Shen Xiwei is dead.
The day after Shen Tangning visited her.
It is an indisputable fact that she murdered the Lady Hou. The Hou family did not want to drag things out and ordered that she be dealt with as soon as possible to comfort the Lady Hou's spirit in heaven.
So everything was kept simple, without any formalities, and she was strangled to death with a white silk ribbon.
Aunt Fang was watching the execution. She struggled so violently that the jailers, annoyed by her crying and fussing, simply gagged her and pinned her to the ground.
She watched helplessly as the executioners entered Shen Xiwei's cell. Shen Xiwei looked terrified and tried to back away, but there was a wall behind her, and she had nowhere to retreat.
She tried desperately to break out of the cell, but she was no match for his strength and was dragged back by her hair. Shen Xi let out a soft scream and instinctively cried out for help: "Auntie, save me!"
Although she had accepted her fate, fear was her instinctive reaction when death truly arrived.
But how could Aunt Fang possibly save her?
She was grabbed from behind and strangled. She clutched the white silk ribbon around her neck in pain, but could not resist the suffocating feeling brought on by the slow tightening.
The jailer was very impatient, muttering under his breath, "If you had known this would happen, why did you do it in the first place! If you had behaved yourself, you would have suffered less and had a quicker journey!"
"Uh..." Shen Xiwei could no longer speak, her eyes rolled back, and her legs kicked weakly on the ground.
"Waaah!" Aunt Fang's eyes were bloodshot, but the shackles behind her prevented her from breaking free. She could only slam her head against the ground repeatedly, breaking her head in the process.
Her face flushed red, and tears streamed down her face. She turned her head and glanced with difficulty in the direction of Aunt Fang. Tears of regret slid down her cheeks. She seemed to want to say something, but she couldn't say anything.
Finally, she slumped her head helplessly and fell completely still.
"Ugh... Xiwei! Xiwei! Let her go!" Fang Yiniang, who had broken free of her restraints, scrambled forward, but could only watch helplessly as Xiwei was swept away by a straw mat.
As she tried to chase after him, the jailer kicked her, yelling, "Go back and stay put!"
Aunt Fang was kicked and fell to the ground. The next room became empty again, with only the traces of her struggle on the ground indicating what had happened.
Her eyes were bloodshot, as if she wanted to cry until she had no tears left; her fingernails broke off at the root during the struggle; her expression was numb as she clenched her fists.
Shen Tangning, Shen Chang, I will make you pay the price!
She tore off the lining of her skirt, bit her finger, and wrote something on it...
——
"Father, the arrangements for my second sister's funeral..."
Shen Tangning had just started to speak when Shen Chang interrupted her with a frown: "Don't mention her. She did such a heinous thing and disgraced my Shen family. Just pretend I never had this daughter!"
A married daughter cannot be buried in her parents' home. Shen Xiwei had no children and had committed such a crime, so she could not be buried in the Chi family either. Her final fate was nothing more than being wrapped in a straw mat and thrown into a mass grave.
Shen Tangning had only mentioned it casually to test his thoughts, but Shen Chang's cold attitude still made her feel a little chilly.
When he loved Shen Xiwei dearly, he wanted nothing more than to snatch the best things from her and give them to her. Now that she is dead, he not only didn't shed a single tear, but he also didn't even go to see her in person.
It really is... terrifyingly cold-blooded and ruthless.
"Father, please calm down. Don't upset yourself." Shen Tangning lowered her eyes, her expression calm and gentle.
When Shen Chang turned his head and saw her like this, he couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. He had treated Fang and her daughter with all his heart, but he had neglected his own eldest daughter, which had caused their relationship to become distant.
In the end, she was still the most considerate.
He coughed softly, his tone heavy with sorrow: "Tang Ning, because of Xiwei in the past, I neglected many of your feelings. Now you are my only daughter."
