Chapter 22 Mo Garden
Facing Luo Jiaxing's questioning, Zhong Min immediately realized that her subconscious avoidance of Xiao Mingzheng seemed a bit too obvious. This was a perfect reminder for her to be a little more careful in this regard. No matter what happened, it was important not to show too much concern, otherwise it would not be good for others or yourself.
Seeing Luo Jiaxing's serious expression, even stopping to discuss this matter, Zhong Min knew there was no room for negotiation. Since that was the case, it wouldn't be a good idea to waste any more energy on it and only cause further concern. It would be better to accept it calmly and find out more about it first, so that she could have a better idea of her situation.
Thinking of this, Zhong Min had no choice but to say, "General, you misunderstood. I didn't mean any harm. I was just afraid that I might make a mistake due to my clumsy hands. So I thought it would be better to find something else to do. Since it is the prince's wish, I will obey your orders."
Although Zhong Min said she obeyed, and the resigned tone she had earlier was no longer there, Luo Jiaxing knew she wasn't so indifferent. But he didn't have the ability to intervene. Besides, if she truly had nothing wrong with her, then there was nothing to worry about.
He didn't think much about it, but just remembered that Zhong Min had said that he wanted to ask a few questions, so he continued, "If you have any other questions, ask them all at once. When we get to Moyuan, no one will be so free."
Zhong Min was very happy to see that although Luo Jiaxing's words were not very nice, he was actually helping her. She thought to herself that this man was indeed a good person and she had not misjudged him.
She wasted no time and said sincerely, "Thank you, General Luo. General Luo is such a kind man. Since I'm going to work there, I'd like to ask you about the prince's taboos. As the closest person to the prince, you're naturally more familiar with them. I thought that knowing a little bit first would help me avoid trouble in the future."
Zhong Min had never doubted her own judgment, whether it was judging people or things, whether from a professional perspective or from a woman's intuition, she had never been wrong. This time, her assessment of Luo Jiaxing was no different.
Luo Jiaxing is different from Xiao Mingzheng, not as crooked as him. He is also different from the carefree General Cheng, not as self-righteous. And most importantly, this person has a good heart and is not too arrogant subconsciously. He is more approachable and more compassionate than others.
It was because of seeing these that she dared to ask him, and Luo Jiaxing did not disappoint her. He kindly gave her some very useful suggestions.
First, Xiao Mingzheng prefers quietness, especially when he's busy. Don't interrupt him. Second, Xiao Mingzheng doesn't like to talk much, so you have to be extremely attentive when he's on duty, and it's best not to ask him to repeat himself. Third, do what you're supposed to do, and don't listen to, ask about, or do anything irrelevant.
In Luo Jiaxing's opinion, by doing the above, Zhong Min would be able to avoid any trouble. To be frank, Xiao Mingzheng wasn't a difficult person to serve; if he performed his duties diligently, there wouldn't be any major problems.
Zhong Min listened attentively. As long as there were no unnecessary obstacles, these points wouldn't be difficult to accomplish. However, if it were that easy, then this task would be quite simple. But the question was, was she really that lucky?
"Thank you!" After hearing this, she felt much better and subconsciously patted Luo Jiaxing on the shoulder: "General, you are such a good man!"
"What are you doing?" Luo Jiaxing frowned and looked at Zhong Min's hand patting his shoulder. It looked like Zhong Min was treating him like a brother, which was so natural that he couldn't help rolling his eyes.
After being scolded by Luo Jiaxing, Zhong Min realized that in his pride he had unconsciously brought out his former "manly" aura.
"Sorry, sorry." She quickly retracted her hand, shook it off with a dry laugh, and then quickly put it behind her back.
Damn, I've really gotten carried away! Zhong Min was secretly ashamed. In the past, due to work reasons, the colleagues around her were all men. In addition, her personality was a bit masculine, so she didn't think of herself as a woman. She was used to being on friendly terms with those guys and getting close to them. But when she got excited, her true nature was exposed.
"I've learned the rules for three days, and this is all you can do?" Luo Jiaxing scolded in a low voice, "If you act like this in front of the prince, watch out for your hand!"
"Yes, yes!" Zhong Min knew that he was in the wrong, so he didn't argue much. He just nodded continuously, looking like he was taking it seriously.
Seeing this, Luo Jiaxing shook his head secretly, but didn't say anything more. Instead, he led Zhong Min forward.
Soon, the two arrived at Mo Garden. Northwest China doesn't have much greenery in winter, but now the lush emerald green was a delight to behold. Zhong Min had always loved bamboo; as a child, he had a small patch in front of his home in the countryside, but it couldn't compare to the precious varieties before him.
Zhong Min habitually glanced around as he walked, only to see Luo Jiaxing stop by a hall in front of the small building and not move forward. At that moment, a fifty-year-old servant emerged from the second-floor building.
Upon seeing the newcomer, the old servant approached him unhurriedly, bowed slightly to Luo Jiaxing, and said, "General Luo, the prince asked me to tell you that an urgent report has just arrived from the army, ordering you to return to the barracks immediately. The prince will discuss other matters with you another day."
After hearing the old slave's words, Luo Jiaxing nodded immediately and said to the old slave, "Thank you, Uncle Li. Jiaxing will return to the barracks now. By the way..."
As he spoke, he pointed at Zhong Min and continued to say to Mr. Li, "Uncle Li, this is Zhong Min. The prince asked me to bring her over with him. She will be working exclusively at Mo Garden from now on."
"Don't worry, General. The prince has already given instructions. I will make proper arrangements in a while." Old Man Li glanced at Zhong Min as he spoke. Apart from that, he didn't say anything else.
Seeing that Luo Jiaxing was so polite to Mr. Li, Zhong Min immediately knew that although this man called himself a slave, his status in the palace must be quite high. So when she saw Mr. Li looking at her, she naturally smiled to show her friendliness.
When Mr. Li saw this, he did not have any special reaction, neither the indifference of ignoring nor any other friendly response.
Seeing this, Zhong Min felt that this old man Li was no ordinary person. This old servant was probably the kind of most prestigious servant often described in books, and his actual status was even much higher than that of many young masters. That was why even Luo Jiaxing was so polite to him.
Perhaps because he was in front of Mr. Li, after Luo Jiaxing finished his instructions, he said nothing more and turned around and left without even saying hello to Zhong Min, as if he was doing his job in a businesslike manner.
But Zhong Min naturally didn't care. Seeing Mr. Li nodded at her and motioned for him to follow him, she quickly responded and followed him.
She had no idea what Old Man Li was taking her to at this moment, but Zhong Min didn't say anything. She just followed him. She knew she'd find out soon enough, so there was no need to come across as a chatty person and cause unnecessary annoyance. The entire Mo Garden was strangely quiet. Aside from the guards she'd seen earlier at the edge of the bamboo forest, Old Man Li was the only person Zhong Min had seen there.
