Zhou Xingyun silently took out his notebook and drew a big X on the columns for emotional intelligence and education.
Wen Li craned her neck to take a look and saw Zhou Xingyun calmly put the notebook back into his pocket.
“You’re still a newcomer, so giving you too many resources would be counterproductive. I’m planning to let you build up your popularity with the audience first.”
Zhou Xingyun is a veteran in the entertainment industry. He knows that there are indeed many actors brought about by capital, but they are different. Without strong financial backing, they need to take things one step at a time.
Wen Li doesn't understand the intricacies of the entertainment industry.
But she knew that whether she could make money in the future depended entirely on Zhou Xingyun, so she nodded frantically.
Zhou Xingyun was quite pleased with Wen Li's thoughtfulness: "Go back and pack your things. I have a small role that's perfect for you. Go back and review the lines..."
As if remembering something, Zhou Xingyun hesitated for a moment: "You should be able to read, right?"
Wen Li gasped, then lowered her head shyly. After thinking for a moment, she answered conservatively, "I know some of them."
Zhou Xingyun rubbed his forehead, but what he felt more in his heart was sympathy and heartache.
Wen Li looks poor and probably hasn't been to school... which is probably normal?
Zhou Xingyun's expression softened considerably, and he lowered his voice: "It's okay, it's not your fault that you didn't have the opportunity to go to school. How about this, you can join the film crew early, and I'll hire a teacher for you. Try to memorize as much content as possible before filming starts."
Since that's what they've said, Wen Li could only nod in agreement.
Before leaving, Zhou Xingyun asked for Wen Li's current address, saying he would come to pick her up later.
After Zhou Xingyun left, Wen Li happily returned to Huo Yinghuai's company.
When Huo Yinghuai returned from the meeting, he heard from Wen Li that she had successfully signed a contract with the company. He smiled and said, "Congratulations. You can earn your own money from now on."
These words struck a chord with Wen Li.
Although Huo Yinghuai gave her a lot of money, they were not related by blood, and Wen Li always felt uneasy.
It would be different if you could earn your own money.
"I'm going on a business trip abroad tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to take you to the film set," Huo Yinghuai said regretfully.
Wen Li now has her own career, but Huo Yinghuai is always worried, always feeling that someone will bully her whenever he's not around.
Wen Li was unaware of Huo Yinghuai's thoughts. She had originally planned to resolve the construction site issue in a couple of days, but Huo Yinghuai suddenly had to go abroad, so she had to put the matter on the agenda.
"Why don't we wait until I get back? You'll be joining the film crew soon, so get some rest." Huo Yinghuai was worried that Wen Li wouldn't get enough rest before joining the film crew.
Wen Li shook her head: "My house-protecting talisman won't last that long. Once it expires, something will happen at the construction site again. Besides, this is related to your luck, so we have to resolve this as soon as possible."
Huo Yinghuai had heard Wen Li talk about her luck countless times, and couldn't help but ask, "What will happen if my luck is damaged?"
“You’ll die.” Wen Li casually picked up a delicate little cake and put it in her mouth, answering seriously, “Just like the two accidents you had at the construction site were due to damage to your luck. If it weren’t for your abundant moral virtue, anyone else would probably be dead by now.”
Huo Yinghuai said, as if coaxing a child, "Then I really am lucky to be alive."
Wen Li nodded: "You're just lucky. I can see that the evil aura around you has been lingering for a long time, but your fortune and life are fine."
Wen Li's eyes were full of envy; she and her master together couldn't even scrape together a hundred yuan.
Huo Yinghuai chuckled softly, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
He did have a lot of trouble growing up, you could even say he was unlucky, but he always managed to escape danger.
He used to think he was just unlucky, but after witnessing Wen Li's abilities, Huo Yinghuai guessed that things might not be so simple.
"Then let's go now," Huo Yinghuai said calmly.
Wen Li patted the cake crumbs off her hands and nodded, "Okay, but I need you to prepare some things."
Wen Li is a woman of action. After lunch, the two returned to the villa. Soon after, the yellow talisman and cinnabar that Wen Li had requested were delivered to their door.
For the rest of the afternoon, Wen Li stayed in Huo Yinghuai's study, doing something unknown, until 11 p.m. when she finally came out.
Huo Yinghuai had prepared a table full of food in advance. When he saw Wen Li come downstairs, he said, "Are you hungry? Have something to eat first."
Wen Li casually placed her tattered bag on the chair, picked up her chopsticks, and started eating, looking like a starving ghost reincarnated.
After the meal, Huo Yinghuai personally drove to the construction site.
The construction site was pitch black at night, with only a light hanging above the yellow tower crane. The workers had already finished their shifts, and everything was quiet except for the occasional sound of the wind.
After getting off the bus, Wen Li took out a palm-sized compass from her bag.
Huo Yinghuai only heard the little girl next to him mutter two incantations, and then the compass began to spin continuously.
The further they went, the darker the surroundings became, until finally Huo Yinghuai couldn't even see Wen Li's face clearly.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Just then, a pair of warm, delicate hands gently grasped his wrist, and a faint fragrance of gardenias wafted into Huo Yinghuai's nostrils.
Huo Yinghuai lowered his head, his dark eyes fixed intently on Wen Li.
After a long pause, Huo Yinghuai gave a soft "hmm".
In the darkness, Wen Li revealed two small dimples, her voice soft and sweet: "Don't worry, I will protect you."
The moment he finished speaking, the compass emitted a sharp, soul-stirring sound.
"We've arrived." Wen Li paused, putting away her compass.
Then Wen Li looked around again, her brows furrowing instantly, her voice turning cold: "Huo Yinghuai, do you also own those buildings across the street?"
