Chapter 11 Using Oneself to Gain Sympathy

"You poisoned me?"

Ji Zhuo endured the pain and squeezed out these words through gritted teeth, his eyes filled with disbelief. As he spoke, the pain on his face intensified, as if Lin Xihe had betrayed him.

"How could I? I didn't..." Lin Xihe was caught off guard by the sudden question, her voice tinged with guilt.

At this moment, Ji Zhuo's face gradually became distorted with pain, and he curled up on the pile of straw.

Lin Xihe knew that eating the Red Cang Fruit would cause abdominal pain, but she never expected it to hurt this badly.

He didn’t seem to be in so much pain when I treated his wound yesterday. Could it be that the abdominal pain is more unbearable than the horrifying wound?

"Why is this happening?" Lin Xihe murmured to herself.

Could I have really messed things up and killed this man?

What to do...

Seeing that Ji Zhuo's forehead was covered in more and more sweat, Lin Xihe quickly comforted him, "Doctor Ye hasn't gone far yet. Wait for me, I'll go and bring him back."

As she spoke, she tried to stand up.

But just then, Ji Zhuo suddenly reached out and grabbed Lin Xihe.

"Don't go. Stay here with me." His tone was full of restraint, but his grip was strong, holding Lin Xihe tightly so that she couldn't get up.

"No, if you die here, I won't dare to live in this house anymore!" Lin Xihe's eyes reddened with anxiety, and her voice was trembling with tears.

It turns out they were afraid to live in the house because someone had died inside...

"Heh, I won't die. You stay here and don't leave." After saying that, Ji Zhuo leaned weakly against Lin Xihe as if he had lost his support.

Unable to get up, Lin Xihe watched Ji Zhuo in such pain with burning anxiety. She picked up a handkerchief and gently wiped Ji Zhuo's sweat. She could clearly feel Ji Zhuo trembling uncontrollably from the pain.

Half an hour passed before Ji Zhuo's pain gradually subsided, and the profuse cold sweat finally stopped pouring out.

Lin Xihe's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally relaxed a little. At that moment, she finally believed completely that Ji Zhuo had truly lost his memory.

"Does it still hurt?"

"pain."

"You must have had an allergic reaction to this fruit. I'm fine after eating it..." Lin Xihe felt guilty, but she couldn't very well confess at this moment.

Upon hearing Lin Xihe's words, Ji Zhuo did not respond.

He did not suffer from amnesia, and he was aware that the pain he experienced after eating the red berries was several times more intense than that of ordinary people. As a child, he had accidentally eaten red berries, and the excruciating pain he felt was still etched in his memory. It was precisely because of this that he was extremely sensitive to the taste of red berries.

He fainted on the mountain that day and smelled that familiar scent again. In order to be rescued, he orchestrated the subsequent "poisoning" incident.

"Even so, you picked this fruit, and I'm in so much pain, so you have to take responsibility."

Ji Zhuo remained leaning on Lin Xihe's shoulder, showing no intention of moving.

"How else can I take responsibility? Aren't I already taking care of you? I'm just taking your money, not selling myself to you."

"Your so-called way of taking care of me is to leave me alone at home for most of the day while you go off to meet with other men?" Ji Zhuo raised his head, his eyes filled with dissatisfaction and questioning.

“We weren’t having a secret rendezvous. He went to gather herbs, and I went to gather fruit. But if you were taking the ox with you to the fields, I would say you were having a secret rendezvous with the ox.”

"Nonsense! Why would you go up the mountain to pick wild fruit for no reason?"

“Sell it for money, but I don’t have any land to farm, I can’t just sit around and eat my savings away.”

“If you run out of money, I will give you gems. As long as I am here, why would you need to pick fruit to exchange for money?” Ji Zhuo’s tone was domineering and unquestionable.

"Then I have to save money, right? There will be times when you're not here with me. How will I live in the future?"

"You just need to take good care of me, and I will take full responsibility for your life from now on."

"Screw you. You're in such a sorry state yourself, and you still say you'll take responsibility for me? I'd rather go cook. Arguing with you like this is a complete waste of time and energy." Lin Xihe rolled her eyes at Ji Zhuo and turned to walk towards the kitchen.

Lin Xihe simply reheated the leftovers from last night and cooked a new soup, thus completing today's dinner.

Today, Ji Zhuo no longer fought with Lin Xihe for a seat. Instead, he patiently waited until Lin Xihe finished her meal before taking his own seat.

After finishing her meal, with no electronic devices to entertain herself, Lin Xihe lay on the bed, staring at the pitch-black room, feeling restless and unable to fall asleep.

She had only been here a short time, and before that, she had only thought about how to fill her stomach, having no time to consider future plans. Now that she was no longer troubled by hunger, she felt increasingly lost and helpless.

In the quiet room, Ji Zhuo's questioning voice suddenly came from the floor.

"May I have your name?"

"Why aren't you asleep yet?" Lin Xihe asked, somewhat surprised.

"You keep tossing and turning in bed, making noise all the time. How am I supposed to sleep?"

"Make do with this, it's not your home." Lin Xihe replied irritably.

Ji Zhuo was silent for a moment, then asked again, "Your name."

After all, the two had spent several days together, and they couldn't keep referring to each other as "you."

"Lin Xihe".

Lin Xihe? Ji Zhuo felt a vague sense of familiarity with this name.

At this moment, Lin Xihe on the bed started rambling again: "Since you are now considered a servant in my household, you can call me 'Master,' 'Miss,' or 'Young Lady.'"

After hearing this, Ji Zhuo did not respond further.

Lin Xihe also stopped tossing and turning, but they both knew that they were still awake, their thoughts quietly spreading in the quiet night.

Another half hour passed, and Lin Xihe turned slightly to the side, her gaze piercing through the darkness to Ji Zhuo on the ground, and asked softly, "Have you really lost your memory?"

"What? How many times do I need to confirm?"

"I was just asking. What do you plan to do if you can't remember anything later?" Lin Xihe propped herself up, resting her elbows on the bed, and continued to press for an answer.

"Can't you pick wild fruits? Pick wild fruits to support me." There was a hint of teasing in Ji Zhuo's tone.

"That's not what you said before. Also, I hate pretty boys the most. Don't even think about taking advantage of me."

"So what are your plans for the future?" Ji Zhuo changed the subject, throwing the question back to Lin Xihe.

"I don't know, I was just thinking about it. What did you think of the doctor today?" Lin Xihe lay back down on the bed, staring at the ceiling, and asked thoughtfully.

However, after a long while, the room remained silent.

Lin Xihe eventually fell into a deep sleep amidst her swirling thoughts, without ever receiving Ji Zhuo's opinion.
