Chapter Thirty-Six: System

The wedding procession set off as usual the following day.

Ji Fengyao, dressed in a soft, pale yellow silk outer skirt, sat in the gently swaying carriage, her gaze wistful.

Last night was a night I couldn't bear to recall.

At least in front of this damned prince, from now on, face and her will be completely strangers, never to be seen again.

Looking back on their acquaintance and relationship, it was a massive, back-and-forth battle of wits, a truly evenly matched contest. One side was embarrassed, the other lost face, and even fate seemed to be helping them maintain balance, ensuring neither side suffered a defeat.

Could this be the legendary bickering couple?

"Pah! Who wants to be with him..."

Lost in thought, Ji Fengyao accidentally spat out a sound, but thankfully realized her mistake in time and covered her mouth. She glanced at the person opposite her; he held a scroll in his hand, his demeanor as refined as jade. Although he possessed no trace of murderous aura, he was still aloof and unapproachable.

However, he seemed so engrossed in his book that he didn't notice her slight embarrassment.

Before seeing his true face, she only thought his lips and eyes were beautiful. After seeing them, however, the small mask could no longer hide his stunning and familiar face.

Ji Fengyao's fingernails, which were pressed against her lips, unconsciously got stuck between her teeth and she nibbled at them gently, her gaze lingering on Shang Xiye's golden mask and forgetting to look away.

Although things can be similar and people can be alike, and the world is full of wonders, why is it that he has his master's face?

Just as she was lost in thought, the man suddenly parted his thin lips and spoke in a clear, pleasant voice: "I know I am dashing and charming, but my princess should restrain herself. It would be better if you stared at me with lustful thoughts in broad daylight, lest you lose your composure and become a laughingstock."

Ji Fengyao snapped out of her daze, her face darkening with anger: "Holy crap...!"

"We'll be able to go to the capital in about half a month. Once we get back to the manor..." Shang Xiye's lips curled into a dangerous smile.

Ji Fengyao swallowed back all the words behind the word "grass" in an instant. She forced down her anger with her swollen lips and forced out a fake infatuated smile: "Hehe, Your Highness is really too handsome. The day I saw you, I was captivated and have been unable to control myself. That's why I have often lost my composure and forgotten myself. Please forgive me, Your Highness."

"No wonder the princess was so passionate last night, clinging to me and refusing to let go. I thought she was really frightened, but it seems I was overthinking it." Shang Xiye picked up his book again, a slight smile playing on his lips, his expression calm and collected.

Ji Fengyao maintained her stiff smile, saying "Go to hell," while inwardly a thousand curses raged.

That wretched pig's trotter.

They really take advantage of wearing a mask to be exceptionally shameless!

If it weren't for her psychological trauma related to striped, scaly creatures, and if he didn't have her master's face, she would never want to hug him!

The news of the Ninth Prince marrying a bandit had been circulating in the capital for nearly two months and was now common knowledge.

On the day the Ninth Prince entered the capital, the city was deserted and bustling with activity, attracting more people than any previous triumphant return of the Ninth Prince.

Many people were carrying vegetable baskets or crates. Some covered them with good vegetable leaves or rags, while others simply left them uncovered, revealing rotten eggs and rotten vegetable leaves inside.

From a great distance, Ji Fengyao could hear people shouting loudly at the city gate:

"Shameless bandits, you are unworthy of our Great Zhao Kingdom's God of War! Go back to your bandit den!"

"Yes! Go back!"

"Don't tarnish our war god, you despicable scoundrels!"

"Ninth Prince, divorce this shrew! We, the people, support you!"
