Chapter Sixty-Eight: Running Out of Food

After arranging all matters in the army, Chen Zhennan resolutely left the camp with Feng Zirou and Gu Siyao.

The three of them sped along, traversing the winding and rugged mountain roads within the Great Zhou territory, which resembled the coiled paths of a giant dragon.

Along the way, Chen Zhennan was not idle; he kept observing the terrain within the territory of Da Zhou.

Finally, five days later, the three of them stepped into the territory of Dagan. Chen Zhennan and his two companions quietly circled around to the rear of Zhou Jianjia's army.

The army of the Great Zhou, like a giant black python, had already invaded more than 300 miles of the territory of the Great Wu, with its battle line stretched extremely long.

"General, the Great Zhou army's battle lines are stretched so long, this is a major taboo in military strategy," Feng Zirou said in a low voice, standing next to Chen Zhennan.

Chen Zhennan nodded. "You're right, Zhou Jianjia is taking a risk. She's too eager to succeed, and I need to teach her a lesson."

Chen Zhennan led the two to a high point, overlooking the winding battle line below.

Chen Zhennan's eyes were like those of a hawk, capturing every possible tactical opportunity.

After surveying the terrain for two days, they memorized every river and every mountain peak.

Upon returning to the Daqian Imperial Palace, Chen Zhennan immediately set about redrawing a map, his fingers moving across the map with meticulous precision in every stroke.

"General Chen, I request to see you!" Wang Gan's voice echoed through the palace, filled with barely suppressed anger.

Chen Zhennan smiled upon hearing this, but did not respond immediately. He turned to look at Gu Siyao beside him.

"Tell Wang Gan that he only needs to take charge of the 30,000 troops in Da Gan. He doesn't need to be involved in anything else. I don't even want to see Song Yunming, let alone him. That's all. Go."

Gu Siyao said "Oh," turned around and walked out of the room. Feng Zirou was standing in front of Wang Gan, her long sword already slightly drawn.

"Wang Gan, our commander-in-chief said that you only need to manage your 30,000 troops and not get involved in other matters. Please go back."

Upon hearing this, Wang Gan's expression changed drastically. This was the imperial palace of Da Gan, and Chen Zhennan dared to be so presumptuous.

"Men, gather a large army and surround Chen Zhennan's residence!"

No sooner had the words left his mouth than a dozen men in black suddenly jumped down from the rooftop. They were armed with rifles and moved swiftly and nimbly, like ghosts emerging from the night.

As an emperor in ancient times, Wang Gan had never seen a rifle before, so he naturally wouldn't take it seriously.

Gu Siyao stood among the men in black, her eyes cold, and warned, "Wang Gan, I advise you not to court death."

A cold smile appeared on Wang Gan's face. He took a step forward, his voice filled with disdain: "Looking for death? You bunch of clowns?"

With a bang, a bullet struck the stone slab at Wang Gan's feet, sending sparks flying.

Wang Gan's face turned pale instantly, his legs went weak, and he almost fell.

"You...you all..."

Wang Gan's voice trembled slightly as he finally realized that the weapons in the hands of these men in black were not ordinary.

Gu Siyao looked coldly at Wang Gan, her voice devoid of any warmth: "Wang Gan, I'll say it again, don't court death. The Commander-in-Chief's orders are not something you can disobey."

A surge of intense anger and fear welled up in Wang Gan's heart. When had he, as the ruler of a country, ever been threatened and insulted in this way?

"Are you... are you threatening me?"

Gu Siyao did not answer. She just stared coldly at Wang Gan, as if looking at prey about to be slaughtered.

She knew that Chen Zhennan's plan was on track, and Wang Gan was just a pawn on the chessboard.

Feng Zirou stepped forward and couldn't help but smile. "Wang Gan, our commander once said, 'Play your role well and don't overstep your boundaries. That's how you live longer.' So, Wang Gan, don't cross the line. Siyao isn't someone I can easily talk to."

Wang Gan snorted coldly, suppressing his anger, and slowly turned to leave.

After carefully drawing the map, Chen Zhennan called Gu Siyao in and said, "Go and find Song Yunming. I have a task for him."

Before long, Song Yunming rushed over and immediately sensed a solemn and mysterious atmosphere upon entering the room.

Chen Zhennan was seen holding a map, his expression serious yet with a hint of an enigmatic smile.

Upon seeing Song Yunming arrive, Chen Zhennan didn't waste any words and handed him the map directly, saying solemnly, "Yunming, this is a map I have carefully drawn. You should advance according to the red lines marked on this map, and then station your troops where you are."

Song Yunming took the map and unfolded it to examine it carefully. He frowned slightly, his heart filled with doubt, because there was no trace of Zhou Jianjia's army at the location marked with a red line on the map.

Looking up, Song Yunming asked with a puzzled expression, "Brother-in-law, we haven't seen Zhou Jianjia's army along the path of this red thread. Why is that?"

Chen Zhennan put his hands behind his back, took two steady steps in the room, and slowly said, "Yunming, don't ask any more questions, just do as I say. Once you reach the end of this red line, just wait patiently for a few days, and Zhou Jianjia and her army will appear."

A look of understanding flashed in Song Yunming's eyes, and he nodded: "I understand, I will lead the army to set off now."

After Song Yunming led the team off, Chen Zhennan's side was also well prepared.

He selected three hundred fine horses from the Da Gan army and, together with his three-hundred-man special forces team, they charged out of Da Gan's borders like a black lightning bolt, heading straight for the rear of Zhou Jianjia's army.

Along the way, the dust kicked up by the horses' hooves blotted out the sky, as if a yellow dragon was winding its way across the land.

The group traveled day and night without stopping, and after two days of pursuit, they finally spotted Zhou Jianjia's grain escort team in the afterglow of the setting sun.
