"Fine, call me whatever you want."
"How do we pry off these gems? Pry off a few! I'll take them to town to exchange for money later." Lin Xihe said as she handed the sword sheath to Ji Zhuo, then turned and walked to the door, took the sickle she usually used for work, and handed it to Ji Zhuo as well.
"It's not impossible for me to take the gems, but I don't need brain repair. Since I woke up in your house, we're definitely not strangers. After you sell them, you can't kick me out; you have to take good care of my food and clothing. Is that alright?"
"What? You're not leaving and I have to serve you?"
“Yes.” Ji Zhuo parted his thin lips slightly and uttered a single word. In this humble abode, even in his current disheveled state, he was determined to seize the initiative.
"Then stop being so stingy. Take your sword and get out of here." Lin Xixi pointed to the door, showing no mercy, trying to force Ji Zhuo to give in and get rid of this "hot potato" with a tough attitude.
"With my injuries, I can't leave right now." Ji Zhuo's expression remained unchanged, his tone calm, but his gaze held a hint of amusement, as if he were enjoying Lin Xihe's exasperation. Watching her like an ant on a hot pan while he remained calm and collected, he secretly thought that this woman was still too inexperienced and easily provoked.
"Then climb out."
“If you can’t climb, then carry me out.” Ji Zhuo’s lips curled up slightly, forming an almost mocking arc. He knew Lin Xihe’s reaction perfectly. He was certain that as a woman, she would hide this “trouble” at home and would not dare to make a big fuss about it, so she was acting like this.
"Hey, trying to be a scoundrel, huh?"
"I even suspect that you're the one who caused this injury. Now you're so heartless and want to kick me out. Who's the scoundrel here?" Ji Zhuo was determined to stay here to recover from his injury, and his words were utterly shameless.
"Fine. Actually, you're one of my servants. You got beaten up because of your sharp tongue, which is why you're all injured. And your real name is 'Ah Jian.' If you can remember, you can still be my servant, and I'll take care of you while you recover. But that's on the condition that the gems can be sold for money." Seeing how shameless the man was, Lin Xihe realized she couldn't just kick him out now, so she resorted to provocation.
"Well, thank you so much, Miss, for taking care of me. I knew this dilapidated house was familiar; it turns out it's my home!"
Lin Xihe stood there, stunned. How could this man be like this...?
But I've already said what I wanted to say, so fine, I'll take care of him then. Anyway, all I have to do is look at his face and abs, I'll just treat it like I'm watching suggestive videos all day.
"Alright, alright, you chose to stay. Now that you've stayed, you're one of us. Hurry up and put on the gemstone, I'll go find something to eat." With that, she carefully tucked the jade pendant into her pocket before walking out with peace of mind.
Right now, all we have at home are some wild vegetables and some coarse rice.
Lin Xihe went to the simple stove and started a fire to cook. She skillfully arranged the firewood, and soon flames were burning in the stove.
Ji Zhuo held the sickle and tried to pry the gem on the scabbard, but after trying for a long time, the gem remained firmly embedded in the scabbard.
Having no other choice, Ji Zhuo gritted his teeth and struggled to sit up from the pile of hay, reaching for his sword and using it to pry open the gem on the scabbard.
Looking at the desolate state of the house, he knew that if he didn't sell some things for money, he would probably starve to death there.
After some effort, they finally managed to pry off several gems of varying sizes.
Meanwhile, Lin Xihe had already prepared the wild vegetable porridge. She found two broken bowls and ladled two bowls of porridge over.
The porridge looked rather bland, with little rice and lots of wild vegetables.
Lin Xihe looked at the few gems she had managed to get off the ground and a look of joy spread across her face. Even Ah Jian seemed more pleasing to the eye now.
"Time to eat, Ah Jian."
As Lin Xihe spoke, she placed a bowl on the ground in front of the pile of grass where Ji Zhuo was lying.
He sat sideways on the only uneven stool in the room, picked up the bowl, and began to drink the porridge in large gulps.
She drank for a while, then turned her head by chance and found that the bowl of porridge placed next to the haystack had not been touched at all.
"What's wrong? Aren't you hungry?" Lin Xihe asked, puzzled.
"Is this food for humans?" Ji Zhuo frowned, looking disgusted. He was starving, but looking at the few grains of rice mixed with wild vegetables in the bowl, he simply couldn't swallow it.
"Brother, it's good enough that there's food at all. I'm the local 'hunger king,' so you've come to the wrong person. But if you don't want to, then leave," Lin Xihe said irritably, thinking to herself that this guy was quite picky and always complaining about this and that.
"Take the gems on the ground and sell them at different pawnshops. Buy some food and clothes when you come back." After Ji Zhuo finished speaking, he closed his eyes again, as if he would vomit if he looked at the porridge even once more.
After taking a few gems from the ground, Lin Xihe picked up her thin blanket from the bed and threw it on the man.
"Eat quickly, or you'll die in my house."
Lin Xihe borrowed a cart from Aunt Li, who lived closest to her, saying she needed to go to town to sell firewood. Aunt Li didn't need a cart that day, so she readily lent it to her.
Before leaving the house, Lin Xihe smeared some soot from the bottom of a pot evenly on her face.
Being too good-looking can also bring trouble, so one has to disguise oneself when going out.
She took the few gems and went to many pawnshops on the street, comparing prices before finally selling them.
Sure enough, gemstones are quite valuable. The smallest gemstone I just sold fetched a high price of thirty taels.
