Chapter Thirty-Two: Bloodbath at the Government Office

Everyone could see that Chen Zhennan was truly enraged. Government troops posing as bandits to kill and rob people—this was utterly lawless.

Feng Zirou stepped forward and asked in a low voice, "General, the things are all in the back mountain, aren't you going to go take a look?"

Chen Zhennan shook his head without hesitation: "There's no rush. Waiting another day isn't a bad idea. Let's take him and go back."

Feng Zirou nodded slightly, then drew a soft sword from her waist and quickly dispatched the soldiers behind her, leaving only the leader alive.

"Let's change into their clothes and go."

Chen Zhennan and his group changed into black clothes and led the government troops disguised as bandits down the mountain, quietly returning to Zhonghe Money Shop through the tunnel.

After leaving the money exchange through the back door, the group, led by the head of the government troops, followed the alleyway to the back door of the prefectural government office.

"You're a smart man. If you don't want to die, you should know what you need to do, right?"

"I know, I know, I'll go knock on the door. We all enter and exit through the back gate of the government office, and the guards inside know the situation."

As they spoke, the group walked to the door and knocked.

"Who is it? Knocking on the back door of the government office in the middle of the night, are you looking for death?" A wary voice came from behind the door.

"It's me, Zhang Hu. There's an emergency to report to the prefect."

The person behind the door seemed to recognize Zhang Hu's voice. The door slowly opened a crack, and a yamen runner peeked out. After seeing that it was Zhang Hu, he slowly opened the door.

"Zhang, why are you back so early today?" the constable asked.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Hu shuddered. He had just claimed that this was his first time robbing someone, but he had been exposed so quickly.

"I ran into a bit of trouble..."

Before Zhang Hu could finish speaking, Chen Zhennan gave Feng Zirou a wink, and Feng Zirou rushed forward in a flash.

With a flash of cold light, the soft sword sliced through the constable's throat, and blood spurted out.

"Siyao, take these two brothers and deal with all the night patrolmen in the government office, leave no one alive."

Gu Siyao gave a heavy "hmm," and then quickly left with Feng Zirou's two subordinates.

Zhang Hu was so frightened that his legs went weak, and he looked at Chen Zhennan with trembling eyes.

"Sir, who exactly are you? There are hundreds of yamen runners patrolling the night, and another hundred taking turns. How could you possibly have killed them all?"

Chen Zhennan said "Oh," and turned to look at Feng Zirou and Song Yunyang.

"Thanks to Brother Zhang Hu's reminder, Yunyang, you and Zirou go and take care of those who are changing shifts and taking a break. Be careful."

Song Yunyang didn't seem to care much, but she glanced at Chen Zhennan with some concern.

"Are you alright?"

"Me?" Chen Zhennan couldn't help but laugh: "The three of you combined can't beat me, don't worry."

Song Yunyang rolled her eyes, speechless. Her good intentions had been met with ridicule.

"You're ungrateful. I'm not going to bother with you anymore."

Chen Zhennan glanced at Zhang Hu beside him and gave him a wink, signaling him to lead the way to the room where the prefect of Qingzhou was resting.

Zhang Hu nodded slightly, indicating that he understood. The two of them quietly passed through the back garden and walked along a hidden path to the front hall.

Under the cover of night, the government office was completely silent, broken only by the occasional chirping of insects. Chen Zhennan and Zhang Hu walked carefully, trying not to make any noise.

"That's it."

Zhang Hu lowered his voice and pointed to a secluded courtyard not far ahead, where the lights were dim and the place appeared exceptionally quiet.

Chen Zhennan nodded. "Zhang Hu, you did a good job. Now, it's time for you to rest."

"Sir, what do you mean...?"

Before Zhang Hu could finish speaking, Chen Zhennan delivered a karate chop to his neck, knocking him unconscious.

Chen Zhennan looked up at the courtyard wall, then took two steps forward, leaped, and easily vaulted over the wall.

Chen Zhennan moved as nimbly as a cat, landing without making a sound.

Looking up, I saw the room of the Qingzhou Prefect just a few meters away.

"You bastard, how can you still sleep?"

After cursing, Chen Zhennan silently approached the door. The dagger in his hand slid easily into the crack of the door like a nimble snake, skillfully prying open the latch. This series of movements was fluid and without making a sound.

Pushing open the door and stepping inside, the room was dimly lit by candlelight, creating an exceptionally tranquil atmosphere.

Looking around, Chen Zhennan noticed that the bed curtains were drawn. He tiptoed to the bedside, lifted the curtains, and saw three people lying on the bed: two women and one man. The two women were young and beautiful, while the man was over forty years old and appeared to be the prefect of Qingzhou.

That bastard, he's got some nerve!

An old cow eating young grass? I really can't stand this!

Suddenly, one of the women opened her eyes. When she saw Chen Zhennan, a look of fear flashed in her eyes.

Who are you? What do you want?

The woman's voice trembled slightly, but she was quickly subdued by Chen Zhennan's gaze.

"Don't make a sound. I don't want to hurt you. Is he the prefect of Qingzhou?"

A hint of hesitation flashed in the woman's eyes, but when she saw the dagger in Chen Zhennan's hand, her body trembled slightly, clearly understanding her predicament.

"Yes, he is the prefect. We are his concubines. He... he was drunk tonight, so we..."

Chen Zhennan nodded and said in a low voice, "I understand. Don't make a sound. I won't hurt you. Go outside and wait. If anyone dares to shout, I'll kill her."

After Chen Zhennan chased the two girls out of the room, he turned around and sat on the edge of the bed. He gently stroked the prefect's slightly flushed face with his fingers, his movements as gentle as a spring breeze. After a moment, the prefect showed a contented expression and even took his hand in his own.
