Chapter 23 There are so many rules
The building wasn't too big, with two floors, each with what looked like four rooms, though the rooms varied in size, presumably for different purposes. The staircase was right in the middle, and the overall architectural style was quite simple, lacking any ornate decorations. However, it gave off a sense of simplicity, simplicity, and comfort.
Mr. Li took Zhong Min up to the second floor, walked to the left side of the building, and led her to the outermost room. Inside, they saw a number of large bookshelves, each layer completely filled with books. It looked like a storage room for rarely used books. However, the smell inside was not unpleasant, and the room was very neatly kept, obviously someone came in regularly to maintain the room and ventilate it.
Why did he bring her here? Zhong Min wondered, could it be that she was supposed to start work right away? But the place was so clean and tidy, and it didn't seem like there was any work to do.
"You will live in this room from now on. The bed has been set up for you in the back, and all the necessary things have been prepared. There are some very precious books in here. Please take good care of them and don't damage or lose them." Mr. Li said as he took Zhong Min to the back. When they reached the last bookshelf, they saw a small screen in front of it. They walked around and saw that there was indeed a simple small bed in the corner, as well as a small cabinet and a table and chairs. They were obviously added temporarily.
Hearing this, Zhong Min finally understood that they were going to take her to settle down first. The reason she was completely wrong was because she had never imagined that she would not have to live in a unified place in the palace with the other maids, but would be able to live alone in the small building in Moyuan.
"Thank you, Uncle Li." Zhong Min nodded, looking as if she understood. While the conditions weren't great, it was still a private room. Not having to squeeze in with other strangers was a good thing for her.
However, everything has its pros and cons. In this way, it would be relatively difficult for her to find excuses to go around other places in the palace to familiarize herself with the situation in the future.
Seeing that Zhong Min didn't seem dissatisfied, Old Man Li continued, "There's not much to do in the Mo Garden. From now on, I'll be responsible for the rough work inside and outside the Mo Garden, and you will be responsible for serving the prince in the study and obeying his orders."
After hearing what Mr. Li said, Zhong Min asked curiously: "Are you and I the only two people working in Mo Garden?" After all, it is such a big place. Although there are not too many things to do, the dignified Prince Mu's Mansion should not be so short of manpower, right?
"The prince's study has always been closed to outsiders, so I've always been the only one taking care of it. Many of the surrounding tasks are done by others, but I've always been the only one working in the garden."
Mr. Li didn't seem surprised by Zhong Min's reaction and continued to explain, "I'm old now, and my health is getting worse. Thanks to the prince's consideration, he has specially assigned an extra person to serve here. Just focus on your work. If you have any questions, just ask me. I live downstairs."
"Zhong Min understands. Thank you Uncle Li for your guidance." Zhong Min understood after hearing this. It turned out that Xiao Mingzheng was really a person who didn't like to be disturbed. If it were someone else, let alone someone of royal level, even if the family had a little money, such a large study would require at least ten servants to take care of it.
However, this made Zhong Min feel that something was wrong. There were very few people in such a place. Logically, the most trusted people should be arranged there, such as a senior old man like Uncle Li, or someone else, but it definitely should not be someone like her who had not been relieved of her vigilance at all.
Just as he was thinking, he heard Old Man Li speak again: "No one is allowed to enter the study in Mo Garden without the prince's permission. Therefore, whether it is the kitchen or other matters, they can be handled in the pavilion outside. Even if it is someone that the prince wants to meet, they must wait outside first and can only enter the small building after being informed."
Uncle Li briefly introduced some of the things here to Zhong Min. "The room in the middle of the first floor is where the prince meets guests. Generally, only extremely important and familiar people are allowed to enter. There is a tea room next to it, which is fully stocked with necessary items. Someone comes to deliver relevant supplies every day, but again, you can only communicate with people in the pavilion and do not let anyone enter the small building. The largest room in the middle of the second floor is the prince's private study. The prince usually handles official business there, and nothing inside is allowed to be touched without permission. There is also a bedroom to the right of the study, which is where the prince rests. The other rooms are just like the one you are living in now, all used to display various books. I organize and put them away every few days."
After saying this, Mr. Li added meaningfully, "In short, being able to work here is a blessing for you. Be smart in your future actions and don't let the prince down."
"Zhong Min understands, please rest assured, Uncle Li." Zhong Min felt a little dizzy after hearing this, but he nodded quickly, hoping that Uncle Li would quickly finish this series of boring introductions.
She felt more and more that this small building was not as simple as it seemed on the surface. The special sense of mystery was particularly strong. On the surface, Xiao Mingzheng did not allow outsiders to approach this place because of his personal temperament, but perhaps there was a more important reason?
Her sixth sense was always accurate. She knew this place wasn't a good place, so she'd better get as far away as possible. But now, she didn't show any sign of it, instead appearing to be listening attentively and doing her duty.
Seeing that Zhong Min understood everything, Uncle Li nodded and told her to clean up first. After that, he went to wait in the study. According to Xiao Mingzheng's usual habits, he would be here soon. After giving the instructions, Uncle Li went out to do his own thing.
Seeing this, Zhong Min put down the bag in her hand. There was nothing to pack. She just took a quick look around the place where she lived and checked the daily necessities to see if anything was missing.
Soon, she had nothing to do. After thinking about it, she decided to go to the study room as Mr. Li had instructed her to do.
The study was just one room away from where she lived now. When she walked to the door, she saw some bright candlelight inside. Seeing this, Zhong Min paused for a moment, then raised her hand and gently knocked on the door.
"Come in!"
A familiar voice came from inside, and Zhong Min soon recognized it as Mr. Li's voice. After breathing a sigh of relief, he pushed the door and walked in.
