What!
Li Ruo paused, her fingers gripping the phone. "What's going on?"
"It's a long story, but you should come to the hospital first."
After hanging up the phone, Li Ruo was somewhat at a loss.
Today is her first day as Wen Huaiyan's secret lover. Given Wen Huaiyan's unpredictable nature, if she suggests going to the hospital now, he might just abandon her.
But that person was the most important person to me from childhood to adulthood.
“Mr. Wen,” Li Ruo tentatively requested, “my adoptive mother is hospitalized and in critical condition. Could you please take me to the hospital? I will obediently return to you on my own.”
Li Ruo made a reasonable request, but then realized she was being a bit too forward, so she quickly changed her mind.
"Please just drop me off by the roadside, is that alright?"
The atmosphere suddenly turned icy. Wen Huaiyan remained silent, simply staring at her.
Li Ruo felt a chill run down her spine under his gaze, and cautiously continued, "I'm sorry, Mr. Wen, I know I spoiled your mood, but..."
"Can."
She could hardly believe her ears.
Wen Huaiyan actually agreed?
But when the car stopped at the hospital entrance a dozen minutes later, Li Ruo didn't care about anything else.
Almost immediately, she rushed to the operating room door, only to learn that her adoptive mother had been transferred to a regular ward.
After rushing to the ward, Li Ruo only glanced at it before feeling like she was about to shatter.
The last time they met, her adoptive mother, Jiang Luochu, was standing in the kitchen, smiling and saying she was going to make dumplings for Li Ruo.
When we meet again, she's lying in bed.
Years of frugal living have left Jiang Luo in very poor health; looking at her now, one feels as if she might be blown away by the wind.
As if gripping her hand, Jiang Ze stepped forward and put his arm around her shoulder.
"It's alright, Ruoruo, the person has been rescued."
"Car accident?"
Jiang Luo is usually so careful when riding his bike, how could he have gotten into a car accident?
Jiang Luo was perfectly fine at this time in her previous life.
Li Ruo had a vague feeling that this was not an ordinary accident.
She glanced at the empty hospital room. "Where are the driver and his family?"
Jiang Ze sighed, "Mom had the accident early this morning. The driver fled the scene. The surveillance cameras in that area were damaged by the heavy rain and haven't been repaired yet."
Damaged?
It's all too coincidental.
Could it have been Li Rao who did it?
Li Ruo was so angry that she was trembling.
Jiang Ze thought she was overwhelmed with grief, so he took Li Ruo's hand and patted it gently to comfort her.
"Don't be too sad, Ruoruo. Mom is fine now. We just need to wait for her to wake up. We need to trust the doctors, okay?"
At this moment, Li Ruo was on the verge of emotional collapse. A second later, she suddenly felt a burning gaze on her back.
Li Ruo looked over and immediately met a pair of eyes that held a hint of murderous intent.
She seemed to suddenly wake up and noticed that Jiang Ze was holding her.
Li Ruo's body stiffened, and she immediately pulled away from Jiang Ze's embrace.
Jiang Ze paused, "Ruo Ruo, what's wrong? Did your brother hurt you?"
"No, brother."
Li Ruo shook her head, jogged to the door, and stood between the two to introduce them.
"This is Mr. Wen, who came with me."
"Mr. Wen?"
Jiang Ze was stunned for a moment before he reacted.
He didn't look well.
"Boyfriend?"
Li Ruo felt that she was not worthy of those three words.
Now she is just a puppet of the Li family, while Wen Huaiyan is a figure revered by thousands in the industry.
Her identity is at best that of a little dog with a collar.
"No, this gentleman does not belong to me."
Li Ruo didn't want to explain too much to Jiang Ze.
She only hoped that Wen Huaiyan wouldn't act possessively and secretly have someone cripple the hand that her brother had just put his arm around her.
"Brother, I came in such a hurry today. I still have some things to take care of. If Mom wakes up, please remember to tell me as soon as possible."
Li Ruo was in a hurry. Jiang Ze was about to stop her when he inadvertently noticed a few patches of crimson on her neck.
Although Li Ruo had specially worn a high-necked dress today, the hickeys were still too rampant, spreading all the way from her fair neck.
Jiang Ze paused.
Before he could speak, Li Ruo said goodbye and left with Mr. Wen, who had come with her.
Jiang Ze stood there as if he had lost his soul.
