Chapter 284 The Queen’s Decree (2/2)

"Fine, I want you to die right now, do you dare?" She interrupted him coldly, her clear eyes seeming to see through his hypocrisy. "You don't dare! You keep talking about owing me and feeling guilty, but all you care about is yourself!"

Chi Jingyu paused for a moment, then laughed angrily: "Hate is fine too. Hate lasts longer than love. In time you'll discover my good qualities! What Chi Yan can give you, I can give you as well!"

As soon as he finished speaking, he grabbed her chin and was about to kiss her.

But a sharp pain shot through her chest in an instant. Without hesitation, Shen Tangning plunged the hairpin into his chest. Blood stained her hand and slid down her fair wrist.

As if afraid of his retaliation, she decisively took a few steps back, her clear eyes full of defensiveness.

She used almost all her strength, and the hairpin bent uncontrollably. Chi Jingyu stared at her in disbelief, the pain in his chest wound pale in comparison to the agonizing agony he felt inside: "You..."

Shen Tangning's hands, hanging by her sides, trembled slightly, and her lips turned white from being pressed together. It wasn't fear, but a reaction caused by excessive force: "Your Highness is from a noble family, don't you understand the principle of avoiding suspicion?"

Chi Jingyu staggered forward, when suddenly a cold glint of light grazed his neck, leaving a bloody mark.

The hidden arrow embedded itself straight into the wall, a chill ran down his spine, and he instinctively stopped in his tracks.

His voice, chilling yet firm, declared: "If you dare take another step forward, the injuries will be far more severe than this!"

Chi Jingyu looked up and saw Chi Yan with an icy expression striding into the room, heading straight for Shen Tangning: "Are you injured?"

She snapped out of her daze and shook her head.

Chi Yan lowered his gaze to her chin, his eyes dark and unsettling. Her skin was already fair, making the red finger marks on it all the more glaring.

Shen Tangning wanted to hide her blood-stained hands so that she wouldn't appear so cruel in his eyes.

A moment later, her wrist tightened, and she was pulled into Chi Yan's arms, her eyes glazed over, as he grabbed her waist and pulled her into his embrace, a gesture that asserted his dominance.

Chi Yan narrowed his eyes and looked at Chi Jingyu, his tone sarcastic: "I will protect my own wife, so there is no need for others to worry about her!"

He glanced at the bewildered Shen Tangning, shoved the cold object into her hand, and slowly tightened his grip, scoffing with an ambiguous meaning, "Next time someone dares to touch you, just stab this thing into their chest. If anything bad happens, I'll take responsibility!"

It was also his fault; he forgot to teach her how to guard against backstabbers.

She glanced down and saw a hidden arrow in her sleeve.

After trying it out, she couldn't help but think to herself that this thing was much better than a hairpin, at least it wasn't easily deformed.

Chi Jingyu's expression shifted unpredictably as he spoke mockingly, "Openly breaking into the prison and taking someone away, what, are you trying to obstruct the Jingzhao Prefecture's investigation?"

When Lord Liu arrived in a hurry and saw the scene in the prison cell, he was so shocked that his eyes widened and he was completely bewildered.

Chi Yan chuckled slowly, but it was laced with hostility: "Lord Liu, you explain to him."

Lord Liu looked at Chi Jingyu and chuckled awkwardly, "By imperial decree of the Empress, Young Madam Chi is to be summoned to the palace for an audience."

The Empress herself asked for the person, so how could he possibly keep him detained?

Chi Jingyu's face immediately turned extremely ugly.

He completely forgot about the Empress!

Chi Yan raised his eyes with a half-smile: "Well, now I can take the person away?"
