Ba Liang led Ji Wuyai and Tang Xu into the study.
Seeing Chi Yan lounging in a chair reading a book, the two looked at each other in bewilderment.
Ji Wuyai stepped forward with his head down, and said awkwardly, "Ayan, are you reading?"
Chi Yan looked up and raised her lips slightly: "You're here? Have a seat."
He pointed to the side, but the two people didn't move.
Ji Wuyai hesitated for a moment, then steeled his heart and said, "Ayan, why don't you beat me up?"
Chi Yan raised an eyebrow slightly in surprise: "What are you doing?"
“If I hadn’t dragged you to see the spectacle that day, you wouldn’t have ended up in jail.” Ji Wuyai lowered his head, his fingers unconsciously twisting together, his expression increasingly guilty. “I know you’re upset and don’t want us to lose our brotherhood. As long as you can vent your anger, you can do whatever you want!”
Tang Xu remained silent for a moment before stepping forward as well: "Chi Er, we do bear some responsibility. See if you can help us vent our anger. We have no complaints..."
Chi Yan scrutinized the two for a moment, then suddenly sneered, "Have you two taken the wrong medicine today? I've never heard of such a request before. Wasn't what happened that night an accident?"
Ji Wuyai was stunned for a moment: "An accident may be an accident, but ultimately we also bear some responsibility..."
Chi Yan stood up, clenched his fist and punched each of them on the shoulder, a lazy smile curving his lips. "Alright, I wasn't actually hurt, so don't make that mournful face, it's really unlucky!"
Ji Wuyai rubbed his shoulders, his eyes lighting up: "You really don't blame us?"
Tang Xu's face also showed a hint of hesitation.
Chi Yan's eyes flickered slightly as he glanced at them meaningfully: "Aren't we good brothers?"
Ji Wuyai breathed a sigh of relief, rushed over and hugged Chi Yan, his eyes brimming with tears as he pounded Chi Yan's shoulder: "You scared me to death! I haven't been able to sleep well for the past two days!"
Tang Xu remained reserved and demure, merely gazing at the two with a moved expression, without making any move.
"Chi Er, it's great that you don't blame us! The three of us can dominate Yanjing together again!"
Chi Yan curled her lips and pushed Ji Wuyai away with a look of disgust: "So cheesy! Doesn't it make you sick?"
He turned his back, his eyes calm and unwavering, a slight smile playing on his lips as he said, seemingly unintentionally:
"By the way, I heard from Lord Liu that Pingting's case is not so simple."
Ji Wuyai and Tang Xu were immediately drawn to these words.
"What do you mean? Didn't the Jingzhao Prefecture say that Pingting committed suicide because of love?"
Chi Yan turned around and saw the two looking at him with curiosity. He lowered his voice mysteriously and said, "That's just what they say to the public, to appease the people. In fact, Pingting learned some unknown secrets and was forced to commit suicide!"
Ji Wuyai took a deep breath, his eyes wide with shock: "Really?"
Tang Xu was skeptical, but instinctively pressed for an answer: "What secret?"
Chi Yan glanced at him, straightened up, and smiled casually: "How would I know? It involves court secrets, and Lord Liu wouldn't tell me every little detail!"
After he finished speaking, he lay back down in the chair as if he had no bones, crossed his legs, and said in a mocking tone, "Do you really think you, Second Young Master, are some kind of extraordinary person?"
Tang Xu paused for a moment, then nodded: "That makes sense. Such an important matter shouldn't be told to outsiders casually."
Ji Wuyai couldn't help but click his tongue: "Chi Er, you're just an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire this time!"
“Isn’t that right?” Chi Yan’s eyes were cryptic. “When gods fight, mortals suffer.”
"What a pity for Miss Pingting! Beautiful women have always had tragic fates; the ancients were right!" Ji Wuyai's gaze shifted, and he exclaimed in surprise, "Chi Yan, the autumn imperial examinations are almost here, and you're still reading storybooks!"
Tang Xu looked over and caught sight of an open notebook on the table.
