Hong Xiaoduo had never said that, but she knew that was what the seven children thought.
Even when she rescued them, she had said that she would find a safe place for them to settle down.
She felt she should have a more formal discussion with them about this issue, even though it sounded cruel and heartless. But she couldn't keep taking them with her indefinitely.
Because she didn't even know when she would have to leave this place, but seeing how excited they were, Hong Xiaoduo sighed inwardly, "Forget it, tonight isn't a good time to talk. Let's find another suitable opportunity!"
"Mother, can't we take your surname?" Xiao Yaoguang asked timidly.
"Isn't it strange that they all take their mother's surname? Shouldn't the surname be the same as the father's or daddy's?" At this point, Hong Xiaoduo patted her forehead. It was already strange that a group of children would call a little girl like her "mother".
Besides, they don't even know where their home is, or who their family is. They're all orphans. Why should I tell them this?
“If you like my surname, then go ahead and use it, but this is only temporary. If, if…” She wanted to say that if someone were willing to adopt you in the future, your surname could be changed again.
But when she looked into the children's clear eyes, she couldn't bring herself to say it.
"I'm sleepy, I'm going to sleep now." I can't keep arguing with them, I have to pretend to be asleep even if I can't.
"From now on, my name will be Hong Tianquan." As soon as Tianquan loudly added his surname, the slightly older children next to him all shushed him, signaling him to be quiet so as not to disturb his mother's sleep.
Hong Xiaoduo was no longer sleepy. After two days of commotion, she was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep amidst the children's suppressed chatter.
In her dream, she arrived at a place that turned out to be the science and technology experience center. Hong Xiaoduo's heart was pounding in her throat. She excitedly went forward, but there was a sign on the door that said "Temporarily Closed." She tried to push the door open, but her hand passed right through it. Hesitantly, she walked through the heavy glass door and went inside.
There was no one in the lobby, so she walked up the steps and saw lights on in the experience cabin and some people.
Passing through the glass door, I saw two people inside: the receptionist from that day and the old curator.
The old curator, wearing glasses, sat in front of the computer console, studying something, while the receptionist made him coffee and brought it over.
"What coffee?" Hong Xiaoduo waved her hand angrily at the cup of coffee, but her hand felt nothing as she passed through it. The steaming coffee was neatly placed on the table next to the old man.
"Teacher, have some coffee to perk yourself up. If you're still feeling unwell, take a rest. You haven't had a break for two days and two nights," the receptionist advised.
Hong Xiaoduo reached out and touched the back of the old man's collar. "You old rascal, you're very wicked. I won't respect your elders today."
Her hand grasped at empty air again. Unwilling to give up, she grabbed at the old man's hair, grabbing and grabbing, as if she were grasping at thin air.
The old man suddenly raised his hand, rubbed his neck, scratched the back of his head, and muttered, "I can't deny that I'm getting old."
After saying that, he picked up his coffee cup and took a few small sips.
Hong Xiaoduo looked at the content on the computer screen, which was all code symbols that she couldn't understand at all.
"Teacher, it's not your fault. It's just that she came at the wrong time. Our procedure wasn't finished yet, and she showed up. If she had waited for you to solve this problem of cross-time communication before coming here, wouldn't it have been better?" The receptionist comforted the old man.
What the hell? This infuriated Hong Xiaoduo. She roughly understood what was going on, so it was her fault?
Unfortunately, she can only vent her anger on thin air now; otherwise, she could have smashed the whole place up.
The old man sighed upon hearing this: "Ah, it's all a matter of chance."
"Opportunity my ass!" Hong Xiaoduo cursed, thinking she had spoken very loudly, but the other person seemed not to hear her at all.
"So, teacher, you should go and rest. Your health is important. It's not easy to find such a perfect chosen one, and you've successfully sent him away. Aren't the things you need to do in the future even more important? You can't overwork yourself, or all your hard work will have been for nothing." Hong Xiaoduo realized that the science museum reception staff were actually this old man's students.
She, Hong Xiaoduo, was that unlucky, perfectly matched chosen one!
Seeing the old man nod and stand up to rest, Hong Xiaoduo anxiously grabbed him, "You old geezer, don't go! Get me back here right now! Otherwise, I'll follow you wherever you go!"
Hong Xiaoduo made up her mind to keep an eye on the old man. Even if she couldn't hit him, she could at least learn more about what the old man's purpose was in tricking her into going to ancient times. However, it seemed like something was pulling her from behind, preventing her from going forward. She watched as she got further and further away from the old man, when a blinding light suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Mother, you're awake?" A childish voice rang in her ears. Hong Xiaoduo focused her gaze and recognized the little head with messy hair in front of her as Yao Guang.
Hong Xiaoduo didn't have time to respond to the little one. She quickly closed her eyes again, wanting to return to the science museum and to the old man's side.
However, after lying there for more than an hour, they still couldn't go back. All they could hear were the children whispering to each other, "Keep your voices down, don't disturb your mother."
She reluctantly opened her eyes; it was already broad daylight. She sat up, and all seven children sat obediently beside her, watching her.
"Mother, why don't you lie down a little longer?" Tian Shu said cautiously in a low voice, noticing that her complexion wasn't good.
Hong Xiaoduo sighed, shook her head, stood up, and walked outside. Looking at the sun overhead, she realized it was almost noon.
"Mom, look, we dug two mouse holes this morning and found a lot of beans and corn kernels. They're already stewing in the pot, and we'll be able to eat them soon," the second daughter, Tianxuan, said ingratiatingly.
