After Li Ling and the other two returned from fetching water, Liu Ruoling started a fire while Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi cooked. Li Ling put some tapioca flour in a large bowl, added water to mix it, and then used the fish oil she had prepared to fry some cakes. In another pot, Liu Ruoxi first boiled a pig's trotter, then added some mushrooms, and then waited for it to cook. However, while the pig's trotter was stewing, Liu Ruoxi took a piece of wild boar meat with some fat, cut it into pieces the size of mahjong tiles, and then, after Li Ling finished frying the cakes, she used that pot to cook some braised pork. In the last pot, Li Ling planned to cook a wild vegetable soup, since they couldn't just eat meat; they also needed to eat some vegetables for a balanced diet and to be healthy.
Shortly after Wang Lun finished digging the ditch and returned to the house, the three women had already cooked dinner. The four of them sat down at the table to eat: a plate of flatbread, a large bowl of braised pork, half a pot of pig's trotters, and half a pot of wild vegetable soup—that was their dinner.
After lunch, they continued weaving straw sandals. Although they hadn't woven straw sandals for a few days, they hadn't forgotten their skills. The four of them still wove with good quality and speed. As usual, each person rested after finishing one sandal. However, because they had eaten early today, none of them felt sleepy after finishing their sandals.
So Wang Lun went outside and brought back a piece of wood, split it with a knife, and made a small cube. Then he had Li Ling and the others work together, making a total of fifty-four cubes. After making the fifty-four cubes, although they all knew what they wanted to make, they were now overcome with fatigue and just wanted to lie down and sleep.
So the four of them went to the toilet, washed up, and then went to sleep. Wang Lun was the last to return to the room, close the door, and then go to bed.
After these few days, most of the players on the island have reinforced their shelters, and those who were building houses have almost finished.
Team number twelve, led by Sun Rong, moved into their new shelter today. It's a semi-underground shelter. It's not very large, but it's sturdy and safe enough. The walls are made of tree trunks about ten centimeters thick, covered with a thick layer of mud. The roof is also constructed using thick branches, layered first, then thinner branches, then dry grass, then mud, and finally another layer of dry grass. It's truly insane—even more layers than Wang Lun's roof!
The entrance had sunken steps, and the eaves extended far beyond the doorway, preventing rainwater from flowing into the house. Of course, to further prevent rainwater from entering, Sun Rong and Liu Dazhu had added a threshold, ensuring that even if rainwater got in, it wouldn't flow directly into the house. Inside, to the left was a stove with a chimney that ran along the wall to the ceiling. On either side of the entrance were beds made of earth, covered with a layer of wood, then straw. Against the wall stood a shelf with tools and some food supplies. However, the food supplies seemed to be running low. This meant they didn't even have a fence, and they would have to go out to find food tomorrow.
Team 75, Tang Shengli and Zheng Yun, officially finished building their wooden cabin today. It's a very ordinary cabin, but although simple, it's definitely more comfortable than their current shelter. They decided to move in tomorrow. Although the cabin is currently empty, they'll sleep on the floor for now and gradually add various supplies. They also need to finish building the fence tomorrow; although part of it has been built, some parts are still unfinished.
Team number 88, Hao Yun and Han Yiyi, had already built their fence and were currently setting up camp while searching for food. Similar to Liu Ruoxi and her group, they were searching for food and building camp in the afternoon. They had a cave, which, although not very large, was sufficient for their needs. Moreover, they had now enclosed a piece of land, significantly expanding their living space. Their biggest problem was food; a shelter was actually adequate, given the cave's safety. This was the only team that hadn't yet built a camp, excluding those who planned to rely on the shelter for transportation.
As for Team 1, Wu Jing and Zhang Shengnan have been busy hunting, digging for wild vegetables, and gathering food. They basically don't need to build a new campsite, since their cave is large enough and there's a wall around it.
The next day, after breakfast, Wang Lun and his three companions set out together. Their only task for the day was chopping firewood. Wang Lun planned to chop firewood both today and tomorrow, aiming to collect enough for a month's use.
When the four arrived in the woods, Wang Lun and Liu Ruoling chopped firewood, while Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi carried small branches and arranged them so they could be easily bundled together later.
During the journey, Liu Ruoling would rest every now and then, and of course, Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi would also take a break at these times. Only Wang Lun took a break once in the morning, which was just to go to the toilet; otherwise, he probably wouldn't have rested at all.
It wasn't until the sun was directly overhead, and Li Ling and the other two were exhausted, that Wang Lun said, "Stop, let's stop chopping and go back to eat." The three immediately sat down on the ground to rest. Wang Lun then went to bundle up the firewood and twigs they had chopped that morning and put them away.
After Wang Lun finished tying up the firewood, Li Ling and the others had also rested. So Wang Lun put a bundle of firewood in each of their baskets and had them carry it on their backs, while he carried two bundles himself before setting off on his way back to camp.
After about half an hour, the four of them returned to the camp. Once back, Li Ling and the other two sat down to rest while Wang Lun went to fetch water to cook. This was Wang Lun's request, as their stamina couldn't match his. Although Wang Lun was also tired, he insisted on cooking for them. Li Ling, meanwhile, sat in front of the stove to tend the fire.
Soon, Wang Lun put the fish and wild vegetables into the pot, leaving the rest to simmer. He then went to sit for a while. After a few minutes, he got up to check on it. Opening the lid, he saw that the wild vegetables were cooked until soft and tender. He added some salt, stirred it a few times, and it was ready to eat.
Wang Lun urged the four of them to start eating. Although they were very tired in the morning and didn't have much of an appetite after resting, Wang Lun still insisted that everyone eat several bowls of food, otherwise they wouldn't have the energy to work in the afternoon. So Li Ling and the others had no choice but to eat the usual amount of food.
After lunch, Wang Lun waited until Li Ling and Liu Ruoling finished washing the dishes, then told everyone to rest on the kang (heated brick bed) and take a nap. The wood-chopping wasn't urgent for now; having enough energy was crucial for completing the task. Wang Lun himself definitely needed rest too, otherwise he wouldn't have enough energy for the afternoon's work. But he wanted to take a shower first after they rested before going to sleep, as that would be more comfortable.
