Chapter 29: Second Imprisonment
"Comrade Officer, I didn't..."
"No need to explain, I'll explain it to you in detail when we get to the police station."
As he spoke, he pressed Chu Qiao's shoulder with one hand and tried to pull Chu Qiao's arm with the other, a typical action of escorting a prisoner.
Chu Qiao instinctively wanted to resist, but she suppressed the impulse. Any movement would be an attack on the police, and she was not that stupid.
"Officer, I can walk on my own."
As she spoke, she took a quick step and avoided the police's touch.
In two days, he was called to the police station twice. Chu Qiao rolled his eyes at the three older brothers who were pretending to be pitiful.
Inside the police station, there was another room of the same appearance, with white walls all around and a table in the middle. Chu Qiao and the three big brothers sat on either side.
The police officer leaned against the table, constantly pressing the ballpoint pen in his hand to create a tense atmosphere.
"Tell me why you beat them?"
Chu Qiao's eyes widened, and the whites of his eyes were exposed.
"Officer, I was acting in self-defense."
"Stop talking nonsense. This was self-defense. You're not hurt at all. Why are they in this state?"
Chu Qiao: "Comrade officer, doesn't self-defense allow me to be more powerful than them? From beginning to end, I didn't take the initiative to attack. Besides, I have physical evidence."
The officer put down his pen and asked seriously, "Where is it?"
"That person was filming with his phone. You can see that they provoked me first, and I never attacked first. I was just protecting myself."
The police officer walked up to the man named Erhei and rudely took out his cell phone from his pocket.
He flipped it up and down, and the more he looked, the tighter his brows furrowed.
"Can I go now?" Chu Qiao said confidently.
"What do you think?" The police officer's face turned pale. He turned the screen of his mobile phone towards Chu Qiao and showed it to Chu Qiao page by page.
Chu Qiao was stunned. This guy didn't even record a video, he only took photos. The key point was that every scene he took was of the two men being beaten.
"The evidence is all here. What else do you have to quibble with?"
"Officer, these photos do look like I beat them, but I don't know them, and I have no grudge against them. I have no motive to hurt them."
The police officer looked at Chu Qiao impatiently and said, "Stop quibbling. They also said that they don't know you and we have no grudges against you. You were beaten for no reason."
Chu Qiao sighed. It was really hard to explain even though it made sense.
"So what are you going to do now?"
"What's your attitude? You beat someone up like this, you have to pay for the medical expenses, the lost wages, and apologize."
Chu Qiao shook his head: "I wouldn't do any of these. I was acting in self-defense and I won't apologize."
The police officer's brow furrowed, and he looked at Chu Qiao as if he were looking at a stubborn criminal: "Unless you have evidence, you must bear the consequences."
Chu Qiao thought no, no. Thinking carefully about the situation at that time, it was in a small alley. There were no onlookers, only... Lu Zhan.
"I have witnesses."
"Didn't you say there was no one around?"
"I remember a doctor had just finished bandaging my wound and was about to throw away the gauze when they came over. The doctor must have seen the scene."
"What's your name? Which hospital are you from?"
"He should be from the Beidou Military Hospital, his name is Lu Zhan."
"Do you have a cell phone number?"
"No."
"Which department?"
“I don’t know.”
The police officer's face fell, and he said to the person next to him: "Watch them, I'll go find the witness."
After saying that, he left the four of them alone in the empty room.
Chu Qiao crossed his arms, sat upright, and stared at the three hooligans.
The three men opposite lowered their heads one by one, afraid of meeting Chu Qiao's gaze.
The young police officer at the gate scratched his head. Why did it feel like Chu Qiao was interrogating these three grown men?
…
Lu Zhan was busy in the hospital. When the police officer came, he was looking at an X-ray of a patient in the operating room.
Patrolmen are generally young and inexperienced. They rushed directly into Lu Zhan's office and said, "Doctor Lu, there was an intentional injury case at the hospital entrance this afternoon. The suspect said you were at the scene. I want to get to know you."
Lu Zhan glanced at the patient. He hated being interrupted while seeing a doctor. He said coldly, "Officer, I'm working. Please leave."
"Doctor Lu, you have an obligation to cooperate with the investigation and provide clues."
Lu Zhan: "If you have anything to say, wait until my patient leaves."
The police officer was blocked outside the door. Half an hour later, the door lock was opened and the patient came out.
Lu Zhan has changed into black clothes.
"Let's go."
When we arrived at the police station, the most cowardly person was the guy who was taking pictures.
He lowered his head and recognized that it was this man who was holding himself.
"Doctor, please tell me what you saw. Please be careful not to exaggerate or distort the facts, or you will be held legally responsible."
Lu Zhan glanced at Chu Qiao and told him everything that had happened, including how he had tied one of the thugs to a tree.
Erhei pointed at Lu Zhan and shouted, "You and her are in cahoots."
Lu Zhan looked at the man with cold eyes. The man's next words lacked confidence and his voice became smaller and smaller.
"Oh, by the way, people are often robbed in that alley. The hospital installed surveillance cameras last month. The officer can go and check the surveillance."
The police officer's face instantly turned cold. He pointed at the three people and said, "Tell the truth now, and I can still get you to surrender. Otherwise..."
The one called Erhei was the most timid, and said timidly: "I'll tell you the truth."
"We were the ones who provoked this woman first."
"Why? Do you know her?"
The three of them shook their heads in unison.
"Hurry up and tell me."
The most timid one among them said, "We are being ..."
The eldest brother, called Brother Qiang, suddenly said, "We were just passing by and saw she was pretty, so we wanted to tease her."
The police officer looked at Chu Qiao with disdain. He had a nice figure, but the peeling skin on his face was unpleasant. How could these three people tease such a person?
"Still refusing to tell the truth?"
Brother Qiang was determined not to tell the truth: "The three of us were drunk and confused for a moment. Officer, please be merciful."
The officer seemed to relent. "You two, what can you do? Why tease someone like that... ahem, reflect on this."
Then he turned to Chu Qiao and said, "The matter has been investigated clearly. They provoked me first. You can leave now."
Chu Qiao: "What about them? My lost wages, my medical expenses, and an apology."
The police officer had already turned around, his face full of impatience: "I told you to leave, so leave."
Chu Qiao wanted to say something but Lu Zhan grabbed her and pulled her out of the police station.
"There's no point in pursuing this, let's go."
Chu Qiao was furious. "Doctor Lu, something is clearly wrong here. I don't know them at all. Two of them attacked me, and one took photos. They must have been instructed by someone."
Lu Zhan: "Even if we find out who ordered this, in Beidou Country, that person will at most be taught a lesson, but nothing will happen to them."
Chu Qiao's face darkened. She could imagine that this world favored boys over girls, but she didn't expect that male chauvinism was so strong that women's rights were not protected at all.
Chu Qiao came out of the police station and thanked Lu Zhan: "Thank you no matter what."
Lu Zhan: "Don't thank me, I'm just cooperating with the investigation."
After saying that, Lu Zhan turned and left.
After walking a few steps, he turned around and said, "By the way, the wound must not be exposed to water. Come to the hospital the day after tomorrow to change the dressing."
Chu Qiao didn't care about his minor injury at all, muttering, "What a Virgo, obsessive-compulsive disorder."
