Chapter 20 I'm not staying any longer...
Chapter Twenty: No More Waiting
Yu Canghai fainted and remained unconscious for a long time. Everyone else stood up and accused Yu Canghai and the Qingcheng Sect.
The Qingcheng Sect disciples were surrounded and berated. Knowing they were no match for them, they could only tremble in fear. Then, they seized the opportunity to carry Yu Canghai away. With them gone, the crowd was left without anyone to blame, and for a moment, they felt somewhat awkward.
Lin Zhennan, a man of social graces, stepped in to smooth things over, saying some polite but unspoken words that saved face for everyone. With both face and substance restored, the crowd dispersed, no longer circling the Fuwei Escort Agency.
Yesterday, the Fuwei Escort Agency was on the verge of collapse, seemingly on the verge of extinction, with the entire family of three and the rest of the agency heading to the underworld. Now, however, the matter of the Evil-Slaying Sword Manual has been resolved, and no one in the martial arts world dares to continue to harass them.
In just two short days, the situation has been reversed from what should have been a settled outcome.
Lin Zhennan and his two companions felt a mix of bittersweet emotions and relief. They wanted to turn around and properly thank their family's benefactor, but when they did, they found that Ling Hao had already disappeared.
"Why did they leave so soon?" Lin Pingzhi lamented. "I wanted to become their apprentice." He felt that all those heroes of the martial arts world he had admired were just deceiving him. They didn't have a sense of justice or fairness; all they cared about was their own face and their own benefits.
Ling Hao was different. She worked tirelessly for the Fuwei Escort Agency, not for any personal gain, nor for any sword manual, but simply because she wanted to save people. In Lin Pingzhi's eyes, this was the most deserving hero of the martial world.
Lin Pingzhi wanted to become Ling Hao's apprentice, but before he could even bring it up, she left. Sigh. Thinking about this filled him with regret.
Madam Lin reached out and gently poked Lin Pingzhi's head. "Do you think you're some kind of genius? Your martial arts skills are mediocre at best. Even if our benefactor were choosing a disciple, he would definitely choose someone intelligent and obedient. You spend your days playing around. Did our benefactor choose you just to annoy himself?"
She didn't want to say such harsh words to Lin Pingzhi, but she had no other choice. Previously, Madam Lin believed that the Fuwei Escort Agency would always protect Lin Pingzhi, so even if his martial arts skills were lacking, it didn't matter; he just wanted to live a carefree and happy life.
However, this incident made Madam Lin realize something: the martial world is full of threats, and those without ability can easily be swept into the whirlpool and swallowed up. Therefore, she hoped that Lin Pingzhi could pull himself together and at least learn some martial arts so that he could protect himself in the future.
Lin Pingzhi was so angry that he jumped up and down. "Hmph, Mother, just you wait and see. I will definitely improve. Then I will show my benefactor that I have the qualifications to become her disciple."
Although his benefactor has indeed left, he remembered that she was a disciple of the Huashan Sect's Sword Clan. This means that if he goes to the Huashan Sect in the future, he'll definitely be able to stake out her; it's a classic case of "the monk may run away, but the temple won't!"
Wait, something doesn't seem right. Lin Pingzhi, whose martial arts and academics were both mediocre, felt something was off, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He realized that besides practicing martial arts more, he also needed to read more books.
Meanwhile, Linghao headed towards the small teahouse on the official road outside Fuzhou. Yes, she planned to follow Yue Buqun and Yue Lingshan, because that way she could find Linghu Chong, defeat him, and fulfill her master's request.
As for the Fuwei Escort Agency, she absolutely couldn't stay there any longer. Their excessive hospitality made her feel extremely uncomfortable. She simply wanted to save people; she shouldn't accept any of the added benefits of being treated like a benefactor.
Wait… Ling Hao abruptly stopped, standing on a rooftop lost in thought. Wait a minute, she can already defeat so many people, why does she still need to follow Yue Buqun and Yue Lingshan to find Linghu Chong? She could skip Linghu Chong and challenge Yue Buqun directly.
Defeating the senior disciple of a sect and defeating the sect leader are completely different feelings. Today, I felt so incredibly powerful that I was able to make a more accurate assessment of my own martial arts skills.
Since even Yu Canghai and his group couldn't succeed in attacking her together, it proves she's truly formidable. In that case, she must have defeated Yue Buqun to please her master. After all, he's a disciple of the Sword Sect, and the Sword Sect lost the Mount Hua competition; if she could get revenge, wouldn't he be overjoyed?
“Yeah, I should just go find Yue Buqun.” Ling Hao patted his forehead. “Really, I just couldn’t wrap my head around it for a moment, I kept getting hung up on Linghu Chong.”
That said, Linghao felt that while the Huashan Sect wasn't a large sect, it had significant problems. A sect only has so many people; while the previous generation was powerful, the next generation was utterly incompetent. Linghao genuinely felt there was something wrong with the Huashan Sect; it didn't have many members, yet it was divided into the Sword Sect and the Qi Sect.
Originally, if they had worked together properly, the Huashan Sect would have had a chance to be among the first to return to the ranks of martial arts sects. However, the Huashan Sect members fought amongst themselves, and ruthlessly at that, leading to a decline in talent and making the hope of reviving the Huashan Sect's glory slim.
Having figured it out, Ling Hao's footsteps became even lighter. Soon, she reached a deserted open space, and her expression immediately changed. "Who's there? Come out!"
"You are very perceptive." A gust of wind blew by, and a person wearing a red dress and a veiled hat appeared in front of Linghao.
"Who are you?" Ling Hao felt a little awkward because the person in front of her was indeed quite tall. Standing next to each other, she seemed to be a bit short.
She was displeased, so she drew her sword.
