Chapter 22 Waiting for You

"Wasn't my sister with Brother Changfeng last night?"

The implication in Li Ruo's words was very strong.

Everyone here is an adult; there's no need to say many things aloud.

Li Daocheng glared at Li Rao with disappointment, but the latter looked away guiltily.

Li Ruo tilted her head and smiled.

When the three met at the coffee shop yesterday, she bent down to pick up her phone.

At a glance, one could see a section of Li Rao's white leg resting on Wen Changfeng's thigh.

Both of them are known for having fun, and you can easily guess where they'll go after a few drinks.

"Since my sister likes Brother Changfeng, I can't very well steal him away."

"Ruo Ruo, you must have misunderstood."

Sun Lan forced a smile and explained, "Your sister and Changfeng do have a good relationship, but they're just friends. You're Changfeng's fiancée. If your sister does anything to make you uncomfortable, I'll have her apologize to you."

"There's no need for that, we're all family."

The atmosphere at the dinner table was noticeably somber.

From the initial harmonious atmosphere, everyone unanimously fell into an awkward silence.

After a while, Sun Lan finally broke the deadlock.

"And what about these shares—"

"Clang."

It was the sound of two chopsticks hitting the ground.

Li Ruo looked flustered for a moment, and she quickly bent down to pick it up.

"Excuse me……"

When she straightened up again, her beautiful eyes were already misty.

Li Ruo bit her lip, seemingly trying her best to control herself and prevent her tears from falling.

She sniffed and silently began to eat.

Suddenly, Li Ruo paused and spoke slowly.

"Am I... just a tool for the Li family's marriage alliance?"

In short, it was trembling and cautious.

Li Ru sniffed and lowered her voice.

"Actually, these shares can't be put in anyone's name, or rather, anyone can, but not me, right?"

As soon as she finished speaking, she raised her moist, deer-like eyes and looked at Li Daocheng sitting opposite her.

Li Ruo's shoulders were trembling almost imperceptibly.

"Even though we're all daughters of the Li family, I just can't get love, right?"

In my memory, Li Ruo has always been easy to manipulate.

Li Daocheng narrowed his eyes. "Why do you think that?"

“I overheard my sister and mother talking at the door just now. I just felt that I rarely come home and didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere at home, but Father—I’ll feel sad too.”

Every word and phrase is filled with grievances.

As she spoke, large tears rolled down her cheeks.

Li Ruo sobbed, her voice becoming intermittent.

“From the first day I was brought home, I was not accepted. To this day, I am still an outsider. I do not receive the love of my father and mother, nor the affection of my brothers and sisters. I am nothing more than a tool for a marriage alliance.”

Her sobs grew louder and louder until, in the end, Li Ruo couldn't even lift the rice bowl in front of her.

Tears streamed down her face like broken beads into the bowl in front of her, and Li Ruo's little face had turned pale from crying.

"Then let me go. I don't care about the status of Miss Li."

At this point, Li Daocheng's expression finally changed.

The company is in dire need of working capital, and several stable and profitable projects were all given to us by the Wen family. How can this marriage be easily abandoned?

Are you suggesting that Li Rao be sent for a political marriage?

Impossible. Everyone in the industry knows that Wen Changfeng is a morally corrupt womanizer.

After all, she was his daughter whom he had raised for over twenty years. Li Daocheng was indeed materialistic, but he couldn't bear to part with her.

"alright!"

The patriarch, who had been silent all along, finally spoke.

"Ruoruo finally gets to come home for a meal, look at you all!"

He let out a long breath and said in a muffled voice.

“If Ruoruo marries Changfeng in the future, we will be united with the Wen family. What’s the point of distinguishing between yours and mine? Sun Lan, you are good in every way, except that you are too calculating.”

Seeing Li Daocheng's words, Sun Lan knew she couldn't say anything more and quickly admitted her mistake.

"Yes, yes, it's all my fault. I was too narrow-minded. Ruoruo, you've been wronged."

The girl, head bowed and sobbing at the dinner table, was still weeping.

But those drooping eyes were too clear.

She was like a cold, tearful machine, running pre-written code.

Every tear, when it falls, and where it falls, seems to be preordained.

Li Ruo curled her lips into a mocking smile.

It's so easy to get this idiot under my thumb.

Li Daocheng is driven by greed; he will immediately surrender if threatened with the company's interests.

This family is really stupid.

Why did I want to fit into this family so much in my previous life?

Why do you want the love of two idiots so much?

When Li Ruo looked up again, she looked at Li Daocheng with a mixture of belief and doubt.

"Really."

"Really, eat quickly, or the food will get cold."

Li Ruo pursed her lips.

"It's so good to be a father's daughter."

During the meal, everyone harbored their own ulterior motives.

After it was over, Li Ruo was about to leave when someone suddenly called out to her.

"Ruoruo".

Li Ruo turned around and saw Sun Lan.

She warmly grasped Li Ruo's hands, her tone filled with guilt.

"Ruoruo, it was all my fault just now, I made you suffer."

She patted Li Ruo's hand, "You've just eaten, don't rush to leave. Rest at home for a while, and wait for us to come back before you go, okay?"
