Chapter 1

Chapter 1

This is a very quiet coffee shop located in a bustling street in the capital. The environment is warm and comfortable, and the air is filled with the aroma of coffee.

Morris Evan sat by the window. He had blond hair and blue eyes, and was wearing a neat dark green military uniform. The epaulettes on his shoulders indicated his current rank of lieutenant colonel.

Today was his day off, so he could have worn his civilian clothes. The reason he was still in uniform was for the person sitting across from him.

The Omega in front of you has a cold and beautiful face, a dull expression, and a thin body wrapped in a pure black suit. The posture he looks at you quietly is so beautiful that it makes people tremble.

Morris knew that this beauty had once been obsessed with uniforms. Perhaps his military uniform would bring him some luck in his next move.

"Jiang Yun," Morris finally called the Omega's name after nearly three minutes of silence. His voice was barely calm, but his hands, resting on his knees, were clenched into fists with nervousness. "We've known each other for seventeen years."

Jiang Yun lowered his eyes as he stirred the steaming coffee, and hummed absentmindedly.

Although Jiang Yun didn't look at me, he at least responded to me. This was not a bad start.

Morris habitually comforted himself and continued, "Over the years, I've watched you balance family and career, raising two children, and step by step reaching your current position. I know it hasn't been easy for you."

Jiang Yun remained silent.

Morris mustered up his courage and said, "In the future, please allow me to take care of you and the children!"

After Morris finished speaking, he lowered his head solemnly, as if he was making a sincere request to his superiors in the military.

He was so nervous that he didn't dare to breathe, let alone look at Jiang Yun's reaction. He stared at his hands on his knees, anxiously waiting for the Omega's verdict.

It seemed like he had been waiting for a long century before he finally heard Jiang Yun's voice. Jiang Yun asked, "Are you confessing your love or proposing to me?"

Morris looked up in surprise: "I..." He had carefully prepared for this date for a long time. He had imagined countless times how Jiang Yun would react after hearing his confession, but when the moment came, he was still panicked and at a loss.

He didn't think he had the right to propose to Jiang Yun now, but he couldn't help but secretly prepared a diamond ring.

Morris's gaze fell on the pad of the Omega's left ring finger. There was nothing on it, not even a trace of something.

"I'm confessing my love to you." Morris's courage burst out, and he was so excited that he couldn't speak coherently. "But if you want to get married, I'm willing to marry you right away! I will prepare a grand wedding for you, and I will treat your children as my own. If you don't want to have children anymore, I will fully support you!"

Jiang Yun was silent for a moment, and for the first time, he looked Morris up and down with a scrutinizing gaze.

The blond Alpha is undoubtedly a handsome guy with three-dimensional and deep facial features. The temperament he has cultivated in the military for many years is not comparable to that of ordinary people.

But it's still far from enough.

"Lieutenant Colonel Morris, I understand your intentions." Jiang Yun's tone was polite and cold, "But I'm sorry."

It was an expected answer, but it was like a bucket of cold water poured down on him. Morris was so stunned that his whole body stiffened. It took only the utmost willpower to avoid losing control.

Alpha said hoarsely: "Can you give me a reason?"

Jiang Yun didn't think it was necessary to give a specific reason to reject someone. Morris's gaze on him was too intense, and he had discovered Morris's secret crush a long time ago. The reason he continued to keep in touch with this Alpha was, firstly, due to work needs, and secondly, because -

"Is it because of Lu Huai?" Morris couldn't wait for Jiang Yun's answer and found a reason for him first: "You still can't forget Lu Huai, right?"

Jiang Yun: “…”

"I can't forget him either." Morris' eyes were red and his voice was trembling. "Lu Huai was my best brother, best comrade, and best superior! Because of this, I need to take good care of you three on his behalf! It's been seventeen years, Jiang Yun, Lu Huai has been killed in the line of duty for seventeen years. How long do you want to wait for him?!"

"Lieutenant Colonel Morris," Jiang Yun interrupted him calmly, "You seem to have misunderstood something."

Morris was stunned: "Misunderstanding?"

"Colonel Lu and I married purely for the benefit of our respective families," Jiang Yun said slowly. "We met through a blind date and got married after just three meetings. Two months after our marriage, he went off to the battlefield and has not been heard from since. Do you think, based on just three short months of being together, that I could have fallen so deeply in love with Colonel Lu that I would never change until death?"

Alpha was a little confused: "If you didn't love Lu Huai deeply, why did you hesitate to remarry for so many years?"

Jiang Yun put down his coffee and folded his slender fingers on the table. "I don't want to remarry. If I meet someone who meets my standards for a partner, I would be happy to start a new relationship."

Morris was delighted, and hope rekindled in his blue eyes: "So, what are your criteria for choosing a partner..."

"It's very simple," Jiang Yun smiled slightly, and his cold and flawless face suddenly became lively and vivid: "I just need him to be more handsome than Lu Huai."

Morris was stunned, the expectation in his eyes completely disappeared, replaced by loneliness and inferiority that he had not seen in many years.

The tall and handsome Alpha slowly lowered his head in front of Jiang Yun. Silence spread between the Alpha and the Omega, and no one spoke again.

After an unknown amount of time, Morris gave a knowing smile and said sadly, "But Jiang Yun, who can compare to Colonel Lu when he was 24 years old?"

Morris had suffered a major blow, and it would take him a while to recover. Jiang Yun didn't have the time to spend with Alpha to heal his broken heart. He paid the bill and left early, claiming he had work to attend to, leaving Morris alone and dejected.

The guard of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs opened the car door for Jiang Yun. Jiang Yun bent down, straddled his long and straight legs, and sat in the back seat of the extended car.

The half hour he spent drinking coffee with Morris was a complete waste of his time. Unless Morris could tell those foolish and arrogant Alphas in the military and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about his "mate selection criteria" for remarriage, it would save him a lot of trouble.

"Have a nice holiday, Mr. Jiang." A respectful and polite AI female voice sounded from within the car. "May I ask where you're headed next?"

"The Diplomatic Building."

Jiang Yun raised his hand and gently tapped the tip of his ear. The next second, a series of work interfaces unfolded in an orderly manner before his eyes, and the light blue cursor moved up and down and left and right along with his dark pupils.

He was about to process a document marked "Urgency: Level B" when a personal communication request popped up. The requester was Maggie, the aunt who was responsible for taking care of his two children.

Maggie would contact him at this time, mostly about her twins.

Jiang Yun immediately agreed to Maggie's request to communicate. Maggie's panicked voice clearly reached his ears: "Mr. Jiang!"

"What happened?" Jiang Yun said, "Tell me slowly."

Jiang Yun's calm voice carried a soothing power. When Maggie spoke again, her tone was noticeably calmer than before: "The school just contacted their family, saying that Xiaochao and Xiaomu had committed serious violations of school discipline, and asked their guardians to go to school immediately..."

"'Major violation of discipline'?" Jiang Yun's delicate and cold brows lowered. "What did they do?"

Maggie swallowed her saliva and said, "They said he beat up the instructor."

Today is a public holiday in the capital, and the twins weren't supposed to go to school, but they had recently participated in a physical training session organized by the school. The person they assaulted was likely the instructor who was giving them the training.

Maggie became anxious again as she spoke: "Xiao Chao is fine, but how could Xiao Mu fool around with his brother?"

"Don't stereotype." Jiang Yun said in a deep voice, "I believe they have their reasons for doing this."

"But you can't hit the instructor no matter what!"

"Don't worry," Jiang Yun said decisively, "I'll go to school now."

Among the tens of thousands of public schools in the capital, Simon College is widely considered the most understated and mysterious, yet the most exclusive and luxurious. Children who attend Simon College often come from wealthy and aristocratic families, often high-ranking politicians or business elites.

Some students' guardians are engaged in work that is confidential to the alliance, or their identities are not convenient to be disclosed. Even in the students' files, their exact information cannot be found. At most, only an emergency contact method can be found.

Jiang Mu and Lu Chao are two of them.

The first-year dean of Simon Public School looked at the two boys standing in the corner, and his temples ached.

Just by looking at the appearance and temperament of these two children, one could tell that their parents were no small matter. If this incident hadn't been so outrageous, he wouldn't have bothered them to make a special trip.

Lu Chao, the school's most problematic student, was under sixteen, nearly 185cm tall, and consistently ranked last in academic performance. He was outspoken and arrogant, always ready to stir up trouble at the slightest disagreement. However, his handsome face made him surprisingly popular among his classmates.

The Dean of Studies could easily come up with a hundred reasons why Lu Chao and the special training instructor had a fight, but Jiang Mu... why?!

Jiang Mu was undoubtedly the most exemplary student at Simon College. Beautiful, kind, gentle, and always ranked first in his grade. Whenever Lu Chao pissed him off, his anger would melt away if he saw Jiang Mu clutching a book and greeting him with a gentle smile.

How could a good student like Jiang Mu suddenly get involved with Lu Chao?

The dean sighed inwardly and retrieved the two people's files again.

There was very little information about their parents, and even looking through it yielded nothing useful. The Dean returned his attention to the students themselves, and suddenly discovered that Jiang Mu and Lu Chao had the same birthday...?

Before the dean could think about it, the AI assistant reminded him: "Sir, Jiang Mu and Lu Chao's guardians have arrived."

The two teenagers who were standing in the corner looked at each other silently, communicating with their eyes, with expressions as if disaster was about to happen.

The dean stood up quickly: "Please invite him in!"

A man in a black suit pushed the door open and walked in. His stunning beauty and the aura of a high-ranking official created a strange tension that made people both excited and frightened.

The person he had just seen on the news suddenly appeared before his eyes. The Dean was taken aback for a moment and said in astonishment, "You are..."

The man glanced at his sons out of the corner of his eye. The two boys bowed their heads to the ground, not daring to look their father in the eye.

"Jiang Mu and Lu Chao's father," the man indifferently withdrew his gaze, politely extended his hand to the dean, and introduced himself in a cold voice: "Jiang Yun."
