Chapter 16 "Life Taboo" and Leaving the Hive

Hermes paused at the door for a moment, then slowly stepped into the house.

He carefully stepped over the stones on the soft green lawn. Bai Di was in his body, following him to the incubator in the center.

At first, due to the distance, Bai Di could not see clearly what was happening inside the incubator.

When I got closer, I found a small and cute child lying inside.

The child had no hair on his head and was covered with a quilt made of pure white Laiying gauze.

At this time, the child closed his eyes and fell asleep peacefully.

Bai Di was very confused and curious about what he saw. He really couldn't understand why he witnessed such a strange thing.

However, he knew very well that now was not the best time to explore the reasons.

Hermes stared silently at everything in front of him, as if time had stopped at this moment.

It was a long time before Bai Di noticed that he began to move slowly towards the beautiful maple forest.

As they passed through the woods, Bai Di thought he would see more amazing sights, but he never expected that what was waiting for them was a huge wall.

The wall is so vast that it gives people a sense of insurmountable oppression.

What surprised Bai Di even more was that the inside of the wall was divided into countless compartments of different sizes.

A variety of creatures live in each compartment, including arthropods such as spiders and butterflies, as well as numerous fish and plants.

However, the strangest thing is that each compartment seems to hide a small alchemy circle, emitting a faint but mysterious light.

Bai Di keenly noticed that Hermes' mood had changed significantly since he saw the wall.

There was a deep obsession in his eyes, as if this wall and the secrets it contained were of inestimable importance to him.

Bai Di couldn't help but become curious, what secrets did this wall hide? Why was Hermes so fascinated by it?

"I wonder what happened to Blore and the others?" Bai Di suddenly thought of them while he was daydreaming.

The next second, he felt as if he was lifted up by an invisible force, gradually separating from this body and slowly floating in the air.

At this moment, bang-bang-bang! A series of rapid and violent knocks on the door suddenly came, breaking the silence.

Along with the knock on the door, there was also an old and anxious voice, constantly calling out: "Xiao He, Xiao He..."

Bai Di saw him standing there quietly, without saying a word, like a sculpture.

However, the knocks on the door grew louder and louder, as if to shake the entire room down. Hermes remained silent and did not respond.

"I know you are in there, open the door quickly!" The old man's voice came into the house through the crack in the door, extremely clear.

Apparently, he used some kind of alchemical array to enhance the propagation of sound.

However, Hermes remained indifferent to the old man's cries.

Just when Bai Di thought that this farce would end here, the man suddenly sighed, turned and walked towards the experimental table.

But at this moment, something unexpected happened.

He suddenly stopped, as if he suddenly remembered something, and then turned around and ran towards the incubator in the center.

Bai Di then also looked into the distance and saw an old man in a black cloak standing next to the incubator, with a few tufts of snow-white hair and beard sticking out from the brim of his hat.

The old man just stood there quietly, looking at the child in the incubator.

"Chief Vinster, you..." When Hermes first saw the old man, he was obviously very nervous, and there was a hint of helplessness in his voice.

"Isn't he here? Why is no one answering when I call out?" Venster didn't look at Hermes, but just stared at the child in front of him. He suddenly raised his head and looked at him, with a hint of confusion and dissatisfaction in his eyes.

"I was busy just now and didn't hear it."

Bai Di saw that Hermes was a little at a loss, and after a moment of silence, he quickly explained.

"Hmph." The old man snorted softly and fell silent. The atmosphere in the room suddenly fell into a strange state, as if an invisible pressure was enveloping everyone.

"You have a good spider," said Venster suddenly.

Bai Di's gaze involuntarily followed the old man's line of sight, and he saw a large golden net hanging above the incubator.

The net sparkled brightly under the light, like a fine work of art.

Hermes' lips moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end no sound came out.

The old man didn't seem to notice his actions and continued to talk to himself: "It's really not easy to come in. I have to take a good look." As he said that, he began to look around.

"Grandpa..." Hermes finally mustered up the courage and called out softly.

"So I'm still your grandfather." The old man's tone was full of sarcasm, and he didn't pay much attention to Hermes.

His attention was completely drawn to the surrounding environment, as if he was curious about everything here.

"You know, I..." Hermes was about to speak when the old man raised his hand to signal him to stop.

"What are you going to do next? Will you continue?" the old man asked.

Hermes didn't say anything. He turned around and took out a book from the cabinet and said,

"I have not given up the most basic ethics as an alchemist. I think this laboratory and this book will become the most beautiful things in my life. I will leave them to the next generation of patriarchs."
