Chapter 17 Fire

Upon hearing this, Wen Xingming's face turned deathly pale, and a chill ran down his spine: "What will happen if you cling to me?"

"I'll pester you until you die a violent death."

Wen Xingming was so frightened that he couldn't say a word.

“But you don’t need to worry too much.” Wen Li lowered her eyes slightly, and in the next moment, she threw the Buddha statue to the ground, and the statue shattered into pieces instantly.

Wen Li said calmly, "Just kill it."

Wen Xingming: "..."

Wen Xingming subconsciously looked at the Buddha statue that was already shattered into pieces. His back was soaked with sweat. He belatedly realized, "Is this okay? Also, I've been having a lot of bad luck lately. Is it because of this Buddha statue?"

Wen Li nodded: "That's right, Meng Chen used this to transfer the fortune that originally belonged to you to him."

"I have no grudge against him!" Wen Xingming clenched his fists tightly, his eyes bloodshot.

He really couldn't understand why Meng Chen would do this.

Is it simply because of jealousy?

At that time, Meng Chen's resources in the entertainment industry were not bad. If he had worked hard for another two years, he could have gained a foothold in the entertainment industry as well.

Why would Meng Chen do this?

Wen Li instantly recalled what Zhou Xingyun had told her: never underestimate human nature.

"The evil artifact is shattered, and all the good fortune will slowly return to you. It's just that it has been with you for too long. Let Dad and Big Brother go out and get some sun."

As Wen Li spoke, she squatted down and picked up the fragments of the Buddha statue, saying, "I need to take this back and deal with it."

Wen Xingming couldn't wait for Wen Li to send this plague away as soon as possible.

Wen Li still had to deal with the Buddha statue issue, and eventually returned to the hotel overnight.

However, just as the two were saying goodbye at the elevator door, Wen Li noticed that the death aura on Wen Xingming was getting worse.

Wen Li frowned, wondering if the deathly aura on Wen Xingming's body had nothing to do with this Buddha statue.

With that in mind, Wen Li paid even closer attention to Wen Xingming's situation.

Fortunately, everything went smoothly after that, and nothing went wrong.

Meng Chen, on the other hand, has been having a lot of bad luck these past few days. The crew is complaining about his various behaviors, which is a stark contrast to when filming started.

Summers in City A are already hot, let alone outdoors in the sweltering heat. Everyone was wearing short sleeves and sweat was dripping down their faces, but Meng Chen on set was still getting one NG after another.

Meng Chen was also anxious, but he didn't think too much about it.

He looked apologetically at everyone: "It's probably because the weather is too hot that I'm not in good shape. Everyone, please bear with it and let's do it again."

Immediately, someone in the crowd let out a disheartened voice.

The entire crew was dragged down by Meng Chen. Apart from saying sorry, Meng Chen didn't even offer them a glass of water in this hot weather.

Fan Tong couldn't stand it anymore and said, "The outdoor temperature is 40 degrees Celsius today. Everyone should rest this afternoon. We'll shoot a few night scenes tonight when it's cooler."

Meng Chen's face turned extremely pale upon hearing this, but he could only suppress his anger.

But as soon as he got back to his hotel room, he vented his frustrations on his assistant.

I thought Meng Chen would be in better condition in the evening, but in the end he was still about the same as during the day.

"What's wrong with Meng Chen these past two days? Wasn't his acting very good before? How come he can't even pass such a simple scene?"

"Yeah, it's already 3 a.m., and we've only filmed two takes. I really want to go back and rest."

"Forget about it, we're probably going to be up all night tonight."

"..."

Hearing the whispers of the staff around him, Meng Chen's face instantly darkened.

He was curious to know what was going on.

In the past, a single shot would satisfy both the director and the audience, but now even the simplest scene requires repeated filming.

As expected, the three scenes were filmed from night until 5 a.m. the next day.

There's still filming tomorrow morning, and it's too late for the actors to go back to the hotel. Fortunately, there are staff members staying overnight on set every day, so the actors and staff, big and small, just squeeze in together to rest.

Wen Xingming originally wanted to have someone send Wen Li back, but Wen Li refused to go back no matter what.

Seeing this, Wen Xingming had no choice but to let Wen Li sleep in his own dressing room, so she wouldn't have to squeeze into the large dormitory with the other child actors.

At night, a few scattered stars hung on the branches of the trees, and the dark sky seemed quiet.

Only the occasional sound of cars turning off could be heard outside the film set.

Half-asleep, Wen Li felt something crackling in her ears, while the sounds outside were chaotic and frantic.

Wen Li suddenly opened her eyes.

All around were dancing orange-yellow flames, and countless plumes of black smoke rose above the room.

The lounge is on fire.
