Chapter 96 I will resign. Zhu Yanhe has already handed over the water...
Zhu Yanhe had already handed over the water: "Nobody's going to take it from you."
Ning Buyi was rescued and caught his breath, but he still had to go to work and didn't have time to eat. It was all Zhu Yanhe's fault for taking him to work.
Zhu Yanhe was standing to the side with a backpack, stuffing it with snacks and test papers. It didn't look like he was taking someone to work, but more like he was taking a child to school.
Ning Buyi took a bite of his sandwich and asked, "Don't you have some there? Why did you bring it?"
"It's gone now."
Ning Buyi didn't understand what he meant, but he didn't take it to heart.
After finishing their meal, Zhu Yanhe helped him put on a huge pile of clothes before leaving the house. Zhu Yanhe parked the car in front of the company instead of driving directly into the basement. Ning Buyi asked in confusion, "Aren't we going to stop and go in?"
“I have something to do, so you’ll have to go by yourself today. Someone will take you, and I’ll pick you up this afternoon.” Zhu Yanhe patted his head, giving him instructions like a child.
All right.
Ning got out of the car without opening the door, turning back every few steps to wave to Zhu Yanhe until the boy's figure disappeared at the door before the black car drove away from the company building.
Zhu Yanhe was right. As soon as he stepped through the door, a woman greeted him. Ning Buyi remembered seeing her in the president's office.
"Ningning, you're here! Just call me Sister Tan. We'll be working together from now on." Tan Yu smiled, her eyes crinkling, and took the backpack from Ning Buyi's hand.
"Thank you, sister." Ning Buyi scratched the back of his head, his expression reserved.
The elevator went straight up to the upper floors, and Tan Yu led him into the president's office, where they found a quiet spot to sit down.
"Take this morning to get used to things, and I'll assign you work tomorrow." Tan Yu said this and left, leaving him sitting alone at his workstation, feeling lost.
Everyone in the office was working, and no one noticed him. Ning Buyi usually had Zhu Yanhe by his side at the company, but now that Zhu Yanhe wasn't there, he felt uneasy everywhere.
He opened his phone and texted Zhu Yanhe, asking when he could come back. He said he would feel much better if Zhu Yanhe was there.
After sending the message, Ning Buyi took out the test paper from his backpack to start writing. His workstation had everything, all brand new, but he didn't even look at it before rummaging around for it.
Zhu Yanhe didn't reply to the message until noon. By then, Ning Buyi was surrounded by people, all of whom Ning Buyi knew, as he often came here to play.
What does Ningning want for lunch?
"Ningning, would you like to eat at the little restaurant downstairs with your sister?"
"I'm going to the cafeteria later, do you want me to bring you anything?"
The assistants were all very enthusiastic. Not only was Ning Buyi cute, but he also had a good personality, like a little rabbit. He could easily be a mascot in the president's office.
"Go away, go away, go eat your food." The assistant dismissed the people surrounding the boy and placed the insulated lunchbox on the table. "This is your lunch, sent by President Zhu."
Ning Buyi was a little deflated. He had just wanted to go to that restaurant, but Zhu Yanhe had controlled his food intake!
"It has to be President Zhu, look at him." One of the assistants exclaimed.
"That's why they say President Zhu is a real man; he'd do *that* for his wife." Someone nodded in agreement.
Ning Buyi was looking down at his phone and didn't hear their conversation. He tapped the screen and sent a bunch of dissatisfied emojis before opening the insulated food container and starting to eat.
Ning Buyi felt much better in the short time just now, and seemed to feel fine being alone here.
After lunch break, Ning Buyi sidled up next to Tan Yu. He sent a message to Zhu Yanhe but received no reply. Was Zhu Yanhe still coming or not?
"Sister Tan, will Zhu Yanhe be coming this afternoon?"
"This... I don't know either." Tan Yu looked troubled. It wasn't that she really didn't know, but President Zhu wouldn't let her say.
Not getting an answer, Ning Buyi moved back. How could Zhu Yanhe be so mean, bringing him to work while he himself doesn't!
A knock sounded at the door, and everyone looked towards it. An older man stood ramrod straight: "Ning Buyi, President Zhu wants you to come over. Bring your exam paper."
Everyone turned to look at Ning Buyi, but their expressions weren't curious. Something felt off; it was like a teacher calling him to the office! This person looked familiar; he seemed to have seen him before, but couldn't remember.
The boy slung his backpack over his shoulder and ran towards the president's office. That wretched Zhu Yanhe, he's finally back!
He was dumbfounded when he pushed open the office door and looked inside. Huh?
"What's the current situation with President Zhu and the others?" A group of people gathered in a circle and kept chattering.
"Then what else could it be that Old Zhu calls his daughter-in-law to his office to do her homework?"
"What?" Everyone stared at the person who had just spoken, hoping she would reveal some juicy gossip about a wealthy family.
"It's a test. If Boss Zhu succeeds, he can be with his wife." She spoke with great conviction, and after thinking about what had happened in the past few days, they realized that it might really be true.
On the other side, Ning Buyi stood rooted to the spot, frowning as he asked, "Old Master Zhu? What are you doing here?"
He didn't want to go in; there were eight men in black in the room!
Zhu Guanghai was satisfied with his reaction. This brat had been fooled by him, had he? The man smiled and said, "Aren't you coming in?"
Ning Buyi shuffled along the door frame a little, then pulled back: "Old Master Zhu, I'll go back to my place and write."
He doesn't want to take the exam with eight bodyguards.
“No, Zhu Yanhe specifically instructed me to keep an eye on you while you write.” Zhu Guanghai looked smug. Ning Buyi was so amusing. “If you don’t come in, I’ll have them move you in.”
Absolutely not! Ning Buyi finally put down the door frame that had been with him through thick and thin, and slowly moved towards it, like a snail.
"You..." Zhu Guanghai had barely uttered a word when Ning Buyi, as if his feet were greased, ran off at lightning speed and was sitting right next to him in a matter of moments.
Zhu Guanghai was amused and waved his hand, saying, "You guys can go out now."
"Dad, where's Zhu Yanhe?" Ning Buyi took the test paper out of his schoolbag and placed it on the table.
Zhu Guanghai composed himself and said in a slightly harsher tone, "Don't mention that unfilial son. Write your exam paper."
Yesterday afternoon, Zhu Guanghai was at home drinking tea and playing chess, enjoying a comfortable life. His wife passed by the pavilion and sighed, "You still have the mind to play chess? The Zhu family line is about to end."
She nearly fainted when she saw the photo. How could men do that to each other? It was so immoral and scandalous.
Madam Zhu clutched her chest, thinking that Zhu Yanhe had never been close to them. He did and said everything by himself, and it was no different for him to have them as parents than for Zhu Yanhe. He would only go back for the New Year.
Even though they haven't left the country or the city, they act as if the child doesn't exist.
Zhu Guanghai's rare good mood was interrupted again, and his tone was not so calm: "Don't I want to break them up? That kid likes her, and I'm already thinking of a way."
He waved his hand impatiently, saying that he was getting a headache from all the talking.
"Xiao He?" Madam Zhu stood in the corridor and saw Zhu Yanhe entering.
Zhu Yanhe simply nodded and walked straight into the inner pavilion.
Faced with her son's indifference, Mrs. Zhu lost her strength and leaned against the door frame. The nanny, who was holding a broom, was so frightened that she immediately dropped what she was holding and helped her up.
Zhu Guanghai frowned, his brow furrowing deeply: "You don't even call your parents when you come home?"
"You went to see Ning Buyi?" Zhu Yanhe asked directly, ignoring his reply.
Zhu Guanghai snorted coldly, holding a teapot in his hand: "Can't I even take a look at my son's girlfriend?"
The tea flowed in an arc from the rim of the cup, passing over tea pets of various shapes, turning their gray exteriors into vibrant colors. Zhu Yanhe spoke softly, "Don't look for him anymore."
"You're where you are today because your surname is Zhu! If your surname weren't Zhu, would you and he be where you are today?"
With a loud bang, the porcelain teapot in Zhu Guanghai's hand slammed heavily onto the tea table, even causing the wooden base underneath to shake.
Zhu Yanhe came all this way just for this, and his anger flared up from the bottom of his heart.
Zhu Yan and Chang Shen stood there without speaking for a long time. Zhu Guanghai sat upright in the center of the pavilion, while Madam Zhu was helped to lean against the end of the corridor. Even the sound of the breeze rustling the leaves seemed particularly noisy among them.
A wall brought the three of them together, and Zhu Yanhe slowly said, "I will resign. If there is a need to change my surname, I will make time to go there."
So, don't touch him anymore.
Madam Zhu, who had been leaning against the door, clutched her chest upon hearing this, her face contorted in pain, and a look of utter exhaustion instantly crept over her. It was as if a piece of her own flesh and blood had dared to utter such outrageous words as severing ties.
Zhu Guanghai suddenly stood up, causing the chair behind him to fall straight to the ground. He leaned on the scepter beside him and was about to raise it when he paused in mid-air for a second before putting it down again.
Zhu Yanhe has always been someone who responds better to gentle persuasion than force. Although he's currently in a state of rage, if he provokes Zhu Yanhe any further, Zhu Yanhe might be called Ning Yanhe tomorrow.
Zhu Guanghai used his prop to pick up the rattan chair from the ground, then sat back down. He cleared his throat and said, "Do you think paying back this much is enough? Your life was given to you by your mother."
"However, if you can succeed in starting your own business, I will no longer care about anything you do, and you can be with whomever you want."
Looking at Zhu Guanghai's aged face, Zhu Yanhe finally opened his mouth and said, "Okay."
The ray of sunlight that was originally shining into the pavilion was blocked by a cloud that drifted over, and another ray of sunlight fell on the exam papers in the office through the glass window.
Ning Buyi was biting his pen, pondering the questions. No wonder this set of papers wasn't circulated; the questions were so ingenious, they were an eye-opener for him.
"Don't you know how to do it?" A bespectacled man in his fifties turned to ask him.
"I hope you won't bother me, Dad." Ning Buyi kept his eyes on the question and didn't even look up at him.
He hates it when someone talks to him while he's deep in thought.
Zhu Guanghai flipped the cover and exclaimed, "Hey!" He hadn't expected this little kid to be doing such advanced questions.
"Can you do it?"
"You're so annoying, Uncle Zhu." He glared at him, pulled the test paper back, and moved his stool a little further away from Zhu Guanghai.
Zhu Guanghai laughed heartily, "Hey, still such a hothead."
If he had no relationship with Zhu Yanhe, Zhu Guanghai would definitely think this kid is really good. Now he can only say he's pretty good, not bad.
"Hey, let me teach you. I was the top student in the whole school back in the day," Zhu Guanghai said, putting down the documents in his hand.
"real?"
He turned around, his back to Zhu Guanghai, his face filled with distrust. Old Man Zhu had been a student for so long; he might have forgotten.
"I can tell at a glance," Zhu Guanghai said decisively. He then handed over his test paper, and just as Zhu Guanghai had said, he could tell the superposition method after glancing at the questions.
