"Change your ways and start anew." Lin Xihe reacted quickly and immediately changed her words.
"Alright, then I'll grant your wish." Gu Qinghuai said, then slowly lay back down, looking like he was about to drive someone crazy.
Lin Xihe was so angry that she stood up abruptly, slammed the medicine bowl down on the table with a loud bang.
"Someone come here!"
Upon hearing Lin Xihe's voice, the guards hurriedly came in.
Lin Xihe frowned and asked, "Where is the room you prepared for me?"
The guard hurriedly replied, "Miss Lin, there are no other rooms available for General Gu to stay in this courtyard. The people from the palace specifically instructed that you take care of the general personally."
After saying that, she further explained, "After you left, our general has been unconscious until now. Please take good care of him, considering his injuries."
After saying that, the guard clasped his hands in a fist salute, bent his knees, and knelt on the ground.
Seeing this, Lin Xihe took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and asked again, "Then where will I sleep?"
"A small couch has been prepared for the young lady and will be delivered shortly," the guard hurriedly replied.
"Alright, alright, hurry up and bring it over." Lin Xihe waved her hand impatiently, signaling the guards to leave.
After that, she ignored Gu Qinghuai and waited for the servants to bring in the low couch. She quickly spread out the bedding herself, lay down, and prepared to sleep.
Whether out of spite or for some other reason, Gu Qinghuai remained silent throughout, lying there quietly.
Lin Xihe had already taken a nap after returning home in the afternoon, and now, lying in bed, she tossed and turned, finding it difficult to fall asleep.
She secretly thought to herself, if Ji Zhuo knew about her current situation, he would probably be furious.
But with His Majesty's orders in place, she dared not disobey. The only thing she could do now was to try her best to restrain the original owner's feelings for Gu Qinghuai and prevent them from spreading unchecked.
She didn't know how much time had passed, but just as Lin Xihe was starting to feel sleepy, there was a soft knock on the door: "General, urgent report."
Hearing the noise, Gu Qinghuai struggled to get out of bed. His steps were unsteady and his body was still very weak. But the first thing he did was to move the screen to one end of Lin Xihe's couch, blocking the view of Lin Xihe from the outside before opening the door.
Through the screen, Lin Xihe could vaguely see that the person who came was dressed in black, and that person handed a letter to Gu Qinghuai.
"General, the incident happened suddenly. Deputy General Song has already gone to handle it," the man in black said in a low voice.
"Okay, let's wait outside."
After Gu Qinghuai finished speaking, he walked to the table, began to grind ink, picked up a brush and wrote a letter, which he handed to the man in black.
The room quickly returned to silence. Gu Qinghuai slowly walked to Lin Xihe's side, reached out to tuck the blanket around her, and then lay back down on the bed.
But before things could quiet down for long, another soft knock sounded at the door.
Gu Qinghuai had no choice but to force himself to get up again despite his illness and go to issue the orders.
Lin Xihe was awakened by the noise just as she fell asleep. Gu Qinghuai would cough softly from time to time, and the cough was obviously deliberately suppressed.
"Why are people looking for you in the middle of the night?" Lin Xihe couldn't help but ask, craning her neck.
"There are always things going on in the military that they're unsure about. They'll come to me whenever they can get here. I apologize for disturbing your rest," Gu Qinghuai explained softly.
"If you keep doing this, you won't be able to sleep well or rest properly. How will your body recover?" Lin Xihe said irritably.
"Tomorrow, I'll pack up and move to the study so I won't bother you," Gu Qinghuai said, then slowly lay back down on the bed.
Lin Xihe could tell that although Gu Qinghuai's words contained concern, his tone also revealed displeasure, probably because she had really neglected him, which made him feel resentful.
However, if she were to take care of him personally, their relationship would inevitably become more complicated, a tangled mess that would be impossible to unravel.
"Fine, if I have to blame myself for being heartless, then so be it," Lin Xihe thought helplessly.
