Chapter 10 How to Respond

Upon hearing this, the older boy perked up and sat up as well.

Hong Xiaoduo pointed to the stars in the night sky above her head: "See that? Those seven stars are connected together, like a spoon. It's called the Big Dipper. You all happen to have seven stars, so we can name ourselves after it."

"Mom? Should I be called One Star? Or Big Star?" the boy asked, barely containing his excitement.

Pfft, Hong Xiaoduo couldn't help but laugh: "What one star, two stars, big stars? Did you see the handle of that spoon? The meaning of the Big Dipper starts from the handle. The first star is the star of power, which can give strength when you encounter difficulties. It is called Tian Shu, so your name is Tian Shu. Do you like it?"

"Tian Shu? Star of Power? Is that my name?" The big boy repeated, somewhat incredulous.

Hong Xiaoduo nodded: "Of course, if you don't like it, I'll think of another one."

"I love it, Mom! I love it! My name is Tian Shu! I have a name now! I have a name of my own!" the boy shouted happily. Hong Xiaoduo shushed him repeatedly, signaling him to be quiet.

But it was too late. The other six children, who were already asleep, were woken up and rubbed their eyes in confusion.

"Mother, what about me?"

"Mom, and me too." They all looked at Hong Xiaoduo with sleepy eyes.

Amused and helpless, Hong Xiaoduo had no choice but to give them names based on the meaning of the Big Dipper: Tianxuan, Tianji, Tianquan, Yuheng, Kaiyang, and Yaoguang.

Yuheng and Xiaobudian Yaoguang are both girls, so their names match quite well.

Hong Xiaoduo hadn't initially intended to mention that Kaiyang Star symbolized misfortune, a harbinger of disaster and greed. However, after thinking about it, she decided it was better to say it now, as deliberately concealing it might have the opposite effect in the future.

Tell Xiao Kaiyang that this star is called Wuqu Star in Taoism, and it also has the meaning of restraint.

So it's not necessarily bad.

Xiao Kaiyang nodded very seriously: "Mother, Kaiyang understands. Keep a kind heart, restrain your greed, and wholeheartedly do good and be a good person."

What a smart and adorable child! Hong Xiaoduo couldn't help but reach out and pat his head.

They all had names, and they excitedly called out each other's names, all their sleepiness gone.

"Alright, it's late, go to sleep. Tomorrow I'll teach you how to write your names." This was the happiest moment since the seven children and one adult met. Hong Xiaoduo was also in a good mood because of the positive atmosphere.

"Mother, what is your name?" Xiao Yaoguang blurted out.

There's nothing to keep secret about this. Hong Xiaoduo smiled and said, "Hong Xiaoduo, Xiao as in 'small' and Duo as in 'flower'."

"Mother, your surname is Hong, so does that mean our surname is Hong too?" Tianxuan asked excitedly, her eyes lighting up.

Huh? This?

This really left Hong Xiaoduo speechless. They didn't have names, so they gave them their own, and now they wanted to share her surname.

It sounds like just a simple surname, but wouldn't that make them think even more that they can follow them forever...?
