Chapter 238 Mala Tang (Spicy Hot Pot)

When it's cold, Yun Jin prefers to stay in bed longer.

Small rice cakes are also included.

When I woke up, I found that my mother was still sleeping. Then I looked to my right and my father was gone.

Little Rice Cake knew that her father must have gone back to training. After dozing off for a while, she lay down and continued to sleep.

After Yun Jin had finished sleeping, Xiao Niangao was hungry: "Mommy, I'm hungry!"

Without saying a word, Yun Jin washed up with Xiao Niangao and immediately looked at the table. There were eggs, soy milk and fried dough sticks, and steamed buns. They could be heated up and eaten.

Each of them had an egg, and after finishing their soy milk, the mother and daughter started sharing fried dough sticks and half a steamed bun. By the time they finished eating, it was almost noon.

Seeing the mother and daughter sunbathing downstairs, Sister-in-law Gao took some melon seeds down and they all ate melon seeds and chatted together.

When Yun Jin saw Sister Gao, she thought of the spicy hot pot incident: "Sister Gao, you've come at the right time. I just happen to have a way to make money. Would you like to try it?"

Upon hearing that it would make money, Sister Gao's eyes lit up.

The barbecue business is so good in the summer that now, even if you only make three or five yuan a night, Sister Gao doesn't want to set up a stall anymore. It's cold, tiring, and doesn't make any money. Sister Gao is starting to look down on even the smallest things.

"Whatever the method, just tell me, and I'll definitely do it." Sister-in-law Gao knew that Yun Jin was capable. If it weren't for Yun Jin setting up the barbecue stall, when would she ever have been able to save up a thousand yuan?

In the past, with a man's meager salary, after feeding and drinking his own family and sending money back to his hometown, life was very tight. He didn't even make himself a nice set of clothes for three years.

Now she has almost a thousand in savings, which is something Gao's sister-in-law never dared to dream of. Thanks to Yun Jin, she has experienced the joy of making money.

Yun Jin knew that Sister-in-law Gao was interested. As soon as she mentioned the mala tang (spicy hot pot), Sister-in-law Gao said without hesitation, "I'll go buy the seasonings right now. We also have vegetables at home. We won't be setting up the stall tonight. We'll have mala tang for dinner."

“Okay!” Yun Jin admired Gao’s sister-in-law’s efficient personality and got to work right away.

Yun Jin needed to take care of the child, so she wrote down what she needed to buy and gave it to Sister-in-law Gao. Sister-in-law Gao then rode her bicycle off to buy the items in a great hurry.

Many of the women asked Yun Jin, "What is she doing? Did she find some money? She's all smiles. Isn't she afraid of getting a stomachache from the cold wind?"

Yun Jin knew they were there to gather information, but she wouldn't say anything until the spicy hot pot was ready.

She gave a few perfunctory words and then shared the melon seeds that Sister-in-law Gao had brought with everyone.

They went back and brought out a lot of the candies and pastries they had bought in Beijing, so everyone could enjoy them.

Knowing that Yun Jin was generous, they didn't stand on ceremony and took some candy with them to take back with them, so they could give it to the children after school.

Knowing that Yun Jin had returned, Li's mother saw them chatting together and, feeling a little embarrassed, came over with her grandson to greet them: "You and your daughter are back. Did Ai Mei say anything?"

Yun Jin shook her head: "I came back in a hurry and didn't have time to tell her, so she doesn't know I'm back."

Li's mother complained, "Why didn't you tell her?"

Yun Jin didn't tolerate Li's mother. Ever since Gao's sister-in-law took over the barbecue stall, Li's mother had been giving her a hard time. Yun Jin didn't care. If it weren't for Li Aimei and her brother, Yun Jin wouldn't have bothered with her at all.

"I said I was going back to the base temporarily. Anyway, it's almost Chinese New Year, so when she comes back, you can tell her what you want to say yourself." Yun Jin didn't waste her time and didn't really treat her as a messenger.

Seeing that Yun Jin's attitude was not good, Li's mother was a little unhappy: "I don't know who that child has been influenced by. She only wrote a letter after the summer vacation, and I, as her mother, don't even care."

Yun Jin said innocently, "Anyway, she didn't learn it from me. After all, she's Auntie's daughter, so she probably inherited your tendency to turn her back on people."

Li's mother had intended to make a veiled criticism, but Yun Jin was even more ruthless, directly accusing her of turning her back on her: "You... what do you mean by this?"

“Whatever you mean, Auntie, that’s exactly what I mean.” Yun Jin wasn’t afraid of offending anyone, and her eyes showed even more disdain than Auntie’s.

Li's mother choked for a moment, realizing that Yun Jin was not giving her any face at all. She glared at her angrily, then turned and left with her grandson in her arms.

The other women watching the drama were incredibly impressed with Li's mother.

As soon as she left, someone sowed discord: "It's probably still about the barbecue stand. She complained a lot after you returned to Beijing. She's still not satisfied!"

"Yes, yes, it's your fault for not letting her take over."

"Now I can't even see Sister-in-law Gao giving me a nice look."

"Don't you remember how good you were to their family? Ai Mei was able to go to university. If it weren't for your encouragement to go to high school and take the college entrance exam, she would have been arranged to marry someone long ago."

Yun Jin listened but didn't take their words seriously.

Little Rice Cake's cry of "Dad!" interrupted everyone's conversation.

Seeing that it was noon, they went home to cook.

When they left, they took all the candies that Yun Jin had taken out.

When He Tingchuan saw Yun Jin, he strode towards her with gentle eyes and tender affection. The corners of his mouth turned up, and the smile that he couldn't hide on his cold face made Yun Jin smile as well.

"Why did you come back at noon?" Yun Jin asked in surprise.

He Tingchuan picked up Xiao Niangao: "I'll cook longevity noodles for Niangao."

"Yay!" Little Rice Cake smacked her lips and sweet-talked her dad: "I love the noodles Daddy cooks, they're so delicious!"

Not only was He Tingchuan praised by his daughter, but he also needed his wife to express her opinion.

Yun Jin was both amused and exasperated, but insisted, "I also love the noodles that Daddy Rice Cake cooks, I adore them!"

He Tingchuan could barely suppress the smile on his face. He happily hugged his daughter, led his wife home, and cooked their favorite noodles, the kind they absolutely loved.

The stove was lit at home, and the noodles were cooked quickly. We added greens, eggs, and some leftover pig ears, which were also braised by Aunt He. We hadn't finished them yet, but they can be kept for a long time in winter.
