Chapter 284 The Queen’s Decree (1/2)

Inside the cell, only a skylight was open, and a ray of light shone through the small opening, reflecting the undulating dust particles in the air.

As dusk fell, the last ray of light gradually faded into darkness.

The surroundings were oppressively dark, with only occasional screams and curses that made it hard to breathe.

Shen Tangning had her eyes closed until another scream startled her awake, causing her long eyelashes to tremble and lift.

There was no clock here, so she didn't know the exact time. She could only deduce from the sky that it was around 7 PM.

Lord Liu asked her to stay for a while, but then there was no further news. It seemed that he had left her there intentionally or unintentionally for several hours.

Her eyes flickered between light and shadow, a flicker of fire burning within them.

The pitch-black environment always makes people feel anxious and uneasy, but she remained relatively calm, simply because she had spent countless long nights alone.

Outside the cell, a figure was cast on the ground; someone was leaning against the wall.

She took it all in and asked in a calm voice, "When does Lord Liu plan to release me?"

The shadow swayed slightly, slowly approaching the prison door. Shen Tangning looked up, and her eyes deepened when she saw the person's face clearly:

"Chi Jingyu".

Upon closer reflection, it doesn't seem surprising; there are only so many people in Yanjing who have a grudge against her.

However, she was still a little curious, "Weren't you dismissed from your post? How come you can still freely enter and leave the Jingzhao Prefecture?"

It seems that the one-month period has not yet arrived, has it?

Chi Jingyu stared at her intently, then turned his head to signal her, and immediately a jailer came forward to open the door.

A hint of wariness flickered in her eyes as he calmly stepped inside.

A complex look appeared in his eyes, a mixture of resentment and unwillingness: "Was it you who revealed the secret room in my mansion to Chi Yan that day?"

Shen Tangning subtly gripped the hairpin in her hand, staring straight back at him: "So what if it is?"

A cold glint appeared in his eyes, igniting a spark of anger as he slowly stepped forward: "You trust Chi Yan that much? You're even willing to betray me for him?"

With each word he spoke, the anger in his eyes grew stronger. He had been thinking about this matter over and over again these past few days, so you can imagine how much it had affected him.

"Betrayal?" Shen Tangning savored the word, a mocking smirk playing on her lips. "There wasn't much trust between us to begin with, so how can there be any talk of betrayal?"

Chi Jingyu seemed to be provoked by the blunt sarcasm in her eyes. Her chest heaved twice, but she calmed down instead.

“Ah Ning, look at you now that you’re in jail, Chi Yan is helpless.” His eyes softened, and he coaxed her gently, “Here’s what we’ll do: as long as you apologize to me, I can immediately have you released.”

He raised his hand, instinctively wanting to touch her face, but Shen Tangning slapped it away. She stood up, her expression suddenly turning cold: "Chi Jingyu, you're dreaming!"

His expression froze on his face as he watched her resolute stance. The tenderness in his eyes was gradually replaced by obsessive madness. He pursed his lips, suddenly gripped her chin, and said in a deep voice, "You hate me that much that you won't even give me a perfunctory reply?"

Backed into a corner, Shen Tangning frowned deeply. Unable to break free, she glared at him and sneered, "That's right! You did all those things, do you really expect me to be grateful to you?"

His pupils contracted, a flash of pain crossing his eyes, and his tone softened instinctively: "A-Ning, I wronged you before. Whatever you want me to make it up to, just name it, and I'll do it..."
