Chapter 6 The Breakdown in the Hotel

People with the same qualifications and abilities will have varying degrees of success, some becoming famous while others remain relatively unknown. A few will remain popular for a long time, but most will be fleeting meteors. So it's actually quite cruel.

That's why, in this industry, whether male or female celebrities, as long as they are young and good-looking, they try their best to make their faces and figures as perfect as possible.

As the saying goes, "As long as the face is there, the country will be there," one may be attracted by appearance, but will eventually be captivated by talent.

Seeing his agent's unpleasant expression, Wei Changfeng also felt guilty.

Zhao Hui ordered room service and, in addition to breakfast, requested a champagne ice bucket of ice.

The waiter assumed they wanted champagne so early in the morning, so he kindly asked what kind of wine they wanted and at what temperature, so the restaurant could bring it to them directly.

Zhao Hui had no choice but to tell the waiter that he didn't need any drinks, just an ice bucket and ice.

Knowing he was in the wrong, Wei Changfeng sat quietly at the foot of the bed with his hands hanging down, looking very obedient, even a little cute, completely different from his usual aloof and cool demeanor.

Zhao Hui had worked with him for many years and knew his tricks inside and out. He knew that Zhao Hui was deliberately pretending to be weak, helpless and pitiful in order to avoid being scolded.

Although I had already seen through his tricks, I couldn't bring myself to scold him because of his pitiful appearance.

It's certain he secretly ate something in his room last night. But there's no point in scolding him now; the most important thing is to get the swelling down before noon.

The food cart arrived quickly. Wei Changfeng didn't dare eat a single bite of breakfast, only drank two small cups of Italian black coffee, and then wrapped ice cubes in a towel and applied it to his face.

This is a method for reducing swelling that a senior colleague taught him backstage at a performance.

He didn't know if this method would work for others, but it had a magical effect on him.

He endured the icy cold sensation, applied ice to all parts of his face for a while, and then began to do some simple stretching exercises in the room.

After all that, the swelling had gone down significantly. He went to the gym for a while, and when he came back at nine o'clock, he was full of energy.

Xiao Hao stayed in his room during this time, while Zhao Hui accompanied Wei Changfeng to the gym to better supervise his workouts.

Zhao Hui was a few years older than Wei Changfeng and had been his manager since Wei Changfeng debuted a year ago, so Wei Changfeng had a certain amount of respect for him.

Even after becoming famous, it remained the same, somewhat like the fear a younger brother has of his older brother.

The moment the two entered the house, Xiao Hao saw Wei Changfeng's face and jumped up happily.

"Brother Hui, I told you, don't worry, my brother's face is amazing, it swells up just like that, and it goes down just like that!"

Zhao Hui rolled his eyes at him and didn't reply. He then urged him and Xiaomin to double-check all the details of the afternoon's activities before waiting for the brand representatives.

The brand's events have dedicated stylists and makeup artists, so Xiaomin doesn't have to lift a finger.

The main reason for bringing her along was that there were three media outlets interviewing her after the event. They only provided photographers, not makeup and styling, so she had to handle those herself.

Just as it turned 10 o'clock, the brand's staff arrived at the hotel. Who says the French are often late? When it comes to important matters, they can be extremely punctual.

Zhao Hui and Xiao Min watched as a group of people busied themselves around Wei Changfeng, while Xiao Hao occasionally assisted by handing things over. A translator was also present, so communication was seamless.

At 1 p.m., a limousine appeared downstairs at the hotel. Wei Changfeng and his staff set off for the event venue—the flagship store of the French brand on the Champs-Élysées—to participate in the brand's 100th anniversary celebration.

During the same period, Lin Xiao finally met Wang Wei, who had stood her up at the airport the day before. He was the son of Wang Handong, a French-Chinese businessman her father had met while doing business—a young man three years older than her.

Wang Wei came here today specifically to apologize, and he also brought a gift that his father had prepared for Lin Xiao.

Upon first seeing Lin Xiao, Wang Wei immediately regretted his decision: If he had known this girl was so beautiful, why did he go to Lyon on business? He should have stayed in Paris and waited for her arrival!

When Lin Xiao was in China, she had contacted Wang Wei several times online to finalize the flight and time for him to pick her up at the airport when she came to France.

Lin Xiao declined his video invitation and only communicated with him via text and voice.

Wang Wei had also looked at Lin Xiao's WeChat Moments. But Lin Xiao rarely posted anything, let alone selfies, so Wang Wei couldn't find any of her photos no matter how many times he scrolled through them.

His father said that he had met Lin Xiao when he went to China a few years ago, and that she was a very beautiful and quiet girl.

However, Wang Wei did not believe it. He thought that his father was just saying that to fool him into going to the airport to pick someone up.

What pretty girl doesn't love taking selfies and posting photos online? Besides, Lin Xiao wouldn't even video chat with him, which must be because she lacks confidence in her looks.

Many boys believe that pretty and cute girls are like goddesses of heaven, and must act very high-profile, while ugly girls are quiet as chickens.

Some even believe that if a girl is unwilling to video chat or send photos to them, she is definitely ugly.

The moment Wang Wei saw Lin Xiao, he realized that he had completely misjudged the situation.

Actually, he's not a bad person, and he felt deeply guilty for leaving Lin Xiao alone at the airport yesterday.

However, if the girl is pretty, gentle, or even charming, his guilt will be even deeper.

For example, from the moment he met Lin Xiao, he felt even more guilty for breaking his promise.

So I told her in detail about the massive nationwide railway strike I had encountered the day before, and the terrible situation of the car I had pieced together breaking down halfway, to fully explain my predicament.

Perhaps it was her childhood experiences that gave Lin Xiao a composure rarely seen in girls her age.
