Chapter 420 Chi Yan is Dead (2/2)

She practically fled out the door in a panic. Tang Mama grabbed her, closing the door behind her while scolding her sternly in a low voice, "Don't you dare misunderstand! How dare we servants interfere in our masters' affairs?"

There was a subtle hint of schadenfreude in her tone, "If you ask me, the young master treats her so well, why is she putting on airs? There's a limit to how much you can manipulate someone!"

Qinglan opened her mouth, wanting to say that it wasn't like that, that the madam was clearly forced...

They were all accomplices. She looked utterly dejected and was shoved by Granny Tang: "Go, go, go to sleep!"

Inside, as she watched the door close again, Shen Tangning's eyes darkened. She knew no one would come to help her. This courtyard was full of Chi Jingyu's people, and she could only try to save herself.

She calmed down and looked at the person in front of her, secretly weighing the possibility of her taking him down. Chi Jingyu was just a weak scholar, so she still had a certain chance.

But no matter what, he was still a man, and with his natural physical strength, she could only resort to surprise.

"Why are you acting crazy here so late at night instead of sleeping?"

She tried to distract him, but thankfully the darkness of the night gave her cover.

Chi Jingyu seemed to have drunk quite a bit; he reeked of alcohol, his throat was hoarse, and he stared intently at her.

"Ah Ning, you're finally mine."

Shen Tangning subconsciously frowned, a mocking look in her eyes: "I think you're quite drunk!"

Chi Jingyu didn't mind her coldness. He took a step closer to her, his eyes burning with undisguised fervor: "I've said it before, we're a match made in heaven, even the heavens are on my side..."

She instinctively felt there was a hidden meaning in his words, and his continued approaching movements left her no time to be distracted: "Don't come any closer!"

Perhaps it was the resistance in her tone that angered Chi Jingyu. His face darkened, and he bent down, grabbed her ankle, and pulled her towards him. He pressed down on her shoulder and glared at her fiercely: "Do you hate me that much? I apologize for what happened in the past, but if it weren't for Shen Xiwei, how could we have missed each other for so many years? I've already killed her, and nothing can stand between us anymore!"

Shen Tangning, trying to calm her breathing, asked, "Do you really think this is all Shen Xiwei's fault?"

Her laughter was so sarcastic, like a sword piercing straight into his heart. "Chi Jingyu, stop making excuses for yourself. You've been the culprit from beginning to end! You schemed against the Xie family behind my back, deceived me into raising your and Shen Xiwei's child, and even let Shen Xiwei kill me. You're the one who deserves to die the most!"

He trembled violently, a hint of panic flashing in his eyes. He raised his hand as if to touch her face, but Shen Tangning dodged it.

"Ah Ning, I can atone for my sins... Could you please give me a chance?"

Shen Tangning thought coldly, "Only your death can atone for my sins."

Her silence sent a sharp, piercing pain through Chi Jingyu's heart. He gripped her chin tightly, his teeth clenched, and he demanded, trembling, "Even if I have a thousand faults, how could you fall in love with Chi Yan?"

"Why can't I fall in love with him?" Shen Tangning touched something with her fingertips and grasped it without making a sound. Her voice was very soft. "Because Chi Yan is worthy of love. He is not like you, selfish, cold-blooded and ruthless. Falling in love with him would be an easy thing."

Chi Jingyu's eyes turned bloodshot at these words, and his emotions suddenly surged. He gripped her chin even tighter and laughed heavily, almost retaliating as he whispered in her ear, "But you loved him so much, and yet he still died."

Shen Tangning's breath hitched: "...What did you say?"

Chi Jingyu laughed hoarsely: "You don't know yet, do you? Today, an urgent report came from Jiangzhou that Chi Yan was ambushed and shot with several arrows, and died from his injuries."

A muffled clap of thunder suddenly sounded, and lightning illuminated her pale face, as well as the trembling in her eyes.

Chi Yan is dead!
