Chapter 46 The Reason He Didn't Get Married

"Sweetie, I have to go out for a bit now. Wait for me to come back." Lu Yuzhi gently stroked her face with his thumb, his eyes filled with deep reluctance.

He walked to the door, then turned back, carefully explaining, afraid of upsetting her. "There's a dinner party I have to go to. I didn't bring you along because I was afraid those demons and monsters would scare you."

Li Peiyu remained silent.

"You must wait for me, do you hear me?" Lu Yuzhi's tone was gentle, with a pleading quality.

"Speak." Not getting the answer he wanted, Lu Yuzhi's tone became sharp.

"I'll wait for you," Li Peiyu replied softly.

Lu Yuzhi received a satisfactory answer, and his tone softened again, "Good girl."

He then gently placed a kiss on her forehead.

As soon as Lu Yuzhi left, Li Peiyu began checking the high-speed rail schedules back to S City.

There will be one in half an hour.

Li Peiyu left a note for Lu Yuzhi, then hurriedly went out, hailed a taxi, and rushed to the high-speed rail station.

On the high-speed train, Li Peiyu leaned her head against the window. It was pitch black outside, with only a few scattered lights.

Leaving Lu Yuzhi, she felt a pang of pain in her heart, but she had a bad feeling that she had better stay away from Lu Yuzhi, or she would get hurt.

Suddenly, her phone rang. Li Peiyu looked down and saw that an unfamiliar number had added her.

She is Qiao An, Lu Yuzhi's secretary.

Qiao An sent Li Peiyu a photo. The photo showed many people eating around a large round table. In the center of the photo were Lu Yuzhi and a girl.

The girl sat quietly, like a serene orchid in full bloom.

Her jet-black hair was carefully styled into a bun, with a few strands falling around her fair neck, adding to her gentle beauty.

Her face was as white as snow, like exquisite porcelain; her features were delicate and petite; her large, watery eyes were clear and bright. Her cherry-like lips were naturally red.

She wore an elegant cheongsam that perfectly accentuated her graceful figure. The embroidered patterns on the cheongsam were subtly visible, adding a touch of classical charm to her.

Qiao An sent another message: Qin Mingyue, Lu Yu's blind date tonight. Look up the rest yourself.

Looking at the photo, Li Peiyu couldn't deny a pang of pain in her heart. It seemed her premonition was right; a woman's intuition is terrifyingly accurate.

Li Peiyu turned off her phone screen and snorted inwardly. She wasn't going to investigate; what did it have to do with her?

After a long while, Li Peiyu finally couldn't resist her own ulterior motives and took out her phone to unlock it.

As soon as you enter Qin Mingyue's name, news about her floods your phone screen.

Qin Mingyue, the youngest granddaughter of the Qin family, is an internationally renowned pianist.

At 24, she won so many awards in international piano competitions that her hands cramped up.

Young and beautiful, successful in her career, she realized her value in life at a young age and returned from France three days ago.

Clicking on one of the interviews, the reporter asked her, "Ms. Qin, what is the reason for your return to China this time?"

Qin Mingyue smiled gently, "My dream of playing the piano has come true, now it's time to think about marriage."

The reporter continued, "So, is your marriage partner Lu Yuzhi?"

Qin Mingyue smiled shyly and did not answer directly, "I think marriage depends on whether fate allows it."

Li Peiyu read many articles and got a general understanding.

The Qin and Lu families had long intended to form a marriage alliance.

The Qin family wants Qin Mingyue to marry Lu Yuzhi. Although the Qin family is not as powerful as the Lu family, their granddaughter has the advantage of being young.

Grandpa Lu also took a liking to Qin Mingyue, but Qin Mingyue was still quite young at that time.

This is also why Old Master Lu was able to let Lu Yuzhi remain unmarried; they were all waiting for Madam Lu to come of age.

Li Peiyu felt like she was the other woman.

Looking at the photo of Lu Yuzhi and Qin Mingyue on his phone again, he felt dizzy and unwell, and a bitter taste seemed to rise in his stomach.

It was already past midnight when I got back to S City. The school had already closed its gates, but I had my ID card in my bag.

Last time, she missed the gate with Gu Yan. Gu Yan had her ID card with him, and she got it back and has kept it in her bag ever since.

Li Peiyu impulsively booked a presidential suite for herself to soothe her wounded heart.

Meanwhile, Lu Yuzhi finished the dinner and rushed back to the hotel, only to find a note left by Li Peiyu.

I've returned to S City.

I won't show up in front of you, so please don't show up in front of me either.

Lu Yuzhi crumpled the piece of paper in his hand into a ball, clenched it tightly, his face turned gloomy, and a raging fire burned in his eyes.

He thought about her all night, but she was lying to him.

Lu Yu threw away the crumpled paper in his hand, rushed out the door, and drove back to S City overnight.

What good would it do to come back here? He had no idea where she was right now.

He drove to her school gate like a ghost, but he knew in his heart that curfew had long passed and she couldn't possibly be at school.

She picked up her phone, but didn't know her number. She cruelly blocked him and demanded that he block her too.

I miss someone terribly, but I can't say a single word to her.

Lu Yuzhi slumped over the steering wheel, his heart feeling as if gripped tightly by an invisible hand. The pain she had caused him surged through his body like a tidal wave. Every cell seemed to be enduring this torment.

Her every smile, every gesture, kept flashing through his mind. Those moments they had shared were like sharp thorns, piercing his heart again and again.

He was abandoned again.

Li Peiyu never loved him. Even if he was the one who broke up with him first, could he just leave so decisively?

Every day they were apart, every minute and every second he thought of her.

He missed her so much he felt like he was suffocating, but she seemed to have completely forgotten about him, without the slightest bit of concern or longing.

After the intense grief subsided like a receding tide, Lu Yuzhi sat there quietly, his eyes vacant and unfocused, staring blankly ahead, as if his soul had been extinguished.

Okay, then so be it, may we never see each other again.

From then on, they went their separate ways and had nothing to do with each other.

Lu Yuzhi turned the steering wheel expressionlessly, drove slowly away, and returned to the desolate villa.

He went into the room, opened the closet, and haphazardly stuffed the pillow, pajamas, and underwear that Li Peiyu had once taken into a bag, then carried it away.

He wanted to throw it somewhere he could never find it again.

After walking two miles carrying the bag, Lu Yuzhi had vented most of his resentment. He was exhausted and sleepy, and his head was starting to spin.

He stopped and stared at the bag in his hand for a moment, then gritted his teeth and threw it forcefully into the smelly trash can by the roadside.

He threw away all memories related to her, and also threw away the last trace of attachment and reluctance in his heart.

She was ruthless, but he was even more ruthless.
