However, Lin Xiao's mood made her completely oblivious to this, and she just stared blankly up at the sky.
Wei Changfeng followed her gaze and looked up, only to find that the night sky was filled with countless stars, like a plate of broken diamonds spilled on a black velvet surface, sparkling and shining.
"So beautiful!" he exclaimed repeatedly. "I haven't seen so many stars in years. Maybe they're common in China too, but I'm usually too busy to notice them. I spend most of my free time sleeping."
Lin Xiao nodded and said softly, "You can see this kind of starry sky in many places in China, as long as it's not in the city, it's fine in the countryside. In the city, the stars in the night sky are hidden because other lights are too bright."
Wei Changfeng turned his head to look at her. Lin Xiao's eyes were very glistening, and he didn't know if there were tears welling up in them, but her tone was gentle and calm, and he couldn't tell anything was wrong.
He paused for a moment, then decided to speak up: "I apologize to you on behalf of Xiaohao and Xiaomin for what happened tonight."
These two kids have been with me for two or three years. They're really nice people, just a little absent-minded sometimes. Don't mind them; they didn't mean to upset you.
Lin Xiao turned to look at him and smiled slightly, "If I didn't even know this, I'd be too clueless, wouldn't I? Don't worry, I don't mind, and I'm not angry."
After a brief silence, he spoke again in the darkness: "I was a little out of line just now, wasn't that embarrassing?"
"No, no," Wei Changfeng quickly waved his hand.
"The song you just sang, my ex-boyfriend also sang. He practiced singing it many times in front of me in order to perform well in the school performance. So when I heard it just now, I felt a little sentimental."
Wei Changfeng didn't know how to respond, so he just hummed softly to indicate that he was listening.
"But it's all in the past. Go back inside, I'm fine. I'm all better now." Lin Xiao said, shaking his head casually as if he could shake the past out of his mind.
Hearing her say that, Wei Changfeng felt relieved, but he didn't move. He just looked at the dark trees not far away and asked Lin Xiao, "Do you know what kind of trees these are? I saw them all over the mountains during the day, and they don't lose their leaves even in winter."
"Does it look familiar?" Lin Xiao asked. Seeing Wei Changfeng nod, she continued, "It's spruce, the raw material for Christmas trees. Large-scale logging begins a month before the Christmas season, and there is huge demand in the European market."
"Ah, right, I'm so used to seeing trees covered in all sorts of decorations, I wouldn't recognize them without them, haha. Do foreigners put real trees like these in their homes for Christmas? They must cut down a lot of trees every year."
"This is their tradition, but many families use fake ones, after all, everyone's economic level is different, and there are many poor people in the West as well."
Some people, considering environmental protection, do not support cutting down real trees and prefer to use plastic products instead. "Lin Xiao explained.
Wei Changfeng nodded and continued to look at the spruce trees in the darkness.
The spruce trees stand tall and straight, stretching their long arms in all directions, as if greeting them as the night breeze blows by.
Wei Changfeng noticed that Lin Xiao was still holding the glass of red wine that had just been brought up from downstairs, but he didn't seem to have drunk much of it, so it must have gotten cold.
"Let me get you some hot water. Don't drink anymore; you seem to have had quite a few drinks tonight." He said as he got up to go inside.
"No need, I'll just sit here for a while and then go back. You should go and rest."
Seeing that she insisted on not accepting, Wei Changfeng sat down on the spot and said, "Then I'll sit with you for a while."
Lin Xiao glanced at him: "Go back to your room. You just took a shower, your hair isn't dry yet. Don't catch a cold."
“It’s dry. I dried it before it came out. You can touch it if you don’t believe me.” Wei Changfeng said as he picked up Lin Xiao’s arm and placed her hand on his hair.
Lin Xiao's hand touched his hair, then quickly withdrew it.
Wei Changfeng's hair looked different from usual; it was surprisingly fine and soft, whereas normally it would appear as thick, black hair with a stiff texture.
Seeing Lin Xiao withdraw his hand, Wei Changfeng realized that his actions were somewhat abrupt. Just as he was about to apologize, his cell phone rang.
When he saw the caller ID, it was his agent, Zhao Hui.
When the phone connected, Zhao Hui asked him in a low voice where he was.
Wei Changfeng said he couldn't sleep, so he came out to look at the stars.
"You get downstairs and go to sleep right now!" Zhao Hui said.
Wei Changfeng only said that he came to see the stars, without saying whether he came out of the lobby or upstairs.
But when he heard Zhao Hui say that, he knew that Zhao Hui understood his position and what his agent's orders were to prevent.
"Okay." He hung up the phone and said to Lin Xiao, "Go back to your room and rest. I can only go downstairs with peace of mind after I see you go inside."
Lin Xiao glanced at him, said nothing, got up, took the blanket, and went back to the living room on the second floor with him. Then she went straight back to her room.
After Wei Changfeng went downstairs, he saw Zhao Hui standing at the door of their room waiting for him.
Seeing him approach, Zhao Hui said, "Let's talk in my room first before you go back to sleep."
Wei Changfeng sighed and followed his agent into the house.
As soon as he closed the door, Zhao Hui said to him, "Have you realized that there was something inappropriate about your behavior?"
Wei Changfeng glanced at him, feeling a surge of inexplicable anger, but he tried to suppress it and simply said, "Brother, is this the first day you've met me? What do you think I would be doing upstairs?"
Zhao Hui said, "Of course I know what kind of person you are. I'm just reminding you not to give others a chance to misunderstand because of your sympathy. That would be hurting them."
