Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Maggie started working for Jiang Yun as soon as the twins were born.

Over more than ten years, the twins have grown from a pair of babies who only knew how to cry and suck milk into youthful teenagers, and Maggie has long become a half-relative to the father and his two children.

After receiving the communication from Simon Public School, Maggie has been restless. But she knows that no matter how difficult the problem is, Jiang Yun can handle it, and this time will be no different.

She was prepared for the father and son to be home late, but just as the setting sun was slanting over the kitchen counter outside the window, Lu Chao's voice came from the door: "Aunt Maggie, we're back! I'm so hungry, what are we having for dinner?"

"Xiao Chao? Xiao Mu!" Maggie called the twins' nicknames and trotted to the living room, just in time to see Jiang Yun handing his suit jacket to the AI butler.

There was not a single wrinkle on the white shirt that had been hidden by his coat for a whole day. He had not had time to untie his tie, and his cold, white, slender neck was revealed on his neat collar.

"Mr. Jiang!" Maggie walked forward and asked nervously, "Is the school issue resolved?"

"Don't worry." Jiang Yun kept his eyes fixed on hers while he spoke to her. Maggie thought this was some kind of social etiquette. While Jiang Yun was talking to her, he raised his hand to unbutton his shirt sleeves and said, "Let's have dinner."

Jiang Yunrang was relieved, and Maggie was completely relieved. She smiled and called the twins to wash their hands and eat.

The restaurant was lit up with warm and cozy lights. A family of four sat around the table, enjoying their food quietly. The quietness was even a little unusual.

Maggie was puzzled. Wasn't it said that the matter had been resolved? Why was Lu Chao, who usually talked the most at the dinner table, not saying a word now?

Lu Chao would only remain quiet in three situations: the first was when Jiang Yun told him to shut up, the second was when he was going to sleep, and the third was when he was thinking.

Lu Chao racked his brains but couldn't figure out why his father didn't scold him?

Even if we don't scold him for hitting someone, there's also the fact that he wanted to secretly save money to buy an AS81. Isn't that worth a severe punishment?

Lu Chao tried to communicate with his twin brother through eye contact as usual, but his eyes were almost twitching. Jiang Mu didn't even look at him. Instead, Jiang Yun asked, "Do you want to go to the ophthalmology department?"

Lu Chao finally calmed down. He tapped his ear, bored, and the interstellar network unfolded before his eyes. He'd originally intended to find something new and interesting to eat with his meal, but the first piece of news that popped up nearly killed him with "entertainment."

"puff--"

Lu Chao spat out a mouthful of juice. Maggie shouted, "Oh, what happened?" and came over to him and patted his back.

The boy waved his hands randomly, indicating that he was fine. He set the video in front of him to public mode and asked loudly, "Dad, is this you?"

In the holographic image, Morris, wearing a dark green military uniform, stood at the entrance of a cafe, attentively opening the door for the black-haired young man behind him. The young man walked straight into the cafe without even glancing at him, but Morris tightly protected the young man and followed him inside.

——[Lieutenant Colonel Morris went on a date on a public holiday, is a new relationship suspected to be exposed? 】

Whether intentionally or unintentionally, the black-haired young man's face was not captured in the photo, but his straight and cold back was enough for the twins to recognize their Omega father.

Lu Chao asked anxiously, "Dad, are you really dating Uncle Morris?"

Jiang Mu looked at his brother with sympathy. He had seen this piece of gossip from an unknown source on his way home. He also wanted to know what was going on, but he wasn't stupid enough to ask his father directly.

Maggie noticed that the atmosphere was not right and quickly tried to smooth things over: "Xiao Chao, this is a matter between adults..."

She thought Jiang Yun would ignore Lu Chao's trouble, but this time Jiang Yun not only did not stop Lu Chao from speaking, he even patiently explained the cause and effect of the matter to the twins.

"Lieutenant Colonel Morris asked me out for coffee, and I agreed." Jiang Yun slowly opened his mouth, "If you consider this a date."

Lu Chao was about to explode with anger: "What does he want to do?"

Jiang Yun said calmly: "Want to take care of us."

Jiang Mu was stunned for two seconds, and after struggling for a while, he said, "Dad, I support you no matter what choice you make. If you are happy with Uncle Morris, then I will be happy for you too."

"I'm not happy! Help! Who needs his care?" Lu Chao was furious. He paced around the dining table and finally stopped beside Jiang Yun. He grabbed the armrests of the dining chair with both hands, squatted down and said, "Dad, first of all, I'm not against you remarrying, but I absolutely don't agree with you lowering your standards and making do!"

Lu Chao, who was almost sixteen, was already taller than Jiang Yun, but he still looked up at Jiang Yun out of habit: "Dad, Uncle Morris has been in the military for so many years and is only a lieutenant colonel. How can he compare to..."

Jiang Yun ignored the tall boy squatting beside him and cut the steak slowly, "It's not comparable in any way."

Lu Chao almost bit his tongue in a hurry: "Huh?"

"So I refused." Jiang Yun divided the steak evenly between the twins, then raised his wrist to check the time and stood up. "Lu Chao, hand it to me when you're done with the homework."

Lu Chao was left there, looking confused.

The Jiang family villa has three floors. Maggie lives on the first floor and the twins live on the second floor. They will not easily go up to the third floor to disturb Jiang Yun.

When Jiang Mu knocked on the door, Jiang Yun had already taken off his tie. A few minutes ago, he had asked the housekeeper for coffee, but it was Jiang Mu who went upstairs.

This was just his son's way of showing affection, so Jiang Yun certainly didn't mind.

Jiang Mu walked into the room with coffee in hand and immediately saw the holographic projection floating above his father's desk. The boy exclaimed, "Is this the Foreign Minister of the Olin Empire, Ian Tang?"

"Yeah." Jiang Yun gestured for him to put the coffee on the table. "For the foreign affairs meeting next Thursday, Ian is the most core member of Olin's foreign affairs team."

"Ian Tang, known as Red-haired Ian because of his waist-length red hair, is also known as..." because of his slickness and cunning, and his unscrupulous approach to achieving diplomatic goals.

"Ian the Fool." Jiang Yun took over his son's words and asked, "How do you know this?"

Jiang Mu smiled and said, "I've learned a little bit about it during this period."

Jiang Yun nodded and asked, "So, what has your brother been busy with recently?"

Jiang Mu was stunned for a moment, his eyes wandering: "Make up, make up for the lessons."

Jiang Yun raised his eyebrows lightly.

Jiang Mu racked his brains first, then tried to make up a story, but finally, knowing he couldn't fool his father, he wisely chose to tell the truth: "Sleep."

Jiang Yun: “…”

The older twin brother was troubled by his younger brother's laziness: "I don't know who Lu Chao learned this from. It seems like he can never get enough sleep all day long."

Jiang Yun remained silent.

The boy paused, then naturally asked the second half of the question: "Dad, did father also like to sleep when he was on vacation?"

Jiang Mu regretted it as soon as he asked the question, but he couldn't take it back.

He waited anxiously for his father's answer, regretting why he suddenly blurted out the words without thinking, just like Lu Chao.

Jiang Yun rarely mentioned their other father at home.

When the two children were little, they often asked about their father. Their questions were always illogical. One question was "Dad, what kind of flowers does Dad like?", and the next question became "Dad, does Dad play with the little rubber duck when he takes a bath? Does Dad take a bath with Dad?"

Jiang Yun’s answer to them was always “not sure” or “I don’t know”.

But for this question today, Jiang Yun felt that he could give a different answer from the past.

He looked out the window, searching quietly in his distant yet short memories.

The wealthy neighborhood, with its abundant resources and fewest residents, was always quiet and peaceful on late autumn nights. The ginkgo tree I'd transplanted into the yard the year I moved was already three stories tall, its branches straining toward the sky, its fallen leaves dancing like golden butterflies beneath the lights.

It will be winter in another month.

By then, the leaves on the ginkgo trees will have withered, the twins will be wearing capes over their uniforms to go to school, and a layer of crystal frost will have formed on their bedroom windows.

Jiang Yun seemed to see such a scene.

On a snowy winter morning, in a warm bedroom, the young colonel pulled his newlywed wife to stay in bed with him, half-seriously complaining that he had not gotten enough sleep in the military.

Jiang Mu: "Dad?"

Jiang Yun came back to his senses and shook his head under his son's nervous and expectant gaze: "I'm not sure."

Jiang Mu was a little disappointed: "You don't even know this? Then..."

If Dad didn't sleep in the same bed with his father, how did he and his brother come into being?
