Chapter 39 Ginseng, Ganoderma, and Rockfish (1/2)

Zhao Guohua was already covered in injuries, and after carrying manure all morning, he was so tired that his back was about to break. He was also starving. But now, in order to get some food, he didn't say anything and quickly went into the house to get some grain.

He sat down and was about to eat when he was stopped again. "You've already paid your grain tax, and it's not enough. You haven't done any work, so we didn't cook for you this time. If you want to eat, cook for yourself."

Zhao Guohua wanted to get angry, but having already experienced Li Xiyue's prowess, he now had the desire but not the courage. He suppressed his anger and took out some money from his pocket, "I'll pay you to buy it, okay?"

Huang Xinrui glanced at the five cents but remained unmoved.

She doesn't care about a dollar and fifty cents, so who would want it?

Wang Jiaxing was intrigued. He took the money and said with a smile, "You eat mine, and I'll make another one."

Huang Xinrui was about to say something when Li Xiyue stopped her.

Wang Jiaxing was in poor condition and needed money. Fortunately, Zhao Guohua, a willing sucker, was willing to give him money to buy food. They were both willing to give and receive, so there was no need to interfere too much.

Huang Xinrui pouted and said, "Starting today, we'll work in groups and take turns. Yueyue and I will be in one group, and Wang Zhiqing, you and he will be in another group."

When Zhao Guohua was mentioned, the disdain in his eyes was almost overflowing.

“You two women will find it difficult to do heavy work like fetching water and gathering firewood. Why don’t you work together as a couple?” Wang Jiaxing suggested.

Huang Xinrui refused, saying, "Yueyue and I don't want to be in the same group as him. We can manage."

The water source isn't far; the well is right in the yard, so it's just a matter of making a few more trips.

Li Xiyue also felt that she was no weaker than the men. She was incredibly strong, and fetching water or gathering firewood was a piece of cake for her.

Moreover, she often goes up the mountain to collect herbs, and she can also gather some firewood along the way.

"Alright, I'll help you guys out when I have time." Wang Jiaxing didn't insist.

He remembered that Li Xiyue was someone who could lift Zhao Guohua up with one hand; for her, fetching water and gathering firewood was not heavy work.

It's amazing how a seemingly frail girl possesses such great strength.

Li Xiyue added, "We each wash our own clothes, and take turns doing other chores."

Wang Jiaxing agreed, "Consider it as what you did today, and Zhao Zhiqing and I will do it tomorrow."

Zhao Guohua had no objection, nor dared to. He wolfed down his food, never before having felt that eating was such a blissful experience.

His family was well-off; he had never gone hungry or suffered hardship. But now that he's been sent to the countryside, he's not only being beaten and suffering, but also going hungry. Life is too difficult for him.

After quickly finishing lunch and taking a short nap, Li Xiyue packed a bag of brown sugar into her basket before heading out to work, as she was going to Xu Dashan's house for dinner that evening.

In the afternoon, Li Xiyue went up the mountain to collect herbs again. Xu Xiangyang did not come, and Xu Guoqing and Hu Zi went to the river to catch fish. Uncle Xu Liu had to watch the cattle and could not leave, so she went up the mountain alone.

Li Xiyue decided to take Xiaobai to the deep mountains.

After reaching the mountain, Xiaobai said there was no one around, so Li Xiyue took Xiaobai into her spatial dimension and teleported to the deep mountains.

The deep mountains were densely wooded, damp and cold, with occasional calls of unknown birds and strange, mournful noises that were somewhat eerie.

Fortunately, with Xiaobai around, Li Xiyue wasn't afraid. "Xiaobai, help me scout the way."

Little White barked twice in response and ran ahead.

Li Xiyue could only understand Xiaobai's speech; she couldn't understand the language of other animals. She guessed that perhaps there was some connection between Xiaobai and the space, which was why she could understand Xiaobai's words.

Just like in some fantasy novels, Xiaobai became the spirit of the space by chance.

However, after a moment of distraction, Xiaobai returned and told her that there were good things ahead.
