Chi Jingyu chuckled softly, as if that wasn't enough: "There's a traitor among the people he took with him. From the moment he left the capital, someone didn't want him to come back alive."
He whispered in her ear with a hint of pity, "Don't you understand? He was destined to die."
Whether it's a past life or this life.
Shen Tangning's mind went blank for a moment. For a while, all she could hear was a long white noise and her own slightly rapid breathing, as if it were covered with tiny ice shards that she swallowed into her lungs.
"And what about you?"
When Chi Jingyu heard her icy voice ask, he didn't react for a moment, "Why don't you just die?"
A chill swept down the back of his neck; his drunkenness slowed his reaction by a beat, and almost as soon as she finished speaking, a sharp pain shot through his chest.
Shen Tangning forcefully pulled out the hairpin, pushed him away, and then picked up the jade pillow and smashed it hard against him. The blow was swift and fierce.
She calmly lowered her eyes and thought to herself, "This thing isn't entirely useless."
Hit on the back of the head, Chi Jingyu felt dizzy and lightheaded. Warm liquid wet the back of his neck. He groaned and was ruthlessly pushed to the ground by Shen Tangning, unable to stand up for a moment.
She stood up, walked past him, and went out the door.
Hearing a loud bang, Tang Mama's heart tightened instinctively, but she didn't dare to go in to check. She just hid under the eaves and peered around furtively.
Suddenly someone pushed the door open and came out. She thought it was Chi Jingyu, but she didn't expect to see Shen Tangning. She looked like a pale ghost. When she met her emotionless gaze, Tang Mama was instinctively startled.
She soon noticed that her hand was still dripping blood, or more precisely, the hairpin in her hand.
Tang Mama's pupils contracted, and she was about to scream, but Shen Tangning glanced at her and said calmly, "Carry him out."
"What have you done to the young master?!" Tang Mama asked incredulously. She turned and ran into the house, followed by a scream from inside!
Soon the house was brightly lit, and people were busy coming and going. Shen Tangning sat under the eaves, quietly watching the damp rain. The broken beads of rain fell straight down, blooming into flowers in the courtyard.
Qinglan watched her secretly from the side, feeling both anxious and worried.
After Chi Jingyu was surrounded and her wounds were bandaged, Tang Mama's words implied that she would not let Shen Tangning off easily, and she even wanted the guards to bring her in to admit her mistake.
Chi Jingyu's face was very gloomy, and he suddenly looked at her: "Since when did it become your turn to speak?"
Granny Tang was startled and immediately shut her mouth.
He was extremely frustrated, and the effects of the alcohol had long since worn off. He suddenly stood up and walked outside. When he got outside, he saw Shen Tangning sitting quietly under the eaves. She didn't even give him a glance.
Does she really like Chi Yan that much?
The pain in the back of his head reminded him of what had just happened. Chi Jingyu's eyes turned cold, and he pursed his lips, silently walking into the rain.
He knew it would be hard for her to accept it right away, but she would get used to it sooner or later!
Chi Jingyu left.
Qinglan came to Shen Tangning's side and gestured anxiously to her, probably advising her to go inside because it was cold outside.
Shen Tangning didn't react at all. Her eyelashes were wet with mist, making it hard to tell whether it was rain or tears.
She inexplicably felt that the lady must be very sad at this moment, so she paused for a moment, then quietly stepped aside and did not disturb her any further.
...
Shen Tangning sat there until dawn, her posture unchanged.
