Chapter 40 Questioning and Accusing (2/2)

Chi Yan was taken aback: "That's it?"

She looked at him questioningly: "What else could it be?"

"..." Chi Yan looked around guiltily. "Haha, it's nothing, a piece of cake. I'll go get him right away!"

He finished speaking and then hurriedly turned and left.

Shen Tangning was completely confused.

Upon hearing the general outline of the events, Granny Qin was furious: "What does Miss intend to do with that old man?"

Shen Tangning's lips curled up, her eyes turning slightly cold: "This is the Lady of the Marquis's person. I have no right to deal with your young lady."

Granny Qin snorted coldly: "Hiring someone to harm their master—such a servant should be handed over to the authorities! How can the Lady of the Marquis protect her as she pleases?"

She curtsied, her eyes shining brightly. "Miss, please rest and recover. This is no small matter that requires your personal intervention."

Shen Tangning smiled and said, "Then I'll trouble you, Granny."

She can't do anything to the Third Prince for the time being, but can't she even touch a steward in the Chi family?

He's going to take the blame for this today!

...

Butler Wang had been restless ever since he learned that Shen Tangning had returned to the mansion.

Didn't we agree to send it back tomorrow morning?

Why aren't those people following the rules?!

Unless something goes wrong along the way!

His heart was pounding, and he suddenly regretted his impulsive actions. What if those thugs betrayed him?

The more he thought about it, the more alarmed he became. Butler Wang promptly packed his things, planning to feign illness and go home to hide for a couple of days!

I was only halfway through tidying up when there was a knock on the door, and the servant Ah Hui's voice came through:

"Butler Wang, are you free right now?"

He was so upset right now that he had no time to care about anything else.

"Go away, go away, your prince is busy!"

Ah Hui glanced at the Second Young Master, whose expression was inscrutable. He saw a cryptic smile playing on the corners of the Second Young Master's lips, but his eyes were icy cold.

With a loud bang, the door was kicked open from the outside. Wang, the butler, was startled and, before he could even see what was happening, instinctively cursed, "You bastard, are you trying to get yourself killed?!"

Immediately afterward, a tall and slender figure strode into the room. As he recognized who it was, he was also kicked solidly in the chest!

Butler Wang was kicked to the ground. Chi Yan grabbed his collar, leaned down and smiled lazily: "You dog, take a good look at who your grandpa is?"

Butler Wang was terrified: "Second, Second Young Master!"

...

On the way to the main courtyard, as Chi Yan took Steward Wang, the man kept shouting, "Second Young Master, I am Madam's man, you have no right to treat me like this!"

This display of force attracted considerable attention.

Chi Yan turned around impatiently, his thin eyelids drooping, a faint hint of malice in his eyes. He suddenly smiled and said, "Fine, then go find someone who can deal with you."

Upon arriving at the East Courtyard, Lady Hou had already heard the commotion. She glared coldly at Chi Yan as he brought people in, her heart filled with rage: "Do all of you think I'm a pushover?"

As Chi Yan entered to pay his respects, she couldn't hold back any longer and coldly curled her lips: "Brother Yan, what a grand entrance you've made! You've come to my courtyard with my men, acting all high and mighty, like you're here to interrogate me. Whose face are you trying to slap?"

Jiang, the old nanny beside Lady Hou, also said solemnly, "Second Young Master, it's one thing for you to be unreliable on a regular basis, and Lady Hou doesn't hold it against you, but how could you do something so absurd? This servant must dare to ask the Second Master how he disciplines his son!"

Chi Yan wasn't oblivious to her sarcasm. He straightened up, unperturbed, and said with a playful look in his eyes, "Madam, please don't take offense. This is an emergency, and I had no choice but to do this. Otherwise, if the Prefect of the Capital came to demand my person, the entire Chi family would lose face!"
