Chapter 37 "And she even had a crush on you in high school, and you don't even..."
Xu Zhisui's wedding preparations were not rushed, but she personally took care of everything, from the wedding banquet and the four main wedding attendants to the guest list, wedding candy, and invitations.
These past few days, Xu Zhisui and Shen Siqi have been running all over Linhai to choose a wedding photography studio. Her calves are still sore and swollen. She tried on five different dresses and she feels like she's about to fall apart.
"If it weren't for the large number of elders in my family to invite, I really wouldn't want to have this wedding." Xu Zhisui changed into casual clothes and leaned back on the velvet sofa, panting as she complained, "After all this trouble, a destination wedding would be much more convenient and carefree."
"Are you suffering from wedding anxiety?" Su Cheng teased with a smile.
“Actually, for most guests, a wedding is just about social interactions and going through the motions. They only care about whether the food is good and when it will be served.” Su Cheng walked around behind Xu Zhisui and gently massaged the stiff muscles on her shoulders. “Don’t worry too much. The most important thing is your own feelings.”
“Exactly!” Wei Manman nodded repeatedly. “Last year, my cousin got married, and the font on the invitation alone was changed several times. In fact, nobody cares about these details.”
Yang Shi stepped forward and gently patted Xu Zhisui's leg, "You, all you have to do is stand there looking beautiful on the wedding day and stun everyone!"
Xu Zhisui gently squeezed Su Cheng's hand, and her tense shoulders visibly relaxed.
"You guys go try on your dresses first." She waved to the three of them, bent down to loosen her high heels, and said, "I'll sit here and rest for a while."
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Wei Manman and Yang Shi chatted and laughed as they walked downstairs, with Su Cheng following behind.
She had just touched the stair railing when she heard a soft hiss behind her.
Su Cheng turned her head at the sound and saw Xu Zhisui leaning against the sofa armrest taking off her high heels.
As she lifted her foot, her high heels, which had been completely hidden by her skirt, were revealed. The silver stiletto heels were studded with rhinestones and sparkled under the lights, appearing to be at least ten centimeters high.
"Does your foot hurt?" Su Cheng walked back quickly, squatted down, and placed Xu Zhisui's foot on her knee.
Two transparent blisters were bulging side by side on her delicate heel. One of them had already burst, and blood was seeping from under the peeling dead skin, mixed with tissue fluid and sticking to the skin.
The other foot wasn't much better; the skin on the heel was rubbed off, and the outside of the big toe was also rubbed raw.
Su Cheng gasped, "You're being too ruthless to yourself for the sake of beauty."
"You definitely need to wear high heels to look good when trying on wedding dresses." Xu Zhisui pulled her foot back and stuck out her tongue innocently. "Who knew these shoes were such a beautiful waste? They're worn out like this after only a short while."
Su Cheng was wearing white canvas shoes today, the same size as Xu Zhisui.
As a woman herself, she knew all too well the pain of rubbing against the feet. Now that her feet were injured like this, if she were to slip into those high heels that rubbed against her feet again, she probably wouldn't even be able to walk.
She sat down on the sofa, bent down and deftly untied her shoelaces, switching her canvas shoes with Xu Zhisui's high heels. "You can wear mine for now, flat shoes will be more comfortable."
As he spoke, he pressed the heel of the canvas shoe down with his hand, "Just step here, wear it like a slipper."
Xu Zhisui nuzzled Su Cheng's cheek, touched, then suddenly became worried, "Are you sure you're okay wearing high heels? Don't let your feet get blistered later."
"It's okay, I have socks to protect me." Su Cheng tugged at the sock top at her ankle and blinked. "Besides, I have thick skin, it won't get chafed."
Xu Zhisui burst out laughing at her joke, and the injury on her foot seemed to lessen a bit.
"What are you two up to in secret?" Wei Manman's voice came from the stairs. She ran up the stairs carrying her dress. "Su Su, I've brought your dress."
Wei Manman glanced at Xu Zhisui's feet, which were rubbed red from wearing canvas shoes, and then looked at the pair of ten-centimeter stilettos next to her. She clasped her hands in a gesture of respect and said, "Going out wearing torture devices, sister, you really are a monster."
Yang Shi silently followed, hissed when she saw the wound, and quickly took out a band-aid and handed it to Xu Zhisui, "Put this on quickly, be careful not to get it infected."
Stared at by several eyes at the same time, Xu Zhisui's cheeks flushed slightly. She quickly waved to the three of them, "Don't all crowd around me, we'll be too late to try on the dress!"
The three girls then separated, each carrying their dresses, and headed to the fitting room.
They ultimately chose champagne-colored dresses. Wei Manman picked a one-shoulder tie-up style, Yang Shi chose a double-shoulder thin-strapped style, and Su Cheng preferred a sleeveless halter-neck style.
The shop assistant fastened the buttons behind Su Cheng and smoothed the fabric at her waist. "It's a little loose here, let me adjust the size for you. Is there anything else that needs adjusting?"
Su Cheng turned her body in front of the mirror, and the special woven fabric immediately shimmered with a golden luster like morning mist. The halter neck design not only perfectly showcased her right-angled shoulder line, but also ensured that the neckline would not slip down.
She gently shook her head, indicating that she was satisfied.
The shop assistants have served many celebrity clients, and the appearance and figure of the person in front of them are in no way inferior to theirs.
She helped Su Cheng gather her loose hair behind her back, revealing her smooth and beautiful collarbone. She sincerely praised, "Your collarbone is so beautiful. When you come to choose a wedding dress in the future, you must try an off-the-shoulder or strapless style, which can perfectly show your unique charm."
Just as Su Cheng was about to ask if she could try on wedding dresses if she wasn't getting married, she suddenly heard Xu Zhisui calling anxiously from outside the fitting room, "Su Su, your phone is ringing!"
"Who is it?" she asked instinctively.
Xu Zhisui hesitated for a moment, her voice tinged with disbelief, "It seems to be, Eason Chan?"
Su Cheng's mind went blank for a moment; she didn't seem to have this person in her friend list.
The next second, her eyes changed slightly, and the English name Eason suddenly entered her thoughts.
She hurriedly apologized to the shop assistant, stumbled out of the fitting room in her high heels, and almost pounced on Xu Zhisui, grabbing the phone with its screen lit up.
Su Cheng took a deep breath and, feigning composure, pressed the answer button. "Hello, what's up?"
"We're sold out of silver carp heads today. How about we have corn and pork rib soup instead?" Jiang Muzhou asked gently from the other end of the phone, his voice warm and friendly, as if he were smiling.
A slight ripple stirred in Su Cheng's heart.
She had heard similar conversations many times before, but those were usually between her father and mother.
"Anything is fine, whatever you say." She unconsciously smiled, but when she looked up and met Xu Zhisui's probing gaze, she hurriedly suppressed her smile.
"Look, look! How about this one?" Wei Manman ran out of the fitting room, her skirt billowing in a beautiful arc with her movements.
Xu Zhisui temporarily put aside her gossipy thoughts and gave Wei Manman two thumbs up, "Absolutely amazing! This dress is practically made for you!"
There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone, then a man's voice, tinged with a slight static, came through, sounding somewhat desolate in the bustling fitting room, "Outside?"
"Yes, I'm trying on dresses with Zhizhi."
For some reason, Su Cheng felt a little guilty, as if she were being checked up on. She twirled the beaded chain on her dress with her fingertips and added, "Don't worry, I already fed Yuanbao before I left."
Upon hearing this, Xu Zhisui's eyes lit up.
Yuanbao, isn't that Jiang Muzhou's big orange cat?
Seeing that Su Cheng was on the phone, Wei Manman wisely refrained from disturbing her and turned to look at Yang Shi, who had changed into her formal attire.
Send me your address, I'll pick you up on my way.
Su Cheng paused. He didn't even know where she was, so what kind of route was he going to take?
"No need to trouble yourself, I can do it myself..."
"Oh my, Su Su!" Xu Zhisui raised her voice, exclaiming in an exaggerated tone, "It's so hard to get a taxi at this hour!"
Su Cheng's eyes twitched, and she hurriedly reached out to cover Xu Zhisui's mouth.
Freed from the constraints of high heels, Xu Zhisui nimbly dodged aside. She cleared her throat and called out in a drawn-out, clear voice, "No. 38, Zhongxing Street."
A soft laugh came from the other end of the line, tinged with understanding and indulgence. "I'll be there in about fifteen minutes. Just follow your pace. I'll wait for you."
With things having come to this, Su Cheng could only softly reply "okay" and hurriedly hang up the phone.
Yang Shi and Wei Manman, who were standing in front of the three-sided mirror, heard the noise and curiously leaned over to ask what was going on.
Xu Zhisui proudly raised her chin at Su Cheng, revealing a mischievous smile, "Su Su's ride is almost here."
-
It was a rare occasion for everyone to get together after graduation, and Wei Manman excitedly pulled everyone to take photos to commemorate the occasion.
By the time Su Cheng got into the passenger seat, Jiang Muzhou had already been there for a while.
"Sorry to trouble you to make this trip so soon after you got back." Su Cheng pulled on her seatbelt and fastened it, but her eyes secretly glanced at the person in the driver's seat.
He seemed to be in good spirits, which lessened Su Cheng's sense of guilt somewhat.
“No trouble at all, it’s on my way anyway.” Jiang Muzhou stepped on the gas and drove onto the main road. “But I need to go to the studio first to copy some materials.”
Su Cheng turned her head, unable to hide her curiosity, "This is the first time I've heard you mention the studio."
"I started this business with a friend a couple of years ago." Jiang Muzhou rested one hand on the steering wheel, casually raising the corner of his eye. "If you want to join, I'll definitely get you the best treatment."
Su Cheng's pupils dilated slightly.
No wonder Jiang Muzhou didn't sign with Zhang Xiwen's company; it turns out he's the boss himself!
Suddenly remembering something, Su Cheng carefully asked, "By the way, we had a high school classmate named Wei Manman, do you remember her?"
Jiang Muzhou tapped his fingers on the steering wheel and shook his head. "I don't remember her. Was she also Xu Zhisui's bridesmaid?"
“Yes.” Her nails dug into her palms, and Su Cheng’s gaze gradually dimmed. “She knows we’ve been collaborating on a video project recently, so she asked me to ask if you’re willing to take on commercial collaborations?”
Jiang Muzhou lifted his eyelids and saw that Su Cheng was pursing her lips, looking somewhat unnatural.
As for Wei Manman and Wei Kuaikuai, four years have passed, and he had long forgotten about them, having had little contact with them.
Thinking that she was also doing this for someone else, Jiang Muzhou was about to give her face when the girl next to him suddenly sighed.
"It's a shame that she even had a crush on you in high school, and you can't even remember her name."
