"Thank you for watching over Tangbao for me. It's 9 AM now, let's go back first..." Lin Xihe said gratefully, her eyes glistening with tears. She was truly thankful for their meticulous care of Tangbao over the years.
"There's no need for thanks, young lady. Go back and rest for a while. Wusheng will be there watching over you."
Ling Xue stretched out her hand and pointed to the carriage not far away.
Since the two were kicked out, Mo Wusheng has been guarding this place every day, rain or shine. Today, he only rushed back to tell Ling Shuang after learning that Lin Xihe had returned, and left for a short while.
"Thank you, Mo Wusheng." Lin Xihe turned her head and looked at Mo Wusheng gratefully.
"I've already received the money. You're welcome."
Mo Wusheng spoke in a seemingly indifferent manner, but his gaze unconsciously drifted towards Ling Shuang.
Lin Xihe saw all of this and secretly thought that she would take advantage of this trip back to find a suitable opportunity to help them get together.
Lin Xihe returned to the Lin residence with Ling Shuang and Ling Xue. Everything in the Lin residence was as before, and the flowers and plants in the courtyard were still lush.
Along the way, Ling Shuang enthusiastically told Lin Xihe about all the little things that had happened to Tang Bao over the past few months.
Ji Zhuo was very fond of Tang Bao; whenever he was at the manor, he would come and take care of her. Ji Zhuo's mother was initially unwilling, always wearing a stern face and looking disdainful. Later...
As time went on, Ji Zhuo would often bring Tang Bao to his mother and plead with her. Gradually, Ji Zhuo's mother stopped having a stern face and would occasionally hug Tang Bao.
Lin Xihe listened quietly, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
Ling Shuang asked Lin Xihe about her trip to Nanzhao, but Lin Xihe just smiled faintly and shook her head, refusing to say anything.
On this day, Lin Xihe felt that time was passing incredibly long, and every minute and every second was agonizing.
Before dusk, the three of them, master and servants, hurriedly went out and waited outside the Ji residence.
They waited from the hour of You (5-7 PM) until the hour of Xu (7-9 PM), and then from the hour of Xu until the hour of Hai (9-11 PM), but Ji Zhuo still hadn't returned.
Finally, after a long wait, she saw that familiar figure.
Ji Zhuo rode slowly towards the gate, the moonlight shining on him and outlining his tall and straight figure. When he arrived at the gate, he dismounted with ease.
Lin Xihe immediately got off the carriage and ran quickly behind Ji Zhuo, urgently calling out to him, "A-Zhuo."
Upon hearing the sound, Ji Zhuo slowly turned around.
Under the dim light of the gate, his tall figure was elongated. Dressed in a long robe, he stood upright, still as handsome as ever, but his eyes revealed a strange detachment.
Ji Zhuo's gaze lingered on Lin Xihe for a brief moment, as if it were just a casual glance, before he spoke indifferently, "Miss Lin, is there something you need?"
Miss Lin?
Is something the matter?
The cold address and tone were like a sharp blade, piercing straight into Lin Xihe's heart. She stood there, stunned, staring blankly at Ji Zhuo, as if she didn't recognize the person in front of her.
She quickly came to her senses, her lips trembling slightly, and called out again, "A-Zhuo..."
"Miss Lin, please don't call me that. Are we that familiar?" Ji Zhuo's voice was devoid of warmth, his tone cold.
Upon hearing this, Lin Xihe felt flustered and at a loss, but she still mustered her courage and took a few steps forward.
Ji Zhuo stood on the steps, looking down at Lin Xihe with a calm and unwavering gaze, as if those warm memories between them had never existed.
Lin Xihe understood that Ji Zhuo's sudden change in attitude was because of her relationship with Mu Ruoyan.
He must have been utterly disappointed to be so indifferent.
She opened her mouth, wanting to explain, but found herself unable to say anything. After all, she couldn't defend herself against what had happened between her and Mu Ruoyan. Those experiences were like an insurmountable chasm, standing between her and Ji Zhuo.
Ji Zhuo's decision to distance himself from her was entirely her own doing.
Lin Xihe suppressed the distress in her heart, tried her best to remain calm, and took a deep breath before saying, "Lord Ji, I've come to pick up Tang Bao."
“Miss Lin, you’ve come to the wrong place. My daughter’s name is Tang Bao, but she has nothing to do with you.”
Ji Zhuo's words were resolute and left no room for negotiation. After speaking, he turned around and prepared to enter the mansion.
