Chapter 66 It Was Him All Along (2/2)

Chi Yan frowned slightly: "Can you keep your voice down, kid? If Shen Tangning finds out, she'll go complain to my mother again!"

Ji Wuyai glanced around furtively, lowered his voice, and said with a tone of exasperation, "Even I know to cram at the last minute, you should at least put some effort into it, even if you're just pretending!"

"Snacks?" Chi Yan suddenly realized. "You want some snacks? I have plenty, take as many as you like."

"..."

Ji Wuyai wanted to bang his head on the ground, his eyes filled with a heartbroken look that said, "You're hopeless."

Tang Xu couldn't help but chuckle: "Brother Chi is balancing work and rest, so don't make things difficult for him."

The two stayed for about half an hour before taking their leave.

Chi Yan had Ba Liang escort the two out. The smile in his eyes slowly faded, and he sat expressionlessly at the table for a long time before picking up a pen and writing a name on a piece of paper.

Its power penetrates the paper, its killing intent is subtle yet palpable.

He examined it for a while, then suddenly narrowed his eyes and curled his lips slightly.

It was him.

When Ba Liang returned after seeing the person off, he glanced at the words on the paper and paused. After studying them for a while, he asked with a puzzled expression, "Why did you write Young Master Tang's name on the paper, sir?"

As Chi Yan's servant and page, he had learned a few characters from him.

Chi Yan crumpled the paper into a ball and tossed it aside casually, his voice tinged with amusement: "There are just some things I can't figure out. But it doesn't matter, there's no need to seek answers to everything."

Ba Liang seemed to understand but not quite, when he saw his young master get up and walk outside.

Shen Tangning was looking at the account book. She had several shops in her dowry and would check the accounts from time to time. Hearing the noise, she didn't even look up: "Does my husband already have the answer?"

Chi Yan pursed her lips: "Yes, and no."

She paused.

These words seemed nonsensical, but she understood them nonetheless.

Shen Tangning put down the ledger, raised her head, and slowly relaxed her brows and eyes: "Don't understand the other party's motives? That's okay. You just need to remember that the moment the other party decided to betray you, they no longer considered you a friend, so you don't need to care about old feelings."

Chi Yan's eyes flickered with emotion, and he curled his lips in self-deprecation: "I just don't understand, am I really that bad?"

He considers himself generous and magnanimous, and also loyal to his friends.

Especially Ji Wuyai and Tang Xu, who were his best friends when he came here. They shared both good times and bad times, and built a deep friendship, but in the end, this is what happened to them.

Shen Tangning's eyes flickered slightly, and she looked at him calmly: "Since you have a clear conscience, then the ones who should reflect on themselves and feel guilty are others. Did they hesitate when they were trying to harm you?"

Chi Yan's mind cleared instantly, and he nodded solemnly and slowly: "I understand."

Shen Tangning rested her chin on her hand and tilted her head to look at him, looking rather relaxed. She blinked gently and asked, "So, what does my husband plan to do?"

Under her persuasive gaze, he became resolute, and his tone turned cold: "An eye for an eye."

Shen Tangning laughed, her eyes crinkling: "You're a promising student."

Chi Yan's ears inexplicably felt slightly hot.

There was a sudden moment of hesitation.

Wait a minute, he used to say that Shen Tangning was a man-eating flower.

"..."
