Realizing that it was Wen Huaiyan sitting at the head of the bed, she regained her composure and asked with a slight smile, "When did Mr. Wen return?"
Although the fear in her eyes was fleeting, Wen Huaiyan still caught it.
He didn't answer her question directly, but thoughtfully asked, "Are you afraid of me?"
Li Ruo shook her head without any guilt: "No, I just had a nightmare. I didn't expect Mr. to come back, so I wasn't prepared."
Wen Huaiyan nodded with a half-smile, not bothering to delve into the content of the dream.
Li Ruo's mind became a little more active, and she tentatively asked, "Mr. Wen, has your fever subsided?"
Wen Huaiyan gave Li Ruo a meaningful look. "Hasn't the transfer already been completed? Thanks to you."
Perhaps because of her illness, Li Ruo even had the urge to joke with Wen Huaiyan, "I'm taking the blame for your illness, shouldn't I get some kind of reward?"
Wen Huaiyan nodded noncommittally, "What kind of reward do you want?"
In fact, Li Ruo was just saying it casually, but she didn't expect Wen Huaiyan to give such a serious answer.
She choked for a moment.
After a long pause, she tentatively asked, "I wonder if Mr. Wen has any free time these past few days?"
Wen Huaiyan was unaware of Li Ruo's thoughts. He went through his schedule in his mind and nodded thoughtfully, "There's still time. It won't really be like a spinning top."
"So...can you spare half a day for me?"
"what are you up to?"
Wen Huaiyan became interested and looked at Li Ruo with some curiosity.
Li Ruo winked playfully, but showed no intention of revealing the secret. "It's a secret. If I tell you beforehand, there won't be any surprise. Please wait patiently, and you'll find out when the time comes."
Wen Huaiyan nodded thoughtfully.
"Since you're not feeling well, you should rest for now. I still have work to do."
Seeing him get up to leave, Li Ruo reached out and grabbed his sleeve, blinking rapidly. "Did you come back specifically to see me?"
Wen Huaiyan paused for a moment, then smiled and replied, "Is the answer to this question very important to you?"
Li Ruo bit her lip and remained silent for a long time.
Wen Huaiyan ruffled her hair, said nothing more, and turned to leave the room.
The housekeeper was already waiting outside as he had instructed, and when she saw him come out of the room, she immediately went to greet him.
Wen Huaiyan said in a calm and steady tone, "I've been a bit busy these past few days. Take good care of her. Call me if anything unexpected happens."
"I understand, sir. Don't worry."
The housekeeper immediately nodded respectfully.
Wen Huaiyan took a few steps and spoke again when they were almost at the study: "By the way, if there are any visitors these days, she should turn them down if she can't receive them."
"Yes, sir."
The housekeeper quickly agreed, then unconsciously added, "Sir is so considerate to Miss Li."
Hearing her flattery, Wen Huaiyan paused and gave her a meaningful look.
The housekeeper quickly realized her mistake and lowered her head apologetically, saying, "I'm sorry, sir, I was too talkative."
Wen Huaiyan didn't make things difficult for her, but he did remind her again: "Do what you should do."
The housekeeper responded repeatedly.
Only after Wen Huaiyan entered the study did she finally breathe a sigh of relief, feeling as if she had survived a disaster.
Wen Huaiyan's gaze just now was truly frightening, but fortunately she didn't say anything she shouldn't have.
...
When the housekeeper brought the lotus seed soup into the room, Li Ruo clearly noticed that her expression was a little off and asked with concern, "What's wrong with you?"
The housekeeper replied gently, "It's alright. The master just instructed me to take good care of you."
Her voice was gentle, and if her face hadn't been so pale, Li Ruozhen might have believed her.
However, since the other party was unwilling to talk about it, Li Ruo did not force her. She simply said in a low voice, "Thank you for taking care of me. Actually, I don't feel uncomfortable anymore."
"Even so, you still need to take good care of your health. This is no joke. Miss, this lotus seed soup is my secret recipe. Why don't you give it a try?"
Li Ruo took the lotus seed soup, smiled and raised her eyebrows: "You're so thoughtful. This looks delicious. Thank you, Grandma."
"Don't mention it. This is all I should do as an old woman."
"Mother-in-law, is there anything else you need to do?"
After a moment of silence, Li Ruo unexpectedly changed the subject.
The housekeeper paused, then shook her head: "What's wrong?"
Li Ruo moved the chair next to the bedside table to the front of the bed, and then gestured for the housekeeper to sit down.
"If Mr. Wen didn't ask you to serve him, would you mind sitting down and having a chat with me?"
The housekeeper always doted on Li Ruo, and now that she had heard Li Ruo speak up herself, she naturally agreed without hesitation.
After she sat down, Li Ruo slowly sipped her lotus seed soup and casually asked, "Mother-in-law, you've been in this house for a long time, haven't you?"
The housekeeper rubbed her wrist and nodded with a smile: "Yes, Mr. Wen treats his subordinates very well. I've gotten used to it over the years."
"That's great, I also think he's a very good person." Li Ruo seized the opportunity to praise him.
The housekeeper's expression shifted slightly, but eventually returned to normal. As if finding agreement, she added, "I didn't expect we were thinking the same thing. Miss Li, will you be leaving soon?"
"leave?"
Li Ruo was unsure why she would suddenly have such a guess. She paused for a moment, then blinked in confusion.
