Chapter 2
The next day, low voices were heard on the veranda.
"I heard that Master Liu is back."
"Oh, really? Did Miss Xu come back with you?"
"Then the Third Madam must be furious, right?"
Gu Qingyue leaned against the pillow and listened. Her right arm felt slightly numb. She raised her forearm and realized that she had been holding the pendant while sleeping all night.
The pendant had been warm all night and now felt a little warm to the touch.
Mother Gu opened the curtain and saw Gu Qingyue still lying on the bed, rubbing her right wrist with one hand. She asked, "What's wrong?"
Gu Qingyue frowned and said, "My hands are numb."
"Who told you to sleep holding the pendant all night?" Mother Gu sat down on the edge of the bed and touched Gu Qingyue's face. "Wash up, wash up, and get up quickly. Your third aunt is here."
Gu Qingyue wrapped herself in a blanket, resting her head on her mother's lap, and said in a little-daughter manner, "Is Sixth Uncle here? Where's Miss Xu?"
Mother Gu tapped Gu Qingyue's eyebrows with her finger and said, "When you meet your third aunt later, don't mention this matter to her. She is already very angry about this matter."
Gu Qingyue raised her hand and rubbed her forehead, then said softly, "I see, but that Miss Xu is really pretty."
Mother Gu patted her shoulder and said, "Hurry up and get up."
After Gu Qingyue finished washing up and changed her clothes, she came out from behind the wooden screen when she heard her third aunt's voice: "Hey, Zhaoruo, this is Qingyue, she looks more and more beautiful."
Gu Qingyue smiled and called her third aunt.
The three of them went to the side hall to have breakfast. Gu Qingyue drank the porridge with her eyes fixed on her nose and her nose focused on her heart, listening to the conversation between her mother Gu and her third aunt.
My third aunt said, "Qingyue is a senior this year. Have you made any friends in college?"
Mother Gu glanced at Gu Qingyue and said with a smile, "She is still childish."
Third Aunt sighed deeply and said, "Indeed, daughters are easier to raise. Look at what Yisheng did. It gives me a headache just thinking about it now. Fortunately, I'm not very good at using today's communication equipment."
Mother Gu smiled and comforted her third aunt.
Gu Qingyue used a celadon spoon to scoop the porridge from the porcelain bowl. The tip of her shoe quietly touched the toe of Gu's mother's shoe under the table. Gu's mother glanced at her and said, "When you're full, go out for a walk to help digest the food."
When Gu Qingyue heard this, she felt as if she had been pardoned.
Hearing this, the third aunt said: "It's a bit boring to listen to us old people chatting, right?"
Gu Qingyue pursed her lips and said, "Not bad."
Third Aunt smiled and said, "Your sixth uncle and aunt are all in the yard. Go and play with them. It's more lively when young people are together."
Gu Qingyue came out of the side hall and walked slowly along the eaves.
A ginger cat was nestled under the eaves of the porch. Gu Qingyue walked over, squatted down, and raised her hand to tease it a few times. The ginger cat, with its aloof nature, ignored her, slowly stood up, turned around, and walked forward leisurely.
Gu Qingyue had nothing to do, so she suddenly felt like a child and followed the orange cat, strolling along the way to kill time.
Until the orange cat brought her to a pavilion and a waterside terrace, she heard faint laughter. Gu Qingyue was about to turn around and leave when someone called out to her, "Qingyue."
Gu Qingyue turned and stepped forward. She wasn't very good at dealing with these elders. There were so many of them in this pavilion, so she could only smile, a little reserved: "Seventh Aunt, Sixth Uncle, Minmin."
Gu Simin is in her third year of high school. She is the daughter of her fourth aunt and the youngest in the Gu family. Due to the family's seniority, Gu Qingyue has to call her "little aunt". However, because the age difference between the two is not big and Gu Simin is three years younger than Gu Qingyue, Gu Qingyue always calls her by her name when she is not in front of Old Man Gu.
Gu Yisheng joked, "Hey, Qingyue, why did you skip Uncle San?"
Gu Qingyue felt a little uncomfortable. Just as she was about to speak, Gu Sang pulled her down to sit on a stone bench and helped her out. "Third Brother Ren has no objection, so why are you so anxious?"
Gu Yisheng smiled.
Gu Simin rested her chin on one hand and tilted her head. "Hey, Uncle Six, could you get me some autographed photos of Ms. Xu? One of my friends is a fan."
Gu Yisheng raised his hand and patted Gu Min's forehead: "Little girl, are you deliberately teasing your sixth brother?"
Gu Simin looked confused and didn't understand what was going on. When Gu Yisheng didn't believe her, she emphasized, "Sixth brother, my friend really likes actress Xu. Please, please."
Gu Sang burst out laughing.
Gu Simin turned to look at Gu Sang: "Seventh sister, what are you laughing at?"
Gu Sang said seriously, "Minmin, please don't mention this to your third aunt."
"Why?" Gu Simin asked in confusion.
Gu Sang glanced at Gu Qingyue and said in a riddle, "Ask your niece."
Gu Simin's round eyes turned to Gu Qingyue, who was sipping tea. Hearing this, the warm tea flowed down her throat, nearly choking her. She looked up, meeting Gu Simin's devout, inquiring expression, and wondered whether she should speak or not.
At this time, Gu Yisheng spoke up: "Okay, Sixth Brother promises you this, but don't mention it to your Third Aunt."
Gu Sang added, "I'm not saying anything, Sixth Brother, you should just take it easy. Look at Third Brother, he doesn't have any of these romantic affairs."
Gu Qingyue picked up the teacup and took a sip of tea.
Gu Hengsheng, wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt and black trousers, sat in a rocking chair, the orange cat curled up lazily at his feet. Behind him was a vast expanse of smoke, and the conversation around him seemed to have nothing to do with him.
A gust of wind blew by, and he raised his hand slightly and pressed down the journal that was rustling in the wind with one hand.
Gu Qingyue was a little curious. Was the journal in his hand really that good-looking? She glanced at it twice out of the corner of her eye. Because he was slightly nearsighted, the handwriting was just a hazy shadow in her eyes.
Gu Yisheng didn't take it seriously and smiled, "Third brother is also a married man, so naturally he can't be as relaxed and comfortable as me, a lonesome person."
A few of them were laughing and talking when they suddenly heard a crisp childish voice behind them: "Third Uncle."
A pink figure rushed over, two white and tender hands rested on Gu Hengsheng's knees, tilted her head back, and called out repeatedly, "Third Uncle, Third Uncle."
Gu Hengsheng put down the magazine in his hand and held the little girl on his lap.
Behind the little girl, a woman walked in. She was wearing a beige high-necked cashmere sweater and a black knitted skirt. She looked to be in her twenties and had a gentle temperament.
Gu Sang looked at the newcomer and greeted him, "Fourth sister-in-law, where is Fourth Brother?"
Liang Wan: "It's at Dad's place."
Gu Qingyue clutched her cup, feeling bored but unable to leave immediately. Gu Simin was working on a few questions, and she was having trouble with them, so she quietly asked Gu Qingyue about them. Gu Qingyue explained them one by one in a low voice.
Liang Wan set her eyes on Gu Qingyue and asked, "Qingyue, what year are you in this year?"
"Senior year." Gu Qingyue answered softly.
Liang Wan smiled: "The last time I saw you, you were still in high school."
The last time Gu Qingyue met Liang Wan was four years ago, at the wedding of Liang Wan and her fourth uncle Gu Linsheng.
Gu Yisheng leaned against the eaves, holding a piece of cake in his hand, breaking it into pieces to feed the fish in the lake.
Liang Wan took a sip of tea and said, "It seems that Sixth Brother is not in a good mood today."
Gu Sang glanced at Gu Yisheng, who had his back to them, smiled mysteriously, and said, "He's a man who's used to being surrounded by beautiful women, so he wouldn't be bothered by any beautiful woman."
Liang Wan reached out and took a candy from the fruit bowl and said, "Sixth brother is still the same old man."
Hearing this, Gu Yisheng's eyes fell on Liang Wan, with a faint smile on his face: "Isn't this the same as drinking today? I'm not like my fourth brother, who entered the siege early."
Liang Wan peeled off the candy wrapper, revealing a peanut candy inside. She frowned slightly, then after a moment, her brows curved slightly as she smiled, "Then I wish Sixth Brother a happy night like this."
Hearing this, Gu Yisheng's eyes dimmed slightly. He took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, knocked a cigarette out of the box, put it in his mouth and bit it.
Gu Xin was sitting on Gu Hengsheng's lap at the moment. Gu Hengsheng was holding an orange in his hand. He peeled it and fed a segment of the orange to the little girl. Gu Hengsheng slowly said, "Yisheng, there is a child here."
Gu Yisheng paused for a moment as he lit the cigarette. After a while, he put away the lighter and took the cigarette out of his mouth. He held the cigarette between his fingers, glanced at Liang Wan who was talking to Gu Sang with lowered brows, and then looked away again.
