Chapter 3

Chapter 3

"Did you fall?"

Qin Mian grabbed Song Shu by the scruff of the neck and lifted the whole squirrel to a position parallel to his line of sight, carefully examining the little squirrel to see if it was injured.

"Gu!"

Song Shu twisted his body, desperately struggling with his hands and feet in the air, trying to swing himself out of Qin Mian's fingers.

You damn grain thief, who allowed you to carry it in such a shameful way!

"Gu!"

Grandpa Song, I'm angry!

"Don't make a fuss."

Raising his hand to touch the squirrel's chin soothingly, Qin Mian put Song Shu on the bed and let the noisy little squirrel punch and kick him for a while before he guessed, "Could it be that it's hungry again?"

Are you hungry?

Song Shu narrowed his eyes dangerously, wondering if the grain thief had hidden more grain. After all, the peanuts and hazelnuts from yesterday were just a drop in the bucket compared to Song Shu's storage.

Thinking of this, Song Shu shook his beard on one side, squinted his eyes and looked at Qin Mian, and said confidently: "Gu!"

Hungry!

"You're welcome, Zhenzhen."

Qin Mian thought to himself: I don’t know if this little squirrel running around has a bad brain. It’s snowing now and it’s hard to find food outside, but he is not polite at all to the person who feeds him, and he is not afraid that I will throw him out.

But it's a quiet place here, so it seems nice to have a lively little squirrel as a companion.

“No eating in bed.”

Qin Mian put his legs down, stretched out a hand towards Song Shu, and said gracefully: "The bed is too high from the ground, and your legs are too short to get down. I will take you to the table."

Who has short legs!

Song Shu's hair stood on end with rage, his ear hairs stood up clearly, and his eyes, like black beans, were emitting two flames. If Qin Mian could understand the rat language, he would have been scolded to death by now.

His legs are not short!

Song Shu sharpened his hind paws, exerted force with all four paws, and suddenly took a running start... heading towards the bedpost. The nails on the tip of a squirrel's paws are not just for looks, but are particularly useful when scratching wood.

Slowly sucking the bedpost and crawling to the ground, Song Shu glanced at Qin Mian with contempt, as if to say, "Do I still need your help with such a small matter?"

Qin Mian praised politely, "Amazing."

The man and the mouse returned to the window. Song Shu climbed onto the table by sucking on the table legs. Seeing that Qin Mian was slow to take out the food, he couldn't help but knock on the table to urge him.

"Gu?"

Where is this mouse’s food?

"What an impatient person."

Qin Mian chuckled and took off the storage ring from his index finger. Then Song Shu was surprised to find that the grain thief actually took out five walnuts from the small ring.

!

What a treasure this is!

Rat never seen before!

Song Shu closed his eyes and sniffed, and found that the five walnuts also had his scent. He said that he had saved so much food, but it was only one day away and there was no way the thieves could eat it all!

Now it seems that they have all been hidden by grain thieves.

"Yes, this is all you can eat this morning."

Qin Mian was wary of the little squirrel's behavior last night, not knowing whether it was hungry or full, so he didn't dare to take more. He was afraid that the little thing would put all the food into its stomach and make him unable to move.

However, Song Shu was not someone who was easily dismissed. The grain thief had taken so much grain from him, but now he only gave him five walnuts to get rid of him.

I can tolerate turtles, but I can’t tolerate squirrels!

Pulling at the hem of his clothes, Song Shu stepped on Qin Mian's thigh and ran towards his arm step by step. Then he jumped onto his hand wearing the storage ring and stretched out his claws to grab Qin Mian's ring.

He wants to take back the lost food!

Seeing Song Shu snatching the ring, Qin Mian didn't care, and even took the initiative to hand the ring to him. After all, the storage ring recognizes its owner and cannot be opened without his permission, and it will not be lost at will.

If the little thing is curious, just let it see it.

After Song Shu got the ring, he shook it like Qin Mian did, looking at the table expectantly, hoping to shake out all his food.

The result is of course -

Nothing.

"Gu?"

Why can't he shake it out?

"Don't be greedy," Qin Mian said with a chuckle, stroking the squirrel's ear hair. "Forget how uncomfortable I felt last night. Eat the walnuts first."

Song Shu:!

The grain thief is playing with a rat!

Throwing the ring away angrily, Song Shu turned around and started to chew on the five lonely walnuts. Perhaps because he was too angry, the sound he made when chewing was very loud, which made Qin Mian feel like a squirrel was chewing on his flesh.

"What a bad temper."

With a slight hook of his index finger, the storage ring on the ground returned to Qin Mian's hand. He poked the little squirrel's cheek with his fingertips and said coaxingly with a smile: "I have a lot of spiritual food here. Do you want to spend the winter here before leaving?"

I know it without you telling me!

Turning his face away from the fingertips poking his cheek, Song Shu glared at Qin Mian angrily and bit a walnut kernel fiercely.

He won't leave until all the food is recovered!

"Gu!"

Perhaps because he was thinking too hard, Song Shu's attention was not on eating, and he accidentally choked.

A walnut kernel was stuck in Song Shu's throat. He tried to swallow it but couldn't. As breathing became more and more difficult, a hand suddenly patted the back of his neck, and then a huge walnut kernel came out.

"Tell you to eat slowly."

It seemed that it didn't expect that this squirrel could not only eat itself to death, but also choke itself. Such a stupid little thing didn't know how to survive outside.

Qin Mian pushed open the window, moved his index finger and middle finger slightly, and the teacup on the table flew out of the window, caught a cup of falling snow, and flew back.

Qin Mian tapped the teacup with two fingers, and then the cup of snow turned into a cup of warm and clear water.

"Drink some water to moisten your throat. Don't let it get stuck."

Song Shu grabbed the cup without hesitation, held the base of the teacup with his two paws, tilted his head back and drank the snow water clean. When the dryness in his throat dissipated, he put down the cup and stared at Qin Mian thoughtfully.

The grain thief can steal objects from the air and turn cold snow into hot water with his bare hands.

Not to be underestimated.

He needs to observe the grain thief's weaknesses more carefully, otherwise it will be difficult to take revenge.

Seeing that the squirrel had stopped barking and its black eyes were rolling around, Qin Mian knew at a glance that it was thinking of something bad again. He knocked the squirrel on the forehead and said unhappily, "Eat quickly. If you make trouble again, I will throw you out."

Throw me?

Song Shu shook his beard with disdain.

The grain thief's lair will not move away, and even if he is driven away, he can find an opportunity to come back.

Qin Mian was also at a loss. This little squirrel refused to listen to any persuasion. Except for the time when it was eating food, it seemed quite smart at other times and it was not completely unable to understand human language.

If it is tamed more, it will surely become a wise squirrel in the future.

The warm palm slid from the squirrel's head to its fluffy tail. Qin Mian squinted his eyes comfortably. It was so smooth and shiny that the squirrel could grow its fur in the mountains. If the squirrel ate less, it would not be able to have such a feeling.

Thinking of this, Qin Mian easily accepted Song Shu's greedy behavior, and even felt that it was a little cute.

"Gu!"

Grain thieves, don’t touch mice!

Song Shu moved to another place with the walnuts he had not finished eating. Seeing that there was one walnut left that he could not hold, he kicked it away. After all, he could not let the grain thief take it back.

"Be good at protecting your food."

Qin Mian wasn't angry either. He pulled out a chair and sat down, spreading his right hand on the table. He said to the little squirrel that was staring at him like a thief, "I haven't asked you yet. If you're willing to stay, touch my hand. If not, I'll send you away after you finish this breakfast."

Send away?

Song Shu was stunned for a moment, then glared at Qin Mian with anger.

The grain thief wants to get rid of him!

No way!

Looking at Qin Mian who was calm and composed, Song Shu looked at his hands spread out on the table. After hesitating for a while, he moved over carefully.

Afraid that the grain thief would touch his fur again, Song Shu cautiously stretched out his leg little by little, then quickly touched Qin Mian's hand with his toes, and quickly retracted it. Then he shook his foot in disgust, as if he was very disgusted with the touch with Qin Mian.

"It would be fine if I didn't dislike you, but you dislike me instead."

Qin Mian laughed and shook his head. "Forget it. Why would I argue with you? But since you promised, you should...be a little more well-behaved in the future. You can see that my house is very poor. If I break something, it will be difficult to buy a new one."

Seeing Song Shu's face full of dissatisfaction, Qin Mian paused, then said in a compromising manner: "If the damage is not too serious, I can fix it."

Squirrels are active by nature and need to sharpen their teeth and claws. It would be too much to completely confine them and not allow them to play.

But since he was determined to keep this lively and active squirrel, he had to give it a name first. Qin Mian pondered for a while and suddenly said, "I'll give you a name now. How about Qin Hui?"

Since he was going to be the owner of the squirrel, he should naturally have the same surname as him. Moreover, Song Shu had gray hair, so Qin Hui was the most appropriate name.

Song Shu:?

What an ugly name!

"Gu!"

don't want.

"Coo! Coo!"

Grandpa, my name is Song Shu.

Song Shu felt that compared to Qin Mian, Old Turtle was far more talented. One could tell what kind of animal he was just by hearing his name, and he also had a rather bookish air.

It's nothing like the name Qin Mian came up with, it's so rustic, like the name of a country bumpkin who has lived in seclusion in the mountains for many years.

"like?"

Seeing the little squirrel's enthusiastic response, Qin Mian happily called out, "Qin Hui, come here."

Song Shu: ...

Thinking that the little squirrel didn't understand, Qin Mian waved to Song Shu again, and shouted expectantly: "Qin Hui, come here."

Song Shu: ...

The little squirrel froze and stared at Qin Mian with a dead look on its face. There was an indescribable contempt and disgust in its eyes. Even if Qin Mian wanted to pretend not to understand, it would be difficult.

That's strange.

A mere squirrel dared to question his taste. After hesitating for a moment, Qin Mian asked, "You think Qin Hui doesn't sound good? Then what's a good name? I can't keep calling you a squirrel."

Unexpectedly, the squirrel's eyes suddenly lit up, and he nodded his chin proudly, as if to say, "That's the name, it suits me."

"Is it really called Squirrel?"

Qin Mian said with a smile: "Your name is not as nice as mine."

Perhaps someone had fed the little squirrel before, and often called it "squirrel, squirrel", so the little squirrel actually regarded it as its name.

"Gu!"

Song Shu sounds good!

"Forget it, I'll just call you Squirrel from now on." Qin Mian raised his lips, looking at the squirrel who was about to throw a tantrum with gentle eyes: "Don't lose your temper so often."

Song Shu: "Gu!"

Just get angry!

The author has something to say:

----------------------

Song Shu: What an ugly name for a grain thief.

Qin Mian: I think it’s okay.
