Lin Xihe still picked a few wild fruits, saying she would take them home to examine them carefully in case she accidentally ate them later.
Ye Yunfan escorted Lin Xihe to her doorstep before taking his leave. As he departed, a pang of reluctance stirred within him.
Lin Xihe returned home to a deathly silence.
Ji Zhuo lay quietly on the pile of straw, not taking the opportunity to climb into bed today.
If Lin Xihe hadn't known that he had deliberately teased her last time, she would have actually felt sorry for him looking like this.
Lin Xihe pretended nothing was wrong, washed the few red berries she had picked from outside with water, and then walked to Ji Zhuo's side.
"Why did you only eat one egg?" Lin Xihe asked softly.
Ji Zhuo slowly opened his eyes and asked, "Where did you go?"
"What? Are you starving? And now you're telling me what to do? I just went up the mountain to pick some wild fruit." Lin Xihe replied.
"With that doctor?" A strange look flashed in Ji Zhuo's eyes.
"Yes, we just happened to run into each other on the way," Lin Xihe said with some dissatisfaction.
“Nobody wants to meddle in your business, but you promised to take care of me before you sold the gems. Now you’ve left me at home for most of the day. How can I expect you to give me a large sum of money in the future if you’re so irresponsible?” Ji Zhuo said as he sat up, staring intently at Lin Xihe.
“I’ll let you know before I go out next time. I just found some wild fruit on the mountain. I noticed you don’t have much of an appetite, so have some.” After saying that, Lin Xihe smiled sweetly and opened her palm, revealing a few red berries.
Lin Xihe observed Ji Zhuo's expression intently. She knew that if Ji Zhuo truly had amnesia, there were two possibilities: either he didn't recognize the fruit and would eat it, or he recognized it but wouldn't show any remorse. If Ji Zhuo was faking amnesia, then he would definitely recognize the fruit and wouldn't eat it.
However, Ji Zhuo looked at the fruit without any reaction, and Lin Xihe could not find any unusual emotional fluctuations on his face.
Under Lin Xihe's gaze, Ji Zhuo slowly said, "My other hand hurts today too, I can't lift it up, you feed me."
"Huh?" Lin Xihe was somewhat surprised.
"Look at this weather! You made me sleep on the ground, which is wet and cold. I already have injuries all over my body, and now, I can't move either of my arms." Ji Zhuo said, his tone revealing a hint of pitifulness that made people feel sorry for him.
Lin Xihe looked incredulous, but in the end she thought: Fine, I'll feed you then, I don't believe you'd actually dare to eat it.
With her long, slender fingers, she gently picked up a fruit and brought it to Ji Zhuo's lips.
But just as the fruit was about to touch Ji Zhuo's lips, it stopped abruptly.
Lin Xihe was filled with conflicting emotions.
What if this rascal really eats the fruit?
Her gaze lingered on Ji Zhuo. He was seriously injured. If he were to eat this poisonous fruit, would it worsen his condition?
Just as Lin Xihe hesitated, Ji Zhuo's gaze suddenly changed, sweeping towards her with an aggressive intensity. He stared intently at Lin Xihe, his previous pitiful demeanor completely vanished.
He slightly opened his mouth and looked towards the fruit in Lin Xihe's hand.
However, in that unintentional leaning closer, his lips first lightly touched Lin Xihe's fingertips, which were as smooth as mutton fat jade.
At that moment, time seemed to freeze, with only their breaths mingling in the air. When his lips touched her hand, his gaze became even more intense and forceful, as if he wanted to devour Lin Xihe whole.
When Lin Xihe subconsciously tried to pull her hand back, Ji Zhuo bit the red jujube into his mouth, and then swallowed it with a thud.
Lin Xihe panicked immediately, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes. She had only wanted to test him out, how did it turn out like this?
"It's delicious that you fed it to me." Ji Zhuo's lips curled up slightly, forming a charming arc, and his voice was deep and magnetic.
"You ate it? How did you manage to eat it?"
Was Ji Zhuo pretending to eat it? But his eyes and his actions didn't seem fake.
Looking at Lin Xihe's flustered appearance, Ji Zhuo felt a strange emotion welling up inside him. He didn't understand why he was acting so impulsively; it was just that the moment he saw her, his body seemed to be out of control, wanting only to get closer to her, and closer still.
"What? You're reluctant to give me any?"
"No, I just saw a bug on it, spit it out quickly."
Lin Xihe panicked and frantically tried to pry open Ji Zhuo's mouth, but her outstretched hand froze in mid-air.
This... this behavior is too strange, isn't it?
After hesitating for a long time, she withdrew her outstretched hand, her eyes darting around in a flustered manner, not daring to look Ji Zhuo in the eye.
"It's alright, feed me another one." Ji Zhuo's eyes became as deep as a still pool, his gaze fixed on Lin Xihe's face as if it were a physical object, never wavering for a moment.
"Want some more?"
Lin Xihe's eyes widened, her face filled with disbelief.
She wondered to herself, could this guy really have lost his memory because of the fall she made?
Ji Zhuo seemed oblivious to Lin Xihe's unusual behavior, and leaned forward again, slightly opening his mouth, waiting for Lin Xihe to feed him.
Upon seeing this, Lin Xihe immediately threw the red jujube in her hand onto the ground.
"Oh dear, there are so many bugs on this." Her voice trembled slightly, her eyes darting around, and she didn't dare to look at Ji Zhuo's reaction.
The remaining few fruits rolled away on the ground into the distance.
"That's a pity. Go pick some more tomorrow. I like the taste." Ji Zhuo's tone carried a hint of regret, but his eyes remained fixed on Lin Xihe.
"It's gone from the mountain..."
As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Xihe saw Ji Zhuo's brows furrowed, and a look of pain quickly spread across his face.
"What's wrong?" Lin Xihe's heart clenched.
"Abdominal pain..." Ji Zhuo endured the excruciating pain, trying his best to make his voice sound calm, but the slight trembling tone still betrayed the pain he was enduring.
However, before he could finish speaking, large beads of sweat appeared on Ji Zhuo's forehead, and they slid down his cheeks.
