The plane carrying Gu Yan and Wang Boyang landed smoothly on the soil of Country Y on the night of New Year's Eve.
As soon as Gu Yan stepped off the train, his eyes were immediately fixed on the person who had come to pick him up.
The man was holding a sign that clearly read "Gu Yan".
Gu Yan and Wang Boyang hurried up to the man, carefully checked the relevant information, and then he pulled the luggage and they went together to Gu Hongxi's residence.
The car sped along, and a few snowflakes began to fall from the dark sky.
They eventually arrived at a manor in the suburbs.
A castle-like building, seemingly straight out of a fairy tale, suddenly appeared before their eyes.
Snowflakes fell thick and fast, draping the entire manor in a pristine white cloak. The distant mountains, also blanketed in snow, blended seamlessly with the snow-covered manor, resembling a vast, endless white dragon.
The manor's ancient buildings appeared even more solemn and majestic in the snow. The towering spires were weighed down by thick snow. On the brick and stone walls, the ice and snow outlined unique patterns, as if they were masterpieces of art sculpted by the skillful hand of nature.
Gu Yan and Wang Boyang were led into the manor, and both looked around.
The trees surrounding the manor had long since lost their leaves, their branches laden with glistening icicles that shimmered dreamlike under the streetlights. Occasionally, a gust of cold wind would blow, and the snow on the branches would fall in a soft rustling sound, like a miniature blizzard.
In one corner of the manor, the horses in the stables quietly chewed their hay, their manes standing on end slightly from the cold. In the kennels nearby, several hunting dogs huddled together for warmth.
As they got closer, Wang Boyang's eyes widened as he stared at the enormous castle that stood before him like a giant. He couldn't help but whisper to Gu Yan, "Your mother is quite wealthy."
Gu Yan frowned slightly, his expression somewhat complicated, but said, "It might not be hers; it might be a maid."
Just then, a woman hurriedly came out.
On a cold winter night, the wind howled, and the woman's shawl fluttered gently in the breeze.
Although they hadn't seen each other for over a decade, Gu Yan recognized Gu Hongxi at a glance—his mother who had heartlessly abandoned him for over ten years.
Time seemed to have left its mark on her face, but her familiar features and expression remained deeply etched in Gu Yan's memory. His body trembled slightly, his heart churning with complex emotions—resentment, longing, and a hint of unspoken expectation.
Wang Boyang carefully observed Gu Yan's reaction, noticing the slight redness in the corners of his eyes, and moved closer to him.
The moment Gu Hongxi saw Gu Yan, tears welled up in her eyes.
“Xiao Yan, my child…” Her voice trembled with guilt.
Gu Yan stared at her coldly, without uttering a word. The resentment in his heart made it impossible for him to easily forgive his mother, who had not been by his side for so many years.
Gu Hongxi tried to calm herself down and said, "Child, Mom knows I'm sorry. I've been thinking about you every moment of these years."
Gu Yan was filled with mixed emotions. He didn't know whether he should believe the woman in front of him. For more than ten years, she had vanished as if she had disappeared from the face of the earth. Now she said she missed him—how ridiculous!
Gu Hongxi saw Wang Boyang standing close to Gu Yan. After looking him up and down, a very complicated expression appeared on her face. She seemed somewhat agitated, and her voice trembled as she asked, "What... what is your relationship?" Her tone was accusatory and incredulous.
Gu Yan keenly sensed Gu Hongxi's thoughts, and a surge of resentment towards Gu Hongxi welled up in his heart instantly.
Driven by a desire for revenge, he grabbed Wang Boyang's hand without hesitation and intertwined their fingers.
A current immediately surged through Wang Boyang's hand, quickly spreading throughout his body.
Gu Yan said firmly, "He is my boyfriend." His gaze was fixed on Gu Hongxi, as if he were declaring war on her.
Upon hearing this, Wang Boyang, who was still excited, showed a surprised expression. He had not expected Gu Yan to say such a thing and was momentarily at a loss for words.
Gu Hongxi was indeed enraged. Her voice rose several decibels as she shouted, "How is this possible, Gu Yan? How could you like a boy?" Her face turned pale, and her eyes were filled with anger and disappointment.
Gu Yan did not back down at all. He gripped Wang Boyang's hand even tighter, as if drawing infinite strength from that clenched grip. His eyes burned with anger as he stubbornly replied, "Why is it impossible?"
“When you were little, you clearly liked little girls.” Gu Hongxi’s voice was choked with tears as she tried to refute Gu Yan with her past memories.
“You said it yourself, that was when I was a child. People change.” Gu Yan’s voice was cold and resolute, and there was no hint of backing down on his face.
Gu Hongxi's voice was almost a roar: "Gu Yan, you're ruining yourself, you're willingly degenerating, do you even realize that!"
Gu Yan sneered and retorted, "I know in my heart whether I'll ruin myself or not. Did you think of me when you abandoned me? What right do you have to judge my life now!"
"I had my reasons!" Gu Hongxi shouted hysterically, her hands trembling uncontrollably.
Gu Yan's eyes widened in anger as he roared, "Difficulties? What difficulties could have allowed you to ignore me for over a decade! Your so-called difficulties are just meddling in my feelings now?"
"I am your mother, and I don't want to see you go astray!" Gu Hongxi gasped for breath, trying to calm herself down.
Gu Yan gritted his teeth and said fiercely, "Wrong path? Liking boys is a wrong path? You've lived in Y country for so long, how can your thinking be so backward?"
Gu Hongxi calmed herself down. "You two aren't in that kind of relationship, right? Are you just being stubborn with me?"
"No, we're lovers, we've been for a long time." Gu Yan's voice echoed in the cold air.
At this moment, Wang Boyang anxiously wanted to offer some advice, but didn't know where to begin.
Gu Hongxi said, "Let's not talk about this now. Let's go back inside; it's cold outside." Her voice carried a hint of pleading, and her eyes were full of expectation.
Gu Hongxi walked to Gu Yan's side and tried to grab his hand, but Gu Yan abruptly pulled his hand back, his face full of resistance, and shouted, "Don't touch me!"
Gu Hongxi's hand froze in mid-air, tears welling up in her eyes. She choked out, "Child, Mom knows she was wrong. Come inside with Mom and let's have a good talk."
Gu Yan remained unmoved, turned his head, and said coldly, "What's there to talk about? Say what you have to say here. I'm going home after that."
Seeing this, Wang Boyang said softly, "Gu Yan, why don't we go inside and talk? It's really too cold outside."
Gu Yan glanced at Wang Boyang, who was covered in snowflakes.
Gu Yan remained silent for a moment, but eventually reluctantly took a step, maintaining a distance from Gu Hongxi.
